Tim takes a close look at one of the best stories of the year - and maybe the best Wolverine story ever - from Marvel'sStrange Tales II" anthology by the amazingly multi-talented Rafael Grampa.

Grampa is amazing. Really love his take on superhero costumes.

This article has convinced me to buy Strange Tales, just for this story.

Ditto.

I'm a MASSIVE Wolverine fan and I always buy all his books but I usually skip over these anthology comics. Yes, the hairy Mexican wrestler look Wolvie is sporting on the cover did intrigue me but I really didn't think twice about NOT buying this book. Now that I've read this article, I will be picking up this issue first chance that I get.

I was lent this by a friend. I'm a huge fan of both Nick Gurewitch (Perry Bible Fellowship) and Kate Beaton (Hark! A Vagrant), and both put in great strips here, but you're spot on that the Wolverine story is in another league entirely.

Rafael Grampa's artwork, both composition and style, is wonderfully refreshing, and the story is suprisingly layered.

I hope Strange Tales will keep selling, so that we get to see more of these kind of works.

Tim!

Thank you. Yesterday was my now Once Monthly Day at the FunnyBook Bodega and I've now read my copy of Strange Tales II #1 at least three times.
I snagged it off the shelf on your awesome recommendation. A Comic Worth its Weight in Stories, art, effort for its $4.99 cover price. Only two adverts on the back page!
The Nicholas Gurewitch at the end is killer but the Jhnonen Vasquez took me by complete surprise!
The Dazzler piece was a low light but there had to be at least one or two in the magazine. It's not bad but Allison spends a lot of time lying down, bleeding for me. A lot like the Caldwell work with Wonder Woman in DC's WEDNESDAY COMICS...stellar art & interpretation but a lot of WTF for me. But hey...
The Silver Surfer by Frank Santoro really nails what it meant to like Silver Surfer in the first place. Make it always something to look at but the story is accessible yet alien. Good short stories.
Red Skull cracked me up. The Frog Man WAS Fabulous! And Dash Shaw's SPIDER-MAN needs a few more earnest reads but the last page isn't that actual interview dialog from Tobey Maguire himself? I like Funny in my FunnyBooks...as Frank Zappa once asked, "does Humor belong in Music?"

I like this...it has everything BUT continuity. I'm beginning to really like the Continuity-Free stuff these days. A Food Metaphor would be Salt-Free or Low Sodium...heart-smart cooking but iDigress...I'm also a chef. ^_~

I believe I'm "on the hook" for #s 2 & 3! Huzzah! Thanks Tim!

crea shakti,
Rev. Sully
