Why so little love for Azrael?

I liked it but didn't love it. Towards the end things got way too heavy with the mystical stuff for a supposed Bat-book. Crusader flies around blowing stuff up with his mind. Az was bullet proof and basically had an anime energy duel with Fireball out in the desert. It might have been better if the book were more its own thing.

The backstory got rather convoluted. So, apparently the Order of Purity is a multi-faith sect within the Order of St. Dumas, which is a splinter group of the Knights Templar, but it secretly serves Ra's Al Ghul? The Order of Purity's Azrael is separate from the Order of St. Dumas's.

Also, at this point the "holy grail is actually the bloodline of Jesus' descendants" is a rather cliched surprise revelation. It would have been interesting to see things connect in some way to the The Chalice (which I haven't read) where Batman actually has to protect the Holy Grail. At least there the "destiny tied to Batman" tagline would make some sense.

I'd like to see Azrael and Crusader show up again. Maybe in JLDark, even if it's just as a villain, in the latter's case.

We already have Jason Todd for that Crazy Bat, so Azreal seems a bit redundant.

I'd like to see a brand new Azrael, who was brainwashed by an ancient cult to be a superhero. Simple enough premise to explain.

He broke free of their control and fights against them while investigating crimes that have to do with religion in some way (this can range from serial killers carving Bible verses in victims to suicide bombers).

Maybe just a hint of supernatural overtones but not too much or it turns people off.

Also, as a result of his mental conditioning, give him a sidekick (could be a conscience) only he can see. Total Dexter rip, but make the character a giant talking demon with more humanity than the central character and its gold.

Um, what? No. Jason in RHATO doesn't deal with remotely the same themes and religious ideas as Azrael. Jason never has.

I'm all for the return of Michael Lane. I loved the Azrael run when it turned into the Da Vinci Code. I hope he survived Flashpoint and I hope he's not the evil Batman Morrison has with Talia. And to agree with an earlier poster. David Hine got screwed.

I was playing DCU Online and fought against Trigon(?). The mission was called seven deadly sins, basically demons feed off of the sins while making them bigger/stronger the human host becomes more corrupt.

I imediately thought of Azrael (ML). I hope when he returns we can have an arc focusing on this.

I have all 100 issues plus the mini, annuals, marvel xover, and the plus comic of JPV

I got the mini 2 annuals and all 18 issues of lane.

Either one I am happy with.

thats honestly not a bad idea but it would have to be done to where ML still sees himself as a man of faith and possibly explore ML being Jesus' descendant.

I don't see that working to well. After the Ra's mess.
Lane at this point could easily kill JPV. Not to mention the Crusader.

I had no idea who either Azrael was until Arkham City which forced me to read some back issues.
