Good work. I've been without 'em for nearly 10 months now, with the exception of a few drags at a party. Not easy to quit, so I'm also proud of ya.

Hmmm... I have an uncle in China who has been smoking for yrs... When he tried to stop, his weight bloated and started feeling very sick. I guess some people just cant help it.
Anyway, i tried to smoke but my sinuses erupted...Jeez... So much for following HB...:(

What were you smoking? Maybe the smoke was just driving out your possessed ectoplasm, like Mr. Todd.

I have to say that I like the pencils A LOT too.
Congrats on the smoking thing - Gary and I quit in '88 and I at least still get pangs. Insidious little ba%$#&ds ( are we allowed to say that) but it does get easier. You just have to completely abstain - that's all..
good luck!

Y'know... HB's dad... (Praetorius... right?) Has to be one of my favorite characters...
And the LoJo sitting on a rock pic is cool... It's fantastic how you can sketch that well.

Ahhh... He went through hell to draw like that i bet, Peterson, Tad and others probably did too. Artists usually have to go through a tough fix just to draw pics like those...
SOOOOO.... Cheers to them!!! YAY!

Morna, thanks. And we are totally abstaining, 10 weeks today. So we've saved over £450 so far
Hellsaint, will do HB dad for you at some point, gearing up for Otto's LoJo story at the moment.
TWyrm, thanks dude

My one regret? There are no women in the story.
Or, are there?
Script pages went out to you and Petersen on Tuesday.
Sent them to you via 4-5 day-hurry-up-and-get-it-there

Otto, loving the Stan as...avatars
Looking forward to the script. Have cleared my schedule for a few weeks (no freelance work) so I can give it a good crack.
Discussions. On the threads or private message?
Petersen, looking forward to the cover. Will it contain a box'out for the SoH story like the Monkeyman and O'Brien on the HB covers? I could do the SoH box out.
Petersen
06-23-2004, 04:31 PM
Yes I was planning on doing the cover with boxed out SoH. If you want to do the inset, you are more than welcome to.
although you are going to have your hands full with this script.... :)

So? Feed back, Davey boy, feed back.
On this thread? Sure, why waste PM space.
Petersen
06-23-2004, 10:11 PM
Hmm...How do I do this without ruining it for Fitz and the other members (who have to wait for fitz to draw it before it see light of day)?
My only real change, if I were going to change something, would be that the reader gets nothing in the end. The item in question should be seen..but not explained. I think that would give the reaction you are looking for.
Other than that Page 2 is jam packed....might suggest pushing some of that on to another page, but if fitz is up for it...sweet.
All in all, a great script, nice notes on the side about some visual clues, and leaving all the suspense a Lojo story should have...
did I mention I liked it so much I FINISHED the cover!!!!?!?!?!
Yes...about 10x16 is the art size. yes...10x16. Watercolor painting...monochrome....yes monochrome, like Marv fitz.....
Don't think I should post it yet though....not that it spoils the story. I had the image in my head before I read the script, but reading it made it nessesary to comit to paper. It will be donated to the Rick Cortez auction...
perhaps it's unvailing will coinside with wave 3 of ron's plans..
-Petersen
Otto66
06-24-2004, 12:21 AM
Like the box in "Seven" and the case in "Ronin", the audience
need not know. As Hitchcock offered, its the "Mcguffin".
In my last notes I mentioned that this could be a second story
or a middle story. No reason for it to be linear or for there ever
to be a first or third story.
Knowing that the cover is done makes the hole in my chest
where my heart should be go pitty-pat. :)
fitzroy
06-24-2004, 05:48 AM

PeterSEN-SAI, I see no reason not to post the cover art, perhaps in your own thread? We'd all like to see!

Doesn't stop you emailing me a preview tho. *wink*
JohnThompson

Fitz will be drawing the Lobster story. I am painting the Screw on Head story.
Wha---? So, you are doing the cover art of LoJo, with an inset of Fitz art for a SOH story that you're doing? And Fitz is drawing the LoJo story, but isn't doing the main cover image. Makes sense (for this message board, anyway).
Howzabout you guys get together and decide when you can post some art, 'kay? Me likey the art!:D
fitzroy
06-24-2004, 08:19 AM
Ok, let's recap
Otto has written a LoJo story for me to produce the artwork for. Not got the script yet, Petersen has a copy and has done the cover. Leaving a boxout for me to do a SoH image. Which will link to his SoH story that Ruta (I think) has written.
The box out isn't finalised yet, Petersen may still do it.
Hellsaint
06-24-2004, 08:23 AM
And all us fans could do is just wait... How evil... :D
Well.... you could wait til it's all neat and tidy but in the "real" comic world aren't covers put in PREVIEWS three or four months before the comic is published? ;)
Seriously though, you might wait. Posting the cover will just start the incessant nagging of Fitz to get the comic done and he hasn't even gotten the script yet.

That is a good point. For both Fitz and myself.
edit* and yes, Ruta wrote the Screw on head story. I have it in my posession. And yes this is a race. Who will win, Fitz or Petersen...and GO!
I mocked up the logo & credits on the cover last night. I didn't draw the box out in the original art, just space for it, so I inset photoshop the painted SoH I did in as a place holder there...If you want the spot Fitz it's yours...Otherwise, I'll leave it...oh and e-mail comin your way fitz..

I've just got the email

I don't think I can reach the bar.
Otto66
06-24-2004, 08:55 AM
Just my 2, but, don't think any art should be on the board
till its all done. Once Fitz gets the script, he may want to make
changes. We may disagree on what some of the characters say
or when they say it. Davey (can I call ya Davey?) already thinks
one plot point should be changed. All said, once its done, then
a thread should be set aside just for the book.
BTW, nifty new avatar, Fitz. ;)
Petersen

Otto Has spoken
oh...and don't call me Davey..I'm not claymation and my dog doesn't talk back to me
don't get me wrong Otto, I REALLY enjoyed reading it...even snuck back in the house while reading on the deck because the neighbor lady who likes to talk was out in her yard...I dsidn't want to be interrupted. If it changes, cool, if not cool. And besides...I need to focus on SoH

Definately. and it should be open to FINISHED fan comics relating to Hellboy as well. so if any other talented folks (Ron, I'm thinkin of you here) want to do up thier own stories, they can...perhaps Tad will ink his genius (yet evil) HB Jr strip.

I disagree on this. Incessant nagging will prepare these guys for the real-world editors/art directors they'll likely encounter as professionals. Builds character.

Letterers....bah..put them in digitaly.

I'm a pretty good letterer, and I'd sure love a sneak peek at these pages....
Or, I could just "shut up", if you prefer digital. ;)
Otto66
06-24-2004, 12:32 PM
Yea, just like a real comic, there is dialogue. So, yea the art needs
to make space for word balloons.
Fitz? If you don't want to letter, we can leave that part over
to JT. I'm not all happy with all of the dialogue and thought we
could kick it around. Still, don't want to delay the book over
some pesky words. ;)

Hey, he's painting my story.
Though I don't know how to stretch the logic to explain why Fitz got to see it and you didn't. Hmmmmm... Maybe because Fitz is then doing the art for the LoJo story? I bet you'll get to see Fitz's art and I won't, if that makes you feel better/smug.

Don't want Fitz to have ANY spare time eh?
I dunno if I could try thinking about painting 2 stories back to back right now, so I'm glad Ruta hasn't written another.
With a mantel nearly refinished, a house 60% cleared of sawdust and a party in less than a week, It will be after the bash that I begin to work on #1...
which if Ruta doesn't mind, I will call Ironsides
If Otto is going to churn out stories, I think more artists have to be drafted. You know how impatient Hellboy/LoJo fans are! ;)

I don't even iron my own clothes except for dress shirts just before debate competitions... so I really can't help you there.

That's because you're a likkle winkler, and you're not allowed to use the iron, unless it's a special occasion to help you feel all grown up...

Hey, Fitz.
The thumbnails look great. Nothing I would change.
The alternate page one is very stylish and would have worked
if the story was longer than 6 pages. As it is, I like the idea
of grabbing the reader from the first panel and thrusting them
forward till the end. Each panel makes sense and doesn't
duplicate the dialogue. As I've said, even if they don't like
the story, they are gonna luv the art. ;)

No... I actually think it's ok. Otto and Fitz aren't going to take it to a painful level, they're responsible people... (i hate the smiley... I just can't come up with a better text equivilant).
And this helps to build up anticipation for the comic... although It could become an anti-climax if this is over-hyped as Matrix revisited and revolutions were.
I have no worries... plus this banter actually shows us that they are doing something.

All I can say is that it will (probably) be worth the wait. The script is great, and hopefully the art will match.

It's technically very well done but the poses are all... posed. It doesn't look like they're all prepared to attack something out of the frame, it just looks like a variety of odd life-drawing poses with X-men costumes added. They don't seem to be responding to anything or to one another. It's rather weird. I'd rather see some energy and narrative life in a comic image than precision execution.

I never leave the house without 3 squirrels and a ferret, just in case.
Is it wise for a married man, or any man, to walk around with
squirrels and a ferret in his trousers? I mean sure, its fun for the
first 10 minutes or so. But after that... :D

I have a special ferret holder that connects to any pair of breetches or pants.

A hat you say?
does it have feathers?
Are the Squirrels and Ferret part of the "pimp" getup?

Poor fellow. Blinded by cabel TV and the OC.
I'm think'n that the bike may be a classic of some
sort. Maybe and Indian or early Harley? Hard to
tell from the pic.
I sold off my Bowen min-bust collection a while
back and have been very selective with what I
have bought since. Still, this Galactus just looks
too good to pass up.

That's nice pic fitz... very nice...
Except... wouldn't the arm bend at the elbow after it reached the lowest point? Then it would be a better starting point for another strike.
And the Sam looks excellent... I think I'm kinda partial to the round barrel design.
