Anyone made the switch to Digital comics??

Just wondering what other folk's opinions are on switching from paper print comics to digital comics.

I've got a relatively small comic collection approx 1,000 and have always been a fan of paper print as opposed to digital due to the fact that you can actually hold the comic in your hands and you actually have something to "own".

Having said that I've recently been finding that back issue comics (which I collect mostly) are becoming more expensive and harder to find. For example I've really been enjoying the Punisher Max comics (In The Beginning, Mother Russia etc) but the next few issues that I need I can't get on ebay and my local cbs have some of them but they are quite expensive.

Then I did some research and found that you can get hold of digital comics unbelievable easy and in most cases free.

Digital comics also don't take up the floor space that long boxes do!

Have any of you switched from print to digital comics? would you recommend it?

Interesting that you mentioned Punisher Max...I came across the first 60 issues on .cbr format, quite enjoyed skimming through, then bought the actual floppies on eBay. I must add I got them well under cover-price in NM so you might want to explore that option on eBay if your lcs is still charging between $3-4 a copy (I got them closer to 80c each with bags, boards).

I haven't made a switch to digital but do find it a useful means of looking through an issue and then deciding whether or not to buy the actual books. My dealer doesn't mind when I look through books (I get to borrow them overnight actually) but sometimes it's more convenient browsing on a large widescreen monitor to preview potential buys.

Because none of the comics I read are (legally) available in a digital format yet. I am hoping that improved variety is coming to the digital market eventually.

I still prefer reading comics in print, but for the right price, once the comics I read are available digital, I will go digital.

No. I'd rather have them in a printed format than have to sit at a computer everytime I want to read a comic book.

I have started scanning some of my comics onto digital, and I got a 10 inch internet tablet for a pretty good price recently. I carry it to work, and I read some comics on my lunch break, for example. Works really well for me.

I occasionally like to grab some stuff for the iPod but I'm still mainly reading in print.

If they start putting out comics closer to release date with decent type of deal, I'm destined for this. I'm all for .cbr files but it's just illegal downloads aren't as dependable as getting a subscription. I'll keep stuff like Deadpool and Morrisons Batman and Bendis/Brubaker Avengers but I'd get most of the rest digitally to save space.

Because seriously, no joke- I wish I lived in a bigger place. 3 years of a Wednesday weekly thing piles up..

hi BadBoy House; i think there are advantages in both. i mean when you look at comics in a digital medium like on your computer everything looks larger than life and i like that. i mean nothing beats holding comics in your hand, the feel of the paper, the smell (long as its a pleasant one!) and flipping the pages, hungry to devour the story.

but digital is also cool because you dont have to worry about damaging the comic, you dont have to worry about bagging and boarding the comics, or comic boxes piling up in the basement, attic or bedroom. and its also easier to find a digital comic than a paper-based one, especially when it comes to much older comics pre-70s.

so i like both.

I've gone totally digital. I've got tons of Marvel PDFs on my iPad (from the GITCorp DVDs). Mercifully, the latest version of GoodReader allows me to read them without the annoying Marvel watermark. I also use Marvel DCU on my iPad through Splashpad. And of course I buy digital comics directly on my iPad through various apps run by ComiXology.

I don't do paper anymore. No more space.

I can't even get myself to read through Freak Angels, and I have tried to force myself to do it. I'll probably buy the book. I just don't like reading comics on the computer. I do read Ralph Snart, only because it's not available in print. There are some webcomics that I follow. I can do a couple panels much easier than 20 pages. As far as back issues go, I find they are more often than not cheaper than the digital comics. Also, a lot of what I read simply isn't available in digital.
