IMPACT 739

http://www.marvunapp.com/Appendix/impact739.jpg
History: (Captain America I#226)- After Captain America lost the super-soldier serum due to psychological damage done by a mind-probe, he engaged in combat with SHIELD's Impact 739 robot to prove himself. Nick Fury caught wind of this immediately and had the robot shut down, but at the same time, the Red Skull was mounting a takeover of the SHIELD Helicarrier, infecting SHIELD's own agents with a mind control beam. As Fury scuffled with one of his own men, the controls for Impact 739 were shot, and the robot sprang back to life to assault Captain America.

With no means of escape from the training room, Captain America was forced to continue his fight against the robot. Although he gave it the best he could offer, Impact 739 nearly defeated him, when, at the point of death, Captain America's mind refired the super-soldier serum, restoring him to his peak strength. He then effortlessly broke free from Impact 739's grasp and hurled its staff through its chest. The robot continued to advance upon him, but Captain America decapitated it with his shield.

(Wolverine II#149)- Impact 739 was one of several robots which were obtained by the mutant Reanimator and restored by him. It was possibly destroyed by Wolverine and the New Warriors when the loss of Reanimator's powers caused him to loose control of his robots, making them run amock.

Scarlet Scarab.

http://www.marvunapp.com/Appendix/scarscbt1.jpg
History:
(Thor I#326 (fb)) - On his deathbed, Mehemet's father bequeathed to him his quest: the search for the Ruby Scarab he had once possessed as Egypt's champion during World War II and after. After years of searching, Mehemet found the Scarab in the exact same place his father had originally found it, in the pyramid containing the tomb of Garret (an enchantment returned it there when it depleted its power stores, unbeknownst to the Faouls). From the Ruby, Mehemet gained the power to become the new Scarlet Scarab and he set out to become Egypt's new champion. Among his foremost goals was the protection of the priceless artifacts of ancient Egypt.

(Thor I#326) - The Scarlet Scarab flew to a museum in Chicago, Illinois, in search of the Eye of Horus, stolen a few weeks before from Cairo. Though he did not find the idol, he did do some major damage to the museum in his frustration. The Curator subsequently arranged a trap with Thor to catch him in the act if he tried again. They did indeed confront the Scarlet Scarab, but despite the curator's insistence that they did not have only stolen properties, the Scarab called him a liar and moved to attack him. Thor stopped him, and after doing further damage to the museum, they took their struggle outside. The Scarlet Scarab held his own against Thor, even gaining the advantage by draining his power, but Thor managed to tear the Ruby Scarab from him, removing the source of his powers.

After the Scarab had explained his origins and quest, Thor returned the Ruby Scarab to him, and the two learned from the curator that the police suspected the location of the real thieves. Teaming up, Thor and the Scarab captured both the thieves and the Eye of Horus. While both Thor and the Scarab demanded both the idol and the criminals for trial, they compromised, with Thor taking the criminals for trial, and the Scarab returning to Cairo with the Eye of Horus.

TAGAK the LEOPARD LORD
(go with the K.) :D

http://www.marvunapp.com/Appendix/tagakleopard1.jpg

History:
(Daredevil I#72 (fb)) - Tagak was summoned to hunt down and capture the thief Quothar, who had stolen, among other things, the Sacred Krill Statue.

(Daredevil I#72 (fb)) - Tagak and his brother-in-sight, Opar, were sent to Earth via a Crysto-Mirror, and he pursued Quothar.

(Daredevil I#72(fb)) - Tagak and Opar's hunt attracted the attention of the police and Daredevil, leading to a confrontation of mistaken intentions. Tagak stopped Quothar from badly injuring DD and a cop, after which he left to continue his mission.

(Daredevil I#72) - After a series of thefts from the museum by a cat-like man, Daredevil went after Tagak, tracing the energies of his Crysto-Mirror. After a brief struggle, Dardevil managed to knock Opar out, blinding Tagak and enabling Daredevil to stun him. Tagak revealed his mission and the existence of Quothar, and Daredevil joined Tagak in the tracking down Quothar. However, the museum director, Norman Daniels, who had believed Tagak to be the thief, had some security guards (or policemen) ready. One of them shot (and apparently killed) Opar, while Daniels himself shot Tagak. Daredevil punched out Daniels and then tackled Quothar. Tagak, having only been grazed by the bullet, recovered, but found himself blind without Opar. He offered Daredevil the chance to return with him to his world, but Daredevil decided to stay on Earth. Tagak took Quothar back through the Crysto-Mirror.

(Defenders I#62 (fb) - BTs) - Tagak was one of many heroic adventurers who saw Dollar Bill's television spot about joining the Defenders.

(Defenders I#62) - Tagak arrived at Richmond Riding Academy, prepared to join the Defenders alongside Black Goliath, Captain Mar-Vell, Captain Ultra, the Falcon, Havok, Hercules, Iron Fist, Jack of Hearts, Marvel Man, Ms. Marvel, Nova, Paladin, Polaris, Prowler, the Son of Satan, Stingray, Torpedo, and the White Tiger. Tagak supported the nomination and election of Hercules as the temporary group's de facto leader. Later, Tagak was roped into attempting to capture the Hulk by Torpedo, and he joined several other Neo-Defenders in the ill-fated effort.

(Defenders I#63) - Hercules broke up the pointless struggle so that they could investigate a group of super-villains who were calling themselves Defenders and rampaging through New York City. The group was split up into three, with Tagak, Marvel Man, Nova, Polaris, and the Son of Satan accompanying Nighthawk. As their leader took off, Tagak pointed out that he couldn't fly, and Marvel Man and Nova carried him. The group followed a report of a Defender stealing a man's car, only to find out it was the man's son, who had become obsessed with super-heroes after seeing Dollar Bill's spot. Tagak's group was underwhelmed at the caliber of the threat posed by these "criminal Defenders."

(Defenders I#64) - Nighthawk's group apprehended a purse snatcher, who turned out to be the same kid they had stopped the day before. Tagak and the others complained about their time being wasted, and they all quit.

ABCISSA

http://www.marvunapp.com/Appendix/abscis1.gif
History: (Wolverine II#52-53 (BTS))-The Jubilee who would become Abcissa was captured by Mojo and her future self and brought to the Big Crunch, a name for the final collapse of all matter in the universe, which precedes the next Big Bang. While there, she agreed to become Mojo's slave in exchange for his agreeing not to interrupt the universal cycle by preventing the Big Crunch.

(Wolverine II#52-53)-Now an old woman (or perhaps just aged by her experiences, or by exposure to temporal energy). Abcissa accompanied Mojo to Earth, where they captured the mainstream Jubilee and brought her to the Big Crunch. Jubilee was astounded that Mojo had made such an offer, and said that she would never do that. Mojo unmasked Abcissa revealing that, in fact, she would. Wolverine arrived with a large missile to obliterate Mojo, and Jubilee refused to serve him. At this, Abcissa ceased to exist.

Noose

http://www.marvunapp.com/Appendix/noosen2.jpg

History: Dragonpaw worked for the Asian crimelord Yi Yang.

(Nocturne#3) Yi Yang charged Dragonpaw and Noose with carrying out the task of kidnapping George Jenkins and defeating Nocturne (Gray Poldark).

(Nocturne#4) Dragonpaw and Noose attacked Nocturne in London. He defeated them, but Yi Yang's hulking agent Hatemare defeated him in turn.

Mischief came to Poldark's rescue, freeing him from imprisonment on Yi Yang's boat. Mischief then helped him defeat Noose and Dragonpaw. They then faced Hatemare-but Poldark received a shocking vision from his armor. Hatemare was in fact Night Raven, whom Yi Yang had brought back as a revenant in the manner she had done with Doctor Hurt/Suture. Hatemare then remembered his past life as Night Raven, and then confronted Yi Yang. Yi Yang's boat exploded, but Mischief and Nocturne survived-presumably Noose and Dragonpaw did not.

Comments: Created by Dan Abnett and Jose Fonteriz.

The Nocturne limited series cannot have taken place on Earth-616 for several reasons. The history of Night Raven on Earth-616 is well dealt with elsewhere on the site, even up to what he did in the pre-modern era, and it is remarkably different.

Besides this, Nocturne#1 has a very odd piece of dialogue in which a policeman states "Like these super-heroes, do you, sir? Can't stand them, me. Thank Jiminy there aren't any real ones, eh?". For Earth-616, this piece of dialogue would not work, even in the pre-modern era, since metahuman adventurers such as the Human Torch, the Sub-Mariner, and so forth were publicly active circa World War II till the 1950's, and various pre-modern metahuman adventurers were active in various later decades.

See Suture entry for more info on Earth-Nocturne.

The last panel of Nocturne#3 stated that the next issue's story would be "To the Dragon, a Daughter...." an homage to the Dennis Wheatley novel (later Hammer film) To the Devil a Daughter. In fact, issue#4's story was called "Trade Secrets".

StarBlaster's Robot
http://www.marvunapp.com/Appendix/starblst2.jpg

The Starblasters' Robot was dispatched to earth to create a diversion to occupy earth's heroes. It possessed superhuman speed, strength (class 20) and durability, and could fire blasts of energy from its face. Nova and Northstar opposed the robot, but while they could keep pace with its speed, they were barely able to harm it. It was finally destroyed when the Hulk arrived, and smashed it into pieces. -Secret Defenders #11

The Rattler

http://www.marvunapp.com/Appendix/rattlew21

History:
(Rawhide Kid#37) - On the run from the law, the Rawhide Kid attempted to hide out in a circus. Whirlo, one of the circus' aerialists, figured there must be a large reward for the Kid, and attempted to capture him. The Kid managed to dodge Whirlo, and escaped. Later, however, the Kid encountered a gymnastically skilled criminal, the Rattler, and suspected Whirlo. The Kid confronted Whirlo, who challenged him to an aerial fight. The Kid managed to bounce Whirlo off of the highwire, but saved him, just as the real Rattler revealed himself. It was the circus' ringmaster, who had hoped that Whirlo would be framed for his crimes.

(TGK#88) - Sometime later, the Rattler was paroled from prison. Soon after, the Rattler showed up miles away, in the town of Tombstone. After the Rattler robbed a bank and escaped, the Two-Gun Kid checked out the circus where the Rattler had worked, which happened to be nearby. Whirlo met him and explained that the Rattler wished revenge on him for turning him over to the police after his defeat by the Rawhide Kid.
Soon after, the Rattler bushwacked some payroll transporters, running into the Two-Gun Kid (who had anticipated this attack) in the process. The Kid held his own against the acrobatic owlhoot until he stumbled over a rock, and the Rattler cole-cocked him with his gun. The Rattler left the stunned Kid, preferring to destroy his reputation, rather than finish him off. However, the Kid figured out that Whirlo had been acting as the Rattler, tracked him down to the circus, and exposed him. Upon capture, Whirlo revealed that he did it all for revenge on the ringmaster for having framed him before...oh yeah, and for the money, too, but that's just gravy (well, he didn't say that...but he was thinkin' it! If you hold the issue up to the right light, you can tell...it's in his eyes, man!).

According to the ape-demon, this winged dragon was "birthed among the dark stars." It took the form of a camel while it served Natohk, but after his defeat it returned to its dragon form. It tried to assist the ape-demon in fighting off Red Sonja and Zula, but was instead tricked into biting down on the Chthon Scrolls, which destroyed both the dragon and the ape-demon.

Pagan
http://www.marvunapp.com/Appendix/Pagan.18.gif
History: Pagan is a creature who revels in destruction.

AVENGERS (v3)#50(fb)-He was once one of three brothers, who were born and grew up in the Naga Hills in India. While he demonstrated exceptional intelligence as a youth, this did not save him from a sickness that swept through their village and killed both he and one of his brothers. Somehow, however, the third brother (Jonathon Tremont) managed to absorb both of his dying life forces into himself.
Years later, Tremont obtained one of three energy triangles which were created by the Universe as antibodies against the Trion shard of evil. Tremont used the power he gained from the triangle to resurrect his two brothers, who became Lord Templar and Pagan. The three brothers worked to gain the energy of the other two energy triangles, primarily throught the creation of the Triune Understanding (see Tremont, below).

AVENGERS(v.3)#14: Pagan is first seen causing a ruckus in New York by destroying nearly everything he sees. He escapes the Avengers by burrowing into the ground at an incredible speed.

AVENGERS(v.3)#15: While the team is speaking with Triathlon, Pagan burst from the ground and battles the Avengers yet again until Lord Templar shows up and tosses him into outer space.

AVENGERS(v.3)#36-37: Pagan and Lord Templar bust into the house of Mrs. Chandler, the widowed wife of 3D Man and battle the Avengers. It is revealed that Pagan is now working for Lord Templar. Pagan is knocked out by Photon and Jack of Hearts, and Templar is defeated by Triathlon, prompting the duo to vanish from the battle.

AVENGERS (v3)#50: Aboard the Trion energy shard, Tremont released Lord Templar and Pagan to help battle the shard's defenders. Ultimately, however, Tremont drained both of their life forces back into himself in an effort to destroy the shard, and steal the power of all three triangles for himself. Tremont's energy was subsequently siphoned by Triathalon...and the fate of Lord Templar is unknown.

Neptuna
http://www.marvunapp.com/Appendix/neptunia2.jpg
History: (Venus #18)- Neptunia is the daughter of the Olympian sea-god, Poseidon, who was known to the Romans as Neptune. When she learned that mortals had accidentally killed him at their atomic testing sites at the islands of Bikini and Eniwetok, she lashed out by creating homes along the Atlantic coastline for mortals under the guise of a mortal woman, Diana Seacrest. She would then send tidal waves to destroy the homes and kill the mortals who bought them. Venus in a mortal guise bought one of these homes and confronted her to stop the tidal waves from occurring and to protect any further mortal human beings from being harmed. In their subsequent clash, Neptunia was apparently killed herself when she was distracted and lost control of the storm she had created.

(Venus #18 (BTS))- Neptune revealed his death had never happened or Zeus returned him to life. It is unknown if Neptunia was truly killed herself or returned to life as well.

Comments: Created by Bill Everett

Neptunia obviously took her mortal name from Diana (Roman name of her cousin Artemis) and Seacrest from the fact that she is a goddess of the sea (of which the Greeks, a sea-faring people, had many). While it is not revealed in the story, it is likely the source of her mortal wealth was from ancient Greek treasures and lost sunken ships she knew where to find. (No wonder the treasures of Troy and Mycenae were never found. The Olympian gods have them in Swiss bank accounts !) It’s also odd that she would not recognize her cousin Venus even in mortal clothing.

Since Neptune is alive in the present Marvel Universe, accounts of his death have been obviously exaggerated.

Since Neptunia is a female variant of her father’s Roman name, it is likely a Roman name for herself as well. As such, it is hard to tell what her true or Greek name is to discern her mother’s identity. Poseidon, fortunately, had few daughters. He fathered Charybdis by Gaea, Despoena (Roman name Pomona) by Demeter, and Pegasus (possibly female) by Medusa. Amphitrite gave him two daughters: Benthescyme, who married an Ethiopian or Egyptian king and Rhode, eponym of the island of Rhode, who was loved by the sun god Helios. I’d say that Neptunia was mostly Rhode who was most likely a goddess. (Of course, there is a long shot that Neptunia was actually born during the days of the Roman Empire instead of the Mycenaean Age. And then too, she could be ret-conned too into an Eternal or Atlantean.)

DAGDA
http://www.marvunapp.com/Appendix/celtgd5.gif

History: (Celtic Myth) The Dagda is the son of the Fomor King Elathan and Danu who were seeking to create a force for good from within the evil and corruption of the Fomore. She raised the Dagda and his other siblings on Earth and as a god, they led many attempts to oust the Fomore hold from ancient Eire. Recognizing the Dagda as his son, Elathan seduced the Dagda's daughter, Eriu, and she gave birth to Eochaidh Bres, the trickster of the Celtic Gods. When the Fomore sought to conquer heaven from their father Nuadhu (known as Net to the Fir Bholg), Bres became King of Eire without anyone knowing the knowledge of his father's identity. Revealing it, Bres surrendered both heaven and earth to the Fomore and reduced the Danaans to serving menial roles. Confined to digging ditches, the Dagda once more led his brethren and supporters against the Fomore and conquered both heaven and earth. Becoming god of heaven, he divided Eire among his sons and sought worship from throughout Ancient Ireland and Briton.

(Thor I#398-399)- In modern years, Dagda supported Leir's choice to head to the aid of the Asgardians against Seth after Thor had vanquished one of Seth's beasts from Avalon. He located Asgard, and sent their best warriors to Asgard's aid, and even conducted the battle strategy from afar.

(Marvel Comics Presents #30)- Dagda tried to assuage Leir's choice to renew hostilities with the Fomore. He manipulated a group of insects to take the idea of war out of them.

(Thor #417)- Dagda once more located Asgard, unaware that Leir had fallen in love with Sif, the Asgardian goddess of the hunt. When Leir admitted his decision to kidnap her and make her his bride, he started to close the portal, but Leir and Caber jumped through it before it closed completely.

(Dr. Strange Annual#3)- As the sky-god Taranis, the Dagda, and his wife Morrigan supported their grandson Cernunnos in granting power to Kyllian in his oath to defend evil as their own representative on earth.

Comments: Adapted by Tom DeFalco & Ron Frenz.

A number of the Celtic Gods are referenced in the Hyborian era, by Conan and others, especially the Cimmerians. Dagda is among these, although to the best of my knowledge he has never been in that era. How this fits into his history will likely remain undetermined.

Much of this history is an attempt to streamline Marvel's haphazard Celtic Gods by throwing some speculation and actual Celtic Myth at it. Time will tell if it will be proven correct.

TAILHOOK

http://www.marvunapp.com/Appendix/tailhook1.jpg

History: (Nova II #2 (fb) - BTS ) - A nameless girl looked up to her older sister, who was a veteran of the Persian Gulf War. Her sister was raped at the Naval Tailhook Convention, and later committed suicide. The unnamed girl vowed to honor her sister's memory by killing rapists. While attending Yale University she killed her first rapist, and the local papers dubbed her the Tailhook Killer. She received a note in her mailbox from Laura Dunham, a fellow student who was sharing her mailbox. Laura knew that she was the Tailhook Killer, and asked if she was all right. Tailhook left a diary page in the mailbox, detailing the hardships of being a vigilante.

(Nova II #2) - Tailhook ambushed Carl Greenberg at the Naples Bar and forced him to confess to rape before snapping his neck. The next night she executed Paul Davidson, another suspected rapist. Laura's boyfriend Nova made Laura write a note to Tailhook, asking to meet at the Harkness Tower on Yale Campus. That night Tailhook revealed her history to Nova, and he pleaded with her to turn herself in. She threatened to jump off the tower, but Nova told her he refused to let her die. Laura then appeared, leaping off a nearby building, forcing Nova to save her while Tailhook leapt to her death. Laura felt that she let Tailhook make the decision she truly wanted.

He was childhood friend of Andromeda. Later he became second-in-command to Andromeda. Now he was an Atlantean troop leader for Attuma and fought against the rebels. He tried to kill Xiomara, but Andromeda saved her and overpowered Nautak. He was nearly buried under debris when his men shot at Andromeda and hit a rock wall instead. He soon found her again in a hidden cave where Xiomara was trying to kill her. Nautak sent his soldiers against the rebels and wanted to kill Andromeda on his own. She stabbed him with her knife.

Tragg possessed peak human strength and below average intelligence. He was loyal to Garvey who made him a sideshow star as "The World's Strongest Man." Tragg convinced Garvey to hire Darrel Daniel, informing him that the would-be clown was a generous millionaire. When Ayla fled the carnival to find the missing Daniel, Tragg drove with Garvey after her. Darrel's recently departed ghost caused Tragg to crash. Injured and infuriated Tragg followed Darrel's ghost into Man-Thing's swamp. Tragg ran afoul of Man-Thing and the two fought each other until Darrel broke them up and announced they would be players in his life story. Tragg was forced into the play, and watched dumbfounded as the Critics made their final judgment on Darrel's soul.

TRI-MAN

http://www.marvunapp.com/Appendix/trimandd1.jpg

History:
(DD#22) - Seeking to prove himself worthy of heading the Maggia after the imprisonment of their former leader, Count Nefaria (@ X-Men I##23), the Masked Marauder designed the Tri-Man android. He combined the abilities of three criminals into his android and then informed the Maggia to watch his Tri-Man defeat Daredevil at Madison Square Garden. Daredevil got wind of the challenge and met the Tri-Man in the middle of the ring. However, despite the abilities of the Tri-Man, Daredevil's skills proved superior, and the android was soon on the ropes.

Knowing there was some connection between Daredevil and Foggy Nelson and Karen Page, the Masked Marauder threatened to kill his two friends if Daredevil didn't surrender.

(DD#23) - Daredevil paused to decide how to react, and the Marauder used "levitation" device to sweep away the Tri-Man. Daredevil grabbed the Tri-Man's legs at the last minute, which is just what the Marauder had wanted, and DD arrived at his HQ in one of those nifty transparent containment tubes. The Marauder planned to add Daredevil's abilities into his Tri-Man (making him a Tetra-Man, I guess), but DD broke free. The Brain, Dancer, and Mangler each went after Daredevil, but none of them had any more luck than did the Tri-Man. DD defeated them all, as well as Gladiator, and the Maggia told the Masked Marauder to go take a long walk off a short pier.

http://www.marvunapp.com/Appendix/warhk21.gif

History:
(Power Man and Iron Fist#83(fb))-During the war in southeast Asia, Tanner was a career soldier, one of the best. He was a bit...bloodthirsty by "today's enlightened standards" (that statement was made in 1982), but he was a good soldier, and his men were intensely loyal to him...until they were all wiped out in an ambush. Only Tanner himself survived, and he was wounded, completely cut off from help. The people of a nearby village took him in and nursed him. After a time, he went "native" and virtually became one of them, marrying a local girl, Liu Thanh. then, like his battalion before him, his new home, and his wife, were wiped out.
This time, Tanner wasn't so lucky: he was shot to ribbons, living on nothing more than willpower. The military valued him and they brought him to army surgeon Noah Bernstein. Bernstein used his "process" (a precursor to that which mutated Luke Cage, Power Man) to heal Warhawk, granting him steel-like skin at the same time. Warhawk then became a virtual killing machine, but his experiences, or the process, unhinged his mind.

Nate Mare
http://www.marvunapp.com/Appendix/natemare1.jpg

(MSU#7 (fb)) - <1952> Nathaniel Mare was a private investigator who was dating the daughter of the police commissioner, Willis Tolan. Nat managed to track down the secret hideout of the criminal Professor Viper, who was blackmailing the city with a threat to poison the water supply. Nat met with Tolan, and Edward Fels and Martin Cross--the assistant District Attorney and a NYPD detective--and offered to bring Professor Viper in if they would give him credit for his capture. Tolan agreed, but unbeknownst to Mare, the three men were in cahoots with the mad scientist. They warned Professor Viper and then tailed Mare to his hideout, where they cracked him over the back of the head with a blackjack. Viper then poured his poison down Mare's throat and left him to die.

Mare's chauffeur, Ellery Snow, found him near death, and used some herbs to "ease his pain." However, Tolan, knowing Snow's loyalty, sent some cops to find him giving the herbs to Mare. Mare died seconds later, and Snow was charged with Nathaniel's murder, and he was sentenced to prison, where he stayed for forty years.
