If you had control over how your movie was produce, which five
characters would you chose to make a movie of?

Hugh, I assume you mean five comic characters, and not just super-heroes. Wow, wide range to choose from. I'll limit myself to books or characters that haven't been done yet. Let's see, in no particular order...

Doctor Strange
Green Lantern
Nexus
Grendel
and I have to go with "Samurai: Heaven and Earth"

Anybody else?

my name is not Ron, but, the Grendel choice would be a wonderfully dark, badguy type movie.

I've had a Green Lantern screenplay kicking around in my head for months now.

I'd probably pick:

Thor (animated)
Planetary
World's Finest (Batman/Superman)

and I'd love to see a Marvel Universe movie, with the CGI Hulk, Tobey as Spider-Man, Affleck as Daredevil and Hugh Jackman as Wolverine.

I say go with Marvel's Shamrock!

A female superhero without an overabundance of back story that the filmmakers could twist around as to be unrecognizable to those who do know the character and do what they will with her.

I would love to see you as a producer over an Silver Surfer movie.

The five you chosen, what would you be dead against changing for a
movie or is it hard to tell until you read a script?

Pay attention to my posts.

Whenever we have one of those threads about which obscure hero would you like to see become a bigger part in the Universe, I'm always touting Shamrock.

I remember Shamrock, she was in the original Contest Of Champions mini years back. That's the only time I recall seeing her though.

My 5 would be...

Grendel
Captain America (WW II setting)
Y The Last Man
Silver Surfer
Green Lantern

Here are 5 series that would make great movies:
Planetary
Watchmen
Crisis
Kingdom Come
Infinity Gauntlet

I have had the bare bones of a Captain America movie plot running around in my head for many years, just as I had a bare bones FF plot too. If I were a better writer, I just might try to do something with it. Alas, I am stuck dealing with whatever the powers that be do to our beloved characters. Fortunately they have been doing a pretty good job recently. Not like the string of bad Marvel movies of the '80s.

Why hasn't a Cap movie been made yet? It's sure the right climate for
one :(

Thetechnocrat:I think a IG would be a great movie.I would love to
see it done in GCI? or whatever it's called, just like the Incredibles.

I think Captain America is a wonderful idea for a movie, BUT only one thing. The central idea of his world is too convoluted right now. The movie would flop and suck because the book itself has not sorted out it's political views in the real world yet. I think what Waid and Garner, (I think), did with their version a few years back would be very cool and kept to the central idea of CA, and it wasn't too politically motivated like the recent Cap in Iraq story was.

Nah, a movie right now based on him would not be good because there would be too many stuggling forces who would want it to be a political thriller, or too far to the left, right, idealist, conservative, whatever. It's a comic book. It needs a key central idea that everyone can hang onto, but that must be sorted out in the comic book before it can go to the big screen.

I've been contemplating writing a Green Lantern movie, but the bitch of it is that who do I sell it to? Marvel doesn't buy screenplays, neither does DC, they sell the rights, or possibly handle the rights differently (in the case of Time Warner) that the chances of anyone getting to read it that matters is so slim, I have a better chance of just changing the concept to something more original, because at least you can sell that, no movie studio will produce a film based on a licence they don't own, and no licence owners can do anything with screenplays!

Off the top of my head and in no particular order:

1) El Diablo Obvious choice, considering my avatar. Only as a horror western. I enjoyed most of Gerry Jones’ modern Southwestern border-town stuff, but a movie needs the real El Diablo and it needs to be in the 19th Century.

2) Jon Sable: Freelance I liked XXX but it failed to fill the void left when the world evolved away from James Bond. We need an adventure hero and Sable had always owned that role anyway.

3) Grimjack Technology has reached the point where justice could be done to John Ostrander and Tim Truman’s protagonist and the world around him.

4) Sandman Mystery Theatre If you’ve read the title, no further explanation is necessary.

And finally, just to prove how outside the norm my mind works:

5) Night Force This Marv Wolfman/Gene Colon title has played like a movie in my head from the beginning. Why not make it so?

Sure, I'll play too...

Amy Unbounded (www.amyunbounded.com). 2d animation, Brad Bird directs and co-writes, Mara Wilson from Matilda voices Amy, Rachel Hartman is an executive producer and gets final script approval.

Howard the Duck. This time we get it right! Live action mixed with a CGI Howard; screenplay by Steve Gerber and Charlie Kaufman excises all the stuff with Man-Thing and more or less condenses the first 25 issues or so down to the bare essentials: Howard, Beverly, Dr. Bong, Paul, Winda, and even the Kidney Lady. (The Howard for President arc is saved for the sequel.)Mira Sorvino as Beverly. Directed by either David O. Russell or Alexander Payne. Filmed partially on location in Cleveland. And a restraining order is issued to George Lucas to make sure he comes nowehre near this movie!

Enigma. Bryan Singer directs, Lauren Schuler-Donner exec produces. Tempted to go with all-unknown actors, but can't help but wonder what this would be like with Ben Affleck as the Enigma and Matt Damon as Michael, since they'd have to have a gay sex scene together... :evilsmile

Stuck Rubber Baby (www.howardcruse.com). And speaking of gay sex... Gus Van Sant directs. Howard Cruse is an exec producer and gets final script approval. This probably doesn't get made at any of the major studios, but that's okay; I'm sure Lions Gate or USA Films will do it. Hell, it could be an HBO film, too. Either way, I want all unknowns. No stars for this one. This film will create stars.

Preacher. I'd condense the first half of Gone to Texas and use most of Proud Americans. I'd have partial location filming in Monument Valley (of course) as a substitute for France. My dream cast remains the same now as it was four years ago when the book ended: Val Kilmer, Bridget Fonda, Robert Carlyle, and Ben Kingsley. Clint Eastwood directs and plays the Saint of Killers. Garth Ennis co-writes the screenplay.
