View Full Version : Doctor Nemesis Appreciation

This character has done phenomenally well for himself considering his very obscure start.

He was first published by Ace Magazines (a defunct Golden Age company) in Lightning Comics 6, April 1941 appearing until 1943 (If anyone collects Project: Superpowers this is the same company that Lightning, the Sword and the non Quality comics Magno appeared in)

Revived in 1993 to be a bad guy (Dr Death) in an Invaders mini series along with several other public domain non Marvel Golden Age characters, he was tied to the origin of the Golden Age Human Torch, giving him a solid Marvel connection ... if he hadn't been killed of that is!

But somebody liked him as it was revealed he'd survived and he was brought into the X Men franchise. So as a co creator of the Torch and part of the X World, the Doc is the ultimate success story considering he wasn't even a Marvel character to start with and he's survived one attempt to kill him off!

So for anyone reading this - did you first encounter the character through the X Men and did it encourage you to seek out Golden Age stuff like the 1993 Invaders mini etc because of it or are you someone who was into the Golden Age and bought X Men because of Dr Nemesis?

Personally i'm into both so i found it very cool to see an old Golden Ager i'd previously thought dead and gone, return in the X part of the MU

So not a lot of love for the character? Well this is an appreciation rather than an amiration - after all Red Skull is somebody's favourite character!

I want to see Dr. Nemesis shirtless at some point.

Agreed, the Nazi should die, I am tired of him getting a push.

He is fun. They should bring in The Thin Man too.

The Thin Man is an excellent character - he's a bit like Dr N in some ways except without that nazi period.

It's interesting though because James Bradley became fervently anti nazi shortly afterwards to the point that he spent the next almost 70 years fighting nazis, so i'm sure there's some interesting back story there.

I'm not sure if I like his new costume.

I really love his regular outfit. It makes him look so badass.

It's like Dr. Nemesis came back from a Emo JRPG. The change is quite drastic indeed. It's like he's awhole different character, which is not good for personal identity.

Yeah, I think his new costume is a bit too radical of a change, although clearly his old costume doesn't fit with the group.

They really need to retcon his Nazi past.

Just finished up X-Club. Nemesis was, by far, the star of the book (pun intended).

It's got me wanting more. Good thing he's in CaXF.

Anyone read the Invaders mini from 1993 by Roy Thomas? I think that is where Nemesis made his "Marvel" debut (His first appearance being in the 1940's Lightning comics).
