For the discussion of all the manga SC works on, following the Xmas release.

Yakitate continues to be awesome, best manga on the net, imo. Bread manga has no right to be this good.

The MaR download's taking too long, so I'll get back on that at some point.

Don't really read the other series that were released.

So anyway, discuss!

Personally, I cannot wait till they find out that Pierrot really is floating, and is not using wire work right now. :D

I'm also pondering the Goman Maetel phrase, I think I'm missing something....

I thought that was pretty obvious.

Goman Maetel = Gopan Bagel

And yeah, Pierrot is so floating. A world class clown has to be able to float in front of thousands of customers!

Stupid MaR download. All that downloading and one new chapter. the scans are prettier though.

And just the thought of Cannabis Japan=awesome.

Oh, and I officially want to go to Monaco now, just to ask to see the marijuana patch they're growing in the backyard. :D

AIR GEAR!!

Ogure Ito is incredible. A friend of mine brought back all 7 tankobon for me as a gift, and the stuff that's yet to come... so awesome.

I like Tenjho Tenge a bit more, I must admit, but his work in Air Gear is nothing less than spectacular. He's an incredible blend of design and composition aesthetics with an amazing eye for action.

So I'd guess that that's Oh Great!'s real name?

Uhh, isn't it just Oh Great! written phonetically in Japanese?

"Ito Ogure" is the man's real name, unless I and a lot of other people are misinformed. The story I hear is that because "Ogure Ito" (remember, Japanese go surname first) sounds very much like the phonetic mangling of "Oh Great", he picked that up as his pen-name (keep in mind, he started out doing porn comics, so I guess he felt the need for a nom de plume), and kept it when he moved into the mainstream.

Where he most definitely belongs... I was actually a little surprised when my buddy told me that Air Gear isn't that popular outside of people who like in-line skating. Which is a mystery to me... I don't really like in-line skating a whole lot meself, though it's fun to watch 'em in the half-pipe, but the draw for me concerning the man's artwork has everything to do with his excellent sense of motion, action, speed and intense, dramatic composition. The man's work is exciting to read, plain and simple.

That, combined with his design sense (Air Gear in particular includes a lot of cool logos and so forth, with each group of Storm Riders having a unique emblem) and his considerable skills at drawing sexy women (without going overboard into outright caricature, like the pinup shots of Oku Hiroya) make both of his latest comics series top favorites of mine.

Yeah, OG's art is amazing sometimes. OTOH, sometimes you just don't understand what the heck is going on, as the narration's not that good. Might be something lost in translation though.

I dunno, I never felt like I was confused... mind you TJTG can get a little bizarre with it's whole "mystic fighting abilities" routine, but it's not any worse than most fighting manga.

Speaking of AIR GEAR, I wonder how the rest of the fights are going to fair now that everyone is paired up with an opposite. So far our favorite team of bladers are getting their asses handed to them. The guy with the long arms, and the dude who can manipulate time scare me.

As for Tenjou Tenge, the wierd mysticism is starting to make sense. It was fun to see DEATH fight Takayanagi (FIGHT: #75), but there is more to it now that we know the truth behind the DARK Dragon's power and how it corrupts the soul. Also, Takayanagi is proving to be more powerful than expected. I can't wait to see him push his abilities. The way the series is going, I'm positive there are going to be climactic events within the next few fights. Devestating even.

Ogure Ito is in fact Ogure Ito, and INKTHINKER is right. Oh! Great is a phonetic pun of his real life name, just read the Kanji of his name. It's an awesome pen name, and Ogure is the best there is at motion, action, dynamics, and design. The American artist Brian Hitch is good too, but Ogure has so much more flair and dazzle to his work, that his style becomes so appealing. You know he could go 'realistic' style extremely easy, but that would limit his imagination in some cases. Plus he's doing TWO books a month, so unlike Hitch, he can't focus so much on detail. He leaves that up to the background artists, which makes me amazed at how fast he can lay out the design and set up for the pages of TWO books -consecutively each month. Ogure's attention to anatomy is amazing too, especially when you consider how many Manga-ka don't pay any attention to it. He's Oh! Great in more ways than one.

Pika!

I've only read the story for Air Gear up to Trick 18 or so, I think... I have the tankobon up to vol. 7, so I know about the long-armed guy who's fighting Buccha (and vol. 7 shows how well that went) and I can see some of the other characters, but their specifics elude me. Plus there's a ton of story leading up to that... Ikki's two loser buddies learn to master Air Trek as well (what's up with the fat kid riding on his head?!?), and they gain some girl with an apparent split personality and an eyepatch.

I'm afraid I'm right out of Tenjho Tenge after about Fight 65 or so, since the scans dried up after DC/CMX licensed it... but their release schedule for TJTG is so painfully slow!! It's going to take them two years or so to catch up to where I am now... and I'm still fearful that they'll edit out the racier scenes, even though they're often important to the plot (Mitsuomi's affair with Shin's girlfriend, for instance, is integral to the plot, but also borders on outright pornography).

Well, assuming the teams put on them are at least semi decent that's cool. If not then I shall be saddened.

It's always sad to lose SnoopyCool from a series, since they're so goddamn awesome.

At least they finished the series. Midori that is.

And I liked the ending, though I do feel bad for Takako. And the little gay boy, but whatever.

For anyone who didn't know, SC put out 11 volumes of Hajime no Ippo, the crazy amazing bastards.

And Takamura and Aoki get some awesome points. Takamura gets many more, naturally, but then Takamura's pretty Jaw.

The best part? Yaki in a while!

I've been painstakingly reading through Ippo while stuck on dial up. 41 volumes in.

Pretty damn awesome stuff, though it'd be more awesome if I weren't... stuck on dial up.

Is there a link for this site? I tried snoopycool.com but I get nuthin'. Thanks.

Jack
04-05-2005, 06:05 AM
Yeah, the SC site itself is down at the moment (though that is the correct URL), which has made it difficult for them to work.

There's a temporary site up at http://70.84.32.190/

Also, just read Ippo 42. Aub, I'm nominating Takamura for the Pantheon. You second?

Damn right. Is that up to his title match, because the man's just awesome there.

Jack

42 ends with the gong ringing to start the title match.

It's the bit where Ippo gets a round 1 KO and then Takamura says "You think I'd forget a promise?"

That and where he promises to give the old man his first world championship belt.

So jaw. Plus pervert, so you know he's going to like hanging around with Kakashi and Slay.

Where'd you get that?

And is that Kimura?

In any case, I hear that the series is up to around 70+ volumes, and I'm not even sure it's done, so we're in this for the long haul.

I'm guessing the series ends with Ippo taking out Ricardo, then defending his title against Miyata, but I'd prefer if it was just 40+ volumes of Takamura being an ass.

Jack

From the SC site. I don't think it's Kimura, though it kinda looks like him.

I think I heard the series was up to 80 volumes by now.
