Through recommendation I started reading Alias and LOVED the Jessica Jones character. Truely some of Bendis' best work.

I then started into The Pulse as Bendis said Alias has evolved into it.

What happened? It's not near as good.

I know Bendis said the lack of it being a MAX title wouldn't change it but it has. It's just not as gritty and "real".

The fact that Spidy and GG and the "heros" weren't all running around in costume I think made Alias differnt.

And now it's more of the same with a TONED DOWNED Jessica Jones. I miss the crass Jessica and in place of her we got a mom who hangs with the heros.

She seems better writtin in Daredevil, yet in Pulse it just seems more light hearted to me.

I want the old Jessica back.

She is definatly one of the better "new" characters.

Hey, I like Jessica, but have found her introduction into the main MU, well bad. Its yet another Retcon of history that Marvel has found a new fondness for.
Again I loved Alias, but having her appearing all over the place now is just another Bendis's using my favorite charaters cause I can't write others trick.
Disclaimer: this is my opinion, not fact since it is subjective.

Um, the heroes WERE running around in costume in ALIAS. We had Spidey, Speedball, Spider-Woman, Captain America and the Avengers, the Defenders, etc all running around in costumes.

I think she is still the old Jessica--she's just in a new situation. She is adjusting to a new job, a new relationship, and a new pregnancy. These are different situations, so we are seeing the character react in different ways.

Also, ALIAS was a solo title, whereas THE PULSE is an ensemble cast, which makes a difference. The first arc of THE PULSE had to not only re-introduce Jessica, but also Luke, Jonah, Ben, Robbie and Kat. The focus wasn't just on Jessica and her story.
Have you read THE PULSE #6 yet? It seemed a lot closer in tone to ALIAS. I think you may enjoy the 2nd arc more than the first.

Can I ask whats wrong with that? You complain when he writes someone wrong but when he writes a new person you complain cause he's doing it so he doesn't write someone else wrong.

I'm confused

it has made her kind of boring. or maybe i'm just thinking about the other characters.

Yes your confused, I liked Alias.. LIKED IT... I don't like how Jessica Jones, I charater that was always seemed designed to live in her little nitch of the MU, now seems to be running through all the comics that Bendis's writes. Nothing wrong with the charater herself.

Yea, I guess I liked Jessica more as a "put out anti-hero" Privite Eye instead of the happy mom-to-be who works great with others at her new Superhero centric job.

I feared Jessica would be watered down, but that's happened to only a small degree IMO.

The main thing which has made Pulse a blantly inferior comic to Alias is the delays and the fact second arc in it's literally another comic than the Pulse :(

In another comic?

I think Cyc is referring to the 2nd arc of The Pulse being a SECRET WAR tie-in.

i couldent have said it any better.....i think Bendis needs to be edited a little more. He`s still great ,but the cracks are starting to show.

Yes, second arc IMO isn't the Pulse, it's Secret Wars Deleted Scenes/Alternate Angles -_-

After all, if the War is Secret and Fury is so damned sure about keeping it that way, I doubt Ben and Kat will be writing about it...

Well, I don't think the point here is for Ben and Kat to get the story. It is for Jessica to get herself and Luke out of this situation in one piece.

the Pulse version of Jessica Jones is nothing like the one in Alias. She's basically "Generic Marvel Female who quips" now.

that description, strangely enough, applies just as well to Kat Farrel. i think the whole series needs to go back the MAX line and, maybe, get another artist. Maleev maybe. he kept Jessica looking like the Gaydos version.

Almost all Marvel characters make quips, male or female, so I don't think that is exactly fair.

Anyway, she is still the same character she was in ALIAS. She is just in a different situation now than she was before, and she is happier than she used to be. Her life is more positive. But she is still the same person.

. . . and, maybe, get another artist.Lark should help with that when he comes on in a few issues.

She was going that way in Alias anyhow. Her relationship with Scott, stopping drinking, dealing with her issues with Kilgrave, rebuilding her friendship with Carol and making new friends in Cap and Matt, all were positive developments which were making her a less bitter and more optimistic person.

I collected the entire ALIAS series. In some ways, it reminded me of DC's excellent CHASE series from a few years back.

I wasn't thrilled about the announcement of PULSE, and to date, PULSE hasn't been as good as ALIAS. When this arc ends, I plan on taking the series off my pull list...and will only buy it on an issue-to-issue basis (if it looks good, I'll buy it...otherwise, no).

I don't mind the changes in Jessica's life, but this new series seems to be lacking focus. I'm not sure what to make of it...and I can't see it lasting more than another year or so.

I friggin' LOVED ALIAS, and I agree Jessica's been massively watered-down in THE PULSE. Part of it's the art, but Bendis is definitely writing her differently. One would expect some changes due to the pregnancy, of course, but she just seems.. much more generic somehow.

Oddly, I think it's the lack of the harsher MAX elements. The sex, violence, booze and swearing are associated with her but aren't noticed. Take them away and her "unique" attributes seem missing. It's like writing a Punisher wedding story. It would still be Frank but take away the setting and he seems less Punisher-y. I haven't noticed much difference myself, and the Secret War tie-in has her in the PI mode from the first Alias issues. Running around desperately seeking the face behind the conspiracy, just without her getting drunk, sleeping with Luke or swearing every other sentence.
