Right so 5 days ago gave into the urge ran to the nearest GAME and bought maself a new 360S and 5 days later would ye believe it, one single solid red dot oh and look, nothing on the xbox forums about fixing it, and cant find anything anywhere else. If anyone knows how to fix this it would be appreciated, reckon it'll be a case of going to the shop and raising hell...
anyone else suffering problems with the new xbox? they seem to know how to p*** off the customers.

i've had two, of the 5 friends i have with an xbox, had their systems red ring. One of them thought about using the towel solution ( wrap the console in a towel and leave it on till it overheats ) and the other physically took his console apart and tried to fix the issue himself.
both of them ended up buying new consoles.
sorry bud.....but good luck.

That -does- work, albeit only briefly.

yeah an ex flatmate done that and it worked fine after that with no problems. The problem is I have a new xbox model, and its probably the worst purchase ive made in a long time.

So take it back to the store, hope it was just a lemon. Could be the reason you haven't seen anything on it in the forums is because it isn't a problem, and you just got a crap one. Happens on occasion.

Did a little bit of searching and found this
http://gamersyndrome.com/2010/xbox-360/xbox-360-slim-overheating-issues-already-appearing/
A lot of the replies mention having this problem as well

From what I've read it's not really a hardware problem but an issue of where the uses puts the system, as it needs to be out in the open where it can get a lot of good ventilation. The way it shuts down and flashed the red light at you isn't the system overheating but a safety precaution that shuts the system down if it senses that it isn't getting enough ventilation so it won't get fried.

Buying one of those third party external fans might help as well.

Those are actually more damaging to the systems than helpful, in general. They block more airflow than they cool the system.

its been taken back to the store, and everyone in the store has no idea, theyde heard of the flashing red dot but not the solid one, they tested it in store and just stood stratching there heads, so they gave me a new console.
the over heating seems to be a big issue with the new ones, my one wasnt even warm, it was room temp, ah well got a new one anyway. reckon it was an internal problem.

Yea good god don't buy those.
The one solid red ring on the new "Slims" I believe is a safety shut off. Your XBox isn't in a good ventilation area. If you put it someone different where the heating and cooling will work better you won't have any issues.
Mine has been great thus far. I've left it running for days and had not issues.

Another reason for me to hate the new series of home consoles
Maybe I should be glad I never tried an XBOX as a console to own
I miss Sega

So far I don't have problems with mine. And I got it the first day it came out. You probably just had bad luck. Like I did when I got the old PS2 model. Everyone else's worked fine, but mine couldn't play those blue discs. And before getting the slim, it got to the point when it just doesn't want to work anymore.

I've owned three 360's so far, and I guess I've been lucky because I've never had any serious problems with any of them. The first one I owned I eventually sold to a roommate and it eventually "RROD'ed" a year and a half later (making it three and a half years of working fine).
My second (An Elite) worked fine for a couple years until I upgraded to the 360S for the bigger HD and quieter system. I gave it to a friend whose 360 crapped out on him and it's working fine for him so far (going on three years and counting), no problems with the 360S so far.
But I guess it's worth noting that my 360 sits on the bottom shelf of an "open" entertainment system with nothing else around it. The ventilation issue really does seem to be key to most of the issues with the 360 machines...my best friend has gone through five 360's, but he has his crammed into a tiny little space in an already-crowded entertainment system.

My 360S was quiet for only a week. Now it makes an annoying sound. If it has to do with space, I'll need to move it somewhere else then.
