X-Forums Scan-venger Hunt #30

Previous X Scan-venger Hunt Winners: eurazn (2-time champ), Mitsaso, justinkos91 (3-time champ), chemicalx, Valeria Kementari (5-time champ), Kid Icarus, Novaya Havoc, Giles (2-time winner), zMadMonk (3-time winner), limerick, longshot3, jeannie (2-time winner), Havok83 (4-time winner), Sagafan

1) All right, a point (always one) will be allowed to anyone who can post pictures or quotes of the following first.
2) If somebody gets the exact image before you, and you post the same one after it, you are awarded no points.
3) If you submit a different image for the same category, you still get a point.
4) If you try linking to an image on a site like uncannyxmen.net, that can't be viewed by the scorekeeper, you get no points.
5) Note that some items on the hunt have penalties, for not following directions, as well.
6) If you post a second image for something you already got points for, you get no points, however, no one else can use that image to gain points on it, either.
7) Unless explicitly stated otherwise, scans are expected to be provided for Marvel-616 characters. (example: an image of Cyclops from Age of Apocalypse battling that universe's Havok when asking for "Havok and Cyclops fighting" would not count. But if it specifically says, "Jubilee from the Days of Future Past", images of that alternate universe Jubilee would count.)
8) Be sure to include which #’s you’re trying to score points for.

You have a week, and next Monday, the winner of the Scan-venger Hunt will get to select up to twenty-five of the fifty (or they can just have bragging rights and ask someone else to do it for them), for the next X-Forums Scan-venger Hunt. (Looks like I'll end up being perennial scorekeeper.)

Last week, we had Havok83 getting their third win with 27 points!

I haven't counted that far up yet. I'm at work, and have images blocked.

Point is, I threw out at least 3 of his points yesterday, for different, but wholly explained reasons. Score remains as of post #37 until I can get home, past the image blocker, and actually see what folks have listed.

Ah I didn't realise. Just looking at the first page I noticed some of them aren't crossed off yet either. That explains why.

I've also thought of another possible fundamental flaw. Isn't it possible to edit in a scan to an earlier post to make it look like you got it first, or would this be noticed?

You do that at your own peril, it's wiser to just post the image in at the end, so it doesn't slip by scorekeeping. Why edit where I've already said I've counted past, after all?

I'm not saying I'd do it. Just noticed that someone else had posted a pic of El Guapo (it was a different pic, so it's irrelevant anyway) after I did yesterday but edited it into their earlier post. It just occurred to me that you could use this as a possible cheating method.

I'm not that desperate to win. I get pleased if I make it into double figures.:biggrin:

I haven't counted that far up yet. I'm at work, and have images blocked.

Point is, I threw out at least 3 of his points yesterday, for different, but wholly explained reasons. Score remains as of post #37 until I can get home, past the image blocker, and actually see what folks have listed.

No worries. I wasn't trying to call you out. For some reason my browser wouldn't load your image entirely, so I only saw the top and the claw picture was on the bottom. It's easy to overlook things on here.

I think I figured out where the confusion is. Post #34 got edited to add 3 more images after I'd already counted it. (I went through the whole thread from the start.) The danger in editing, and adding stuff in after having one image there, rather than making a whole new post... which was what witness and I were talking about as the one curveball I can get.

I'm fixing your overall score. Give me a few minutes, and it will be updated as of this post. Sorry about any confusion/hassle, if you're playing in the future, can you do me a solid and not edit like that? Totally throws me off my game, dude.

He wasn't outed at that time, but it was apparently a subtle nod towards it. It was always intended that Northstar was gay, but during that era it was illegal (according to the Comics Code Authority) to have outed gay characters in comics. So the closest they could come to it was Rogue knowing SOMETHING about Northstar, some secret he was keeping from the others.

I think John Byrne has said he always wrote him with the subtext that he was gay since Alpha Flight debuted.

I remember the "What If" issue in which she pulls Emma's heart out of her chest (kind of glorious, really), but that seemed to rub people the wrong way with respect to continuity. Apparently she can't do that sort of thing without fusing herself in the process (like that Wolverine panel showed), but I recall her threatening to phase people's hearts before. Was she bluffing or does the act of making the heart intangible render it unable to pump blood through the body?

If it's intangible, it shouldn't be able to pump blood, or react with any of the "tangible" (for want of a better word) body parts

What I love about this is that it rubbed people up the wrong way about continuity. It's an issue of "What If", if there's one book Marvel should get away with not worrying about continuity, it's that one. :biggrin:

I'm thinking it has more to do with her making the heart intangible by touching it and thus making it possible for her to just phase it out of the body. With Wolverine, she actually resolidified inside his head, there's no reason she should have to do to that to phase an organ out. At least I don't think so? It's not like she turns solid whenever she makes anything else intangible. Maybe I'm missing something really obvious, idk.

This makes sense. It's not as fun though. I just think it's a big Pryde bluff. Let's face it, her most dangerous weapon is still her mouth.

Ms. Hoo's only appearance is listed in Mutant Tracker, it's an issue that ripped off the movie "Face-Off".

Deathbird desecrating a corpse... it was an insectoid alien, and she was mocking Lilandra while she did so.

Question for Havok83. Was eurazn's image the one you wanted for #17? Because that's Northstar, not Hellion.

LoL, whoops, my mistake as well. I totally thought that was Hellion, too. He looks like him and there was a Hellion story right after that one in the book so I guess my memory got jumbled!

thats what thought to. I was just skimming through the issue and thought that was apart of the Hellion story. Besides Skottie Young (I think thats him) drew Northstar exactly how he did Hellion in New X-men, hence the confusion

I know the feeling Havok83. It was very hard to resist the temptation to compete seriously. You guys picked some good ones.

It's a highly addictive thread, it has to be said. There were some incredibly tough one's this time around. (I ended up dreaming about Wolverine and Jean Grey, I looked at that many pictures of them trying to find the multiple phoenix one)

Nah, I just got distracted by my life. I actually kept going in this one a lot longer than I normally do. After the first 2-3 days, someone is normally thrashing me, this one was so tight, I had to keep going.

I await the next one with interest. Despite his protesting, I suspect havok 83 will find it hard to stay away... :biggrin:
