View Full Version : Would you like to see the Fantastic Four as the new Horsemen of Apocalypse?

A poster in the "Acts of Vengeance II" hypothetical thread suggested that Apocalypse and/or Mr. Sinister go up against the Fantastic Four, given that Franklin Richards would almost certainly be a mutant that they'd find worthy of their attention.

Further, he went on to suggest that the FF be turned into the new Horsemen of Apocalypse... and I just found the idea incredibly delicious. Who would be War? Death? Famine? Pestilence? Could this actually work for a short-term storyline?

Is this a storyline that anyone would read? I know I certainly would, because it would be something different for both sides of the equation, and I think a lot of mileage could be had out of it.

Thoughts?

Id read it and Im not even a huge fan of the FF.

Thing = War
Torch = Famine
Invisible Woman = Death
Mr. Fantastic = Pestilence

Not sure if I like that... but Ben as War and Johnny as Famine make sense.
Wasnt too sure how Death and Pestilence fit Sue and Reed. But it didnt work for me at all when I switched them the other way

Yeah that would be great. I would especially like to see Mr Sinister getting involved with such a story as well, and even possibly with enough room, Val and Franklin and.... Doom. (near the end, maybe even assisting FF4)

I am automatically inclined to view Johnny as Famine, Sue as Death, Thing as Hulk, and Reed as Pestilence. Johnny, Thing, and Sue I can even visualize.

So yeah would be fun. Apocalypse is often touted as being really intelligent, but often his actions appear anything but (not his flaws in planning, just doing anything of note) so a situation like this could allow that angle of him to be explored.

Anyway, good stuff, great potential.

I didn't give TOO much thought as to who would get what role, but here goes...

Mr. Fantastic as Famine: He's skinny, right? :D

Invisible Woman as Death: I think she's capable of pretty deadly stuff with her powers as it is, and I think this would be a fun excuse to really cut loose with them.

The Thing as War: This one seems like the only no-brainer to me. None of the other roles fit him at all, and War fits him to a T.

Human Torch as Pestilence: Process of elimination, really. Question is, what can be done to "modify" him to make this work?

I got it...
I actually want to see this now. I think it would be awesomely different. Hell... it doesnt even have to be in a FF book.... The X-Men have so many alternate realities they could easily visit one that had the Fantastic Four Horsemen of Apocalypse.

I think Torch fits better as Famine as his flame powers could easily destroy crops and evaporate water sources.
Him as Pestilence.... hmm.... he cause people to have killer fevers?

I also feel Reed is the only one that gets stuck with the process of elimination. I dont know how he works as Famine or Pestilence.... Maybe because he's a genius he just created killer virus's. But Famine just because he's skinny?.... lol

Oh, Johnny as Pestilence is easy: just have him give his opponents a "burning sensation". ;)

Reeds mind is better suited as death.
Human Torch as famine.
Sue as War - just because it's a nice twist.
Thing as Pestilence - his skin condition.

Six months ago I would have thought this was an awesome idea, but now I think Remender's getting it right by introducing new characters as Horsemen. If you keep running through the ones we already have, eventually no one will be left "untouched."

Would be a cool What If, though.

I commend the OP for some original thinking, but I will say "no".

Bad idea, especially since Hickman is writing a very awesome FF currently maybe after he leaves the title try this idea, but currently leave the FF alone, Jonathan Hickman is making them interesting for the first time....in a very long time.

Pestilence - Reed
War -Thing
Famine - Johnny
Death - Sue

I wouldn't think that would suit them since they are more known as saviours of the planet (re: Galactus). Maybe this would be a cool revamp for the Frightful Four.

Reed vs Sinister would make for a very interesting confrontation, since Essex is a dark mirror to Reed: what he could have become without a loving family and a conscience to balance him - the ruthless, amoral pursuit of scientific knowledge above all else. And Doom vs Apocalypse would be a classic clash of would-be world conquerors (particularly if Pocy is written as strong as he was back in his debut in Simonson's X-Factor, not watered-down as he has been in his more recent appearances). Apocalypse subverting the FF into his new Horsemen and Doom then fighting to free them (as he views Pocy's enslavement of his longtime foes as a personal affront) would be a compelling story. I could see Sinister aiding Doom by supplying him with information about Apocalypse, as he typically has an antagonistic relationship with Pocy.

Heh, I'm glad this idea is getting a lot of responses. I was the original poster on the Acts of Vengeance II thread that brought this up.

It surprises me that Marvel hasn't written a Fantastic Four/Apocalypse crossover. Or have Doom deal with Apocalypse and/or Sinister. And you'd think that Essex and En Sabah Nur would have expressed some interest in Franklin Richards and his reality-warping abilities. With a child like Franklin, Essex could easily deal with Apocalypse. En Sabah Nur, on the other hand, could utilize Franklin's power to make the Age of Apocalypse happen in 616.

It doesnt have to be in a FF book.... The X-Men have so many alternate realities they could easily visit one that had the Fantastic Four Horsemen of Apocalypse.
This would be the best scenario for the Fantastic Four as Horsemen. Imagine a universe where Apocalypse awakens early and comes across the cosmic irradiated forms of the FF. In this reality, the experimental shuttle crash-lands into the locale where Apocalypse is hibernating and an irate En Sabah Nur discovers the unconscious members of Reed's disastrous expedition.

Seeing their potential, Apocalypse uses his Celestial tech and transforms Reed, Sue, Johnny, and Ben as his Horsemen. And mind you, the Fantastic Four were the 1st post-war superhero group that debuted within 616 continuity. The FF appealed to the public as scientific explorers and as New York's local heroes. Without the FF, I can foresee VERY BAD things to happen.
