I just recently read Essential X-men I & II and am hoping for 3 & 4 for Christmas! I've totally fallen in love with the format and the price of Marvel's Essential Volumes.

so here is your question...

Which X-Essential would you like to see next???

Essential X-men 6

Essential Excalibur I

Essential New Mutants I

Essential X-factor I

Other

I'd prefer a second volume of Essential Uncanny X-Men.

I still want them to keep with the essential X-Men for a while and once closer to the present, maybe introduce X-Factor or New Mutant essentials.

Roger that!!!

I also think that a New Mutants volume would be nice. But they need to collect the rest of the Stan Lee run and begin the Roy Thomas run. Classic stories in the Marvel Manner!

i'd love for them to start with New Mutants Volume 1!!! but I could also support continuing with X-men until it gets closer to the present. The original run doesn't hold as much of a draw for me, but I will eventually get them too. maybe I don't know what I am missing!

Frankly, _no_ pre-PAD issues of X-Factor were "Essential".

I beg to differ. Some big things happened in the Louise/Walt Simonson run.

As for which Essential i'd need... I have every X-Title. Except for the 60's issues... i've bought everything else in issue form. I would like a new Essential FF, though. :)

NO WAY!!!!!!!!

Ummm, what about the Simonson duo's run on the book!

Everyone must know that Lousie Simonson is the second greatest Xwriter to come along. Although it seems they are not getting any due respect.

Essential New Mutants is an absolute must, no question about it. Maybe start with Marvel Team-Up #100 (introducing Karma), then move on to the graphic novel and up through the Demon Bear Saga... throw in the Magik miniseries if you're feeling really sexy. I've got a full run, but I'd still love to have it in collected form, and for some of the newbies to get a chance to feel the magic. (Well, magic starting after Team America stopped guesting... *shudder*)

Essential X-Men #6 would be awesome as well, and would take us up through where my collection starts, giving me a full run, as it were, of Claremont's first 17 years. Definitely necessary in the future.

And hey, I wouldn't say no to Essential Uncanny X-Men #s 2 and 3 either, come to that. That would take us up to when it went into reprints (#67), and they could throw in the various guest appearances the X-Men made in between then and Giant-Size #1 to round it out. (Or reprint X-Men: The Hidden Years, though that's probably too recent.)

Really the only ones I don't want are Essential Excalibur (already have a full run) and X-Factor. Bring on the New Mutants!

Well said!

But...lets try to forget about the Hidden Years.

An essential Excalibur might help those confounded by the Excalibur/Captain Britain elements present in Uncanny.

Maybe... but unless I'm mistaken, The Fury and Mad Jim Jaspers didn't appear in Excalibur, having finished their stories back in Daredevils and Captain Britain.

You aren't mistaken. I'm mostly referring to the Courtney Ross/Saturnye/Saty-r-9 (sp) confusion.

Perhaps the two Captain Britain TPBs could be printed in one essential volume.

I'd prefer a second volume of Essential Uncanny X-Men.

Me too.

Actually, the vast majority of the backissues that make up X-Factor, New Mutants, and Excalibur are still relatively cheap.

The early, original X-Men stuff isn't. I'm not sure why Marvel never reprinted the rest of the pre-Claremont era.

Two more Essentials would cover it.

The essentials are pretty hard to do for Uncanny you need to cover 25-66 that 41 issues. Its a lot better if they just do 3 more full color masterworks
they have

Vol 1 1-11
Vol 2 12-21
Vol 3 22-31

they can do
Vol 4 32-43 12 issues
Vol 5 44-55 12 issues
Vol 6 56-66 11 issues

How is that hard? Like everyone's been saying, two volumes would do it. Volume 2 is 25-50 or so, volume 3 gives you 51-66, plus the various stories the X-Men made guest appearances in (about 10-15 total) during the intervening years. Piece of cake. Not to knock Masterworks, but people tend to be fans of either Essentials or Masterworks, not both; most of us who enjoy the stories in black and white aren't keen on paying extra for the colors, and volumes that won't go together on our shelves.

It's not a question of what I want. I need Essential Uncanny X-Men Vol. 2 & 3.

Exactly.

I think the Masterworks are beautiful books but I'll probably never buy one.

I'd simply rather have the cheap b&w reprints of the Essentials.

And, like Ryan, I actually need those damn issues. I have just about everything else. ;)

I'm ready for Essential X-Men 6 - with the end of the Romita run, Mutant Massacre and the rebuild of the team running up to the Fall of the Mutants.

Does anybody know if there are plans for more Essential X books? I have been seeing lots of new Essentials, but they have been lots random ones. Essential Iron Fist types are great, but I want Essential New Mutants!!!!

I keep up with the announcements of the new Essentials, and as far as I know, no new X-men ones have been announced. Doesn't mean there aren't plans for them, but nothing immediate.

I belive there is a new Fantastic Four volume coming out to coincide with the movie. A Defenders volume, a second Thor volume, a couple others I can't remember.

I still need to pick up he ones that have come out in the last couple months Luke Cage, Dr. Strange volume 2, Peter Parker, etc.

same here...

mainly because new mutants, excalibur, alpha flight, x-factor, or whatever else x-series from the mid-80's you can think of would be cheaper to pick up in individual issues than it would in essential format.

but i've been thinking about something. say they put out essential uncanny vol. 2. and lets say it goes up to issue 48 or so. that means they still would have i think 16-18 issues of the original run uncollected.
what could they do?
how about drop essential uncanny x-men vol. 3 and include the rest of the original run, along with the amazing adventures issues where the beast turns blue, plus any other miscellaneous post-original run, pre-anad x-men appearances.
that'd make me very happy as i'll be able to say i've read every issue of uncanny ever.

they've pretty much been dropping essentials at a pace of 4 every 3 months or so.
the next few coming up are thor 2, doc strange 2, defenders :), ff 4, hulk 3, and dracula 4.
they only released essential x-men 5 like in december or so, so i think theyre cooling their heels for a few more months on x-stuff. i wouldnt look for another x-essential til this fall.

im hoping for ka-zar, black panther (unlikely since theyre releasing other tpb's for it), invaders (unlikely since the new series flopped), captain marvel and what if (also unlikely since theyre releasing other tpb's for it, plus the original run had a few conan stories in it, and i don't think they can reprint them).

essential New Mutants would be hard to do, apparently over at the marvel masterworks page, someone said something about the work going directly to colour or something technical (lol) so the page quality might not be as good, however if Marvel really wanted it out, Im sure it could be done.

Essential Uncanny X-men would be easy to do, if they include the Beast and Angel solo stories of that time.

i'm too late to vote, sorry Jack, but ...

my immediate preference would be for a second Essential X-Men next, or another Essential Uncanny X-Men.

but I would like to see them properly collect all of the UK published Captain Britian stuff - by Alan Moore, Jamie Delgado et all - plus the few early Marvel USA CB appearances in one or two Essential's, as a lead-in to Essential Excalibur vol 1
