Which MU character do you feel has the best supporting cast and why?
Black Manta

I don't think anyone at marvel really has a good supporting cast. Spidey's cast never worked really well for me. DD has Foggy and Karen page, not so great. Iron Man has Pepper and Hogun.
This is probably why the team books work so well. The other heroes end up being the supporting cast. This hides the weak casts Marvel generally have. Of course they are true gems are far as Jarvis, Rick Jones, Wong. But these are singular supporting characters, not a cast.
Hulk.
Marlo, Rick Jones, Betty, Samson, Ross, Clay Quartermain, Skaar, the list goes on.
I know not all of them are still involved today, but I think overall, he had a great cast of characters.

Wolverine. He has a whole lot of X-Men to fill his covers.

What do you think are the tools needed to develop a great supporting cast?

Daredevil, because it includes Dakota North.

Captain America (current volume by Brubaker):
Steve OR Bucky (depending who is CAP at the time)
Falcon
Sharon Carter
Black Widow
Nick Fury
Clint Barton (at times)
Reading through Bru's run, these characters are always compelling to me. I care about what happens to them, what they are doing, etc... They're not just window dressing. When Falcon is in a scene, you know he's there for a reason, not "let's throw another super hero in here just because". I was never a real Falcon fan, pretty much ambivalent to him, but now I really like him, directly related to this book, so that says a lot about a supporting character. *Same as how I'm now a fan of Maria Hill due to Fraction's usage/potrayal in Iron Man .

I'll say Moon Knight because his s.c. is very 'hands on' when it comes to tasks, as opposed to staying completely out of harm's way.

Wow. I can't believe that nobody said Spider Man yet.
That cast is full of folks that you care about.

The idol of millions, Ben Grimm, has the best supporting cast.

Tony Stark was around for eighteen issues also, and was handled remarkably well for it being post Civil War.
Anyway, I like Daredevil. Though you almost have to give it to Spider-man for JJJ alone.

Just a note, I already knew what some of the answers were going to be, but I was sort of also looking for the reasonings behind them.

I would have said X-men but they kept getting killed off so I guess the best supporting cast at the moment is either Spidey or Captain America.

Easily Moon Knight.

Iron Fist
- Misty Knight
- Luke Cage
- Immortal Weapons
- Lei Kung the Thunderer
- Colleen Wing
- Jeryn
I second you..what can be more cool than all these characters in one book...Luke cage bring the interesting dialogue same as misty knight as the love of his life. Jeryn is like Daredevil's Foggy to Iron Fist handling the business aspect of rand corp..Immortal Weapons they always ready for some action so as Colleen Wing who is also cool
Though is also cool to see Iron Fist,Dakota,Echo,Foggy,White Tiger supporting Daredevil. Without them esp Foggy Daredevil wont be that great they more the book more interesting.

Top Five
And I tried to limit this to purely supporting cast, not villains, not costumed allies, just friends, co-workers, informants, etc.
1. Spider-Man
Aunt May, Flash Thompson, Harry Osborn, Mary Jane Watson, Liz Allan, Betty Brant, J. Jonah Jameson, Robbie Robertson are the classics, and along with others (Amy Powell, Carlie Cooper, Michelle Gonzales, etc.) provide lots of story material. R.I.P. Gwen Stacy, Captain Stacy, Ned Leeds, and Lance Bannon.
2. Daredevil
Foggy Nelson, Becky Blake, Dakota North, Ben Urich, Turk, and Grotto. I miss Rosalind Sharpe (and Liz Allan Osborn for that matter) from Kesel's run. She was an excellent addition to the cast and gave the book a new dynamic. I've always thought this book needed a talented, crusading District Attorney character to act as a courtroom sparring partner for defense attorney Murdock. She or he could be a fan of Daredevil and have a dislike for all defense attorneys. I'm surprised someone like this hasn't appeared yet. R.I.P. Karen Page and Heather Glenn.
3. Power Man & Iron Fist
Misty Knight, Colleen Wing, Jeryn Hogarth, D.W. Griffith, Harmony Young, Claire Temple, Bob Diamond, Yu-Ti the August Personage in Jade, Lei Kung the Thunderer, Lt. Rafe Scarfe, Ward Meachum, Jennie Royce, and Joy Meachum. Speaking of variety, this may be the richest supporting cast in terms of story potential in all of comics.
4. Moon Knight
Marlene Alraune, Jean-Paul "Frenchie" DuChamp, Bertrand Crawley, Gena Landers, Samuels, Ray Landers, and Detective Flint. R.I.P. Ricky Landers.
5. Hawkeye & Mockingbird
Dominic Fortune, Twitchy, Bangs, and London. They're all new and so it is too early to tell if they'll stand the test of time, but they've got plenty of potential. We don't even have their real names yet!

Captain America does right now.
Bucky has OG Cap on his side and Black Widow and Falcon and sometimes even Namor.
Not to shabby for a guy who has been dead since forever and a day.
Iron Maiden

At one time, you could say the Fantastic Four since many characters were introduced or floated through the series. Many were spun off into their own series. or some just faded from use. In no particular order:
1. Wyatt Wingfoot....Johnny's friend and classmate who's pretty much disappeared
2. Alicia
4. The Inhumans. Cystal and Medusa were even members of the team for a while
5. For as often as he appears and his relationship as Valeria's "uncle"/godfather/midwive, Doctor Doom is a long standing supporting character.
6. Nathaniel Richards....appeared quite a bit in the DeFalco era and now revived by Hickman
7. Agatha Harkness, Franklin's nanny
8. Scott Lang...although he turned down membership, he was a regular during the Defalco years
9. Lyja, Johnny's wife and also a team member
10. Valeria....has been playing a large role lately
11. Franklin...spent time aged into Psi Lord, now is showing some much needed maturity by Hickman.
12. Black Panther...periodic guest appearances and friend of the family
13. Kristoff Venard...also spent time with the team during the DeFalco era and may be returning in issue #583
14. Namor....another who spent a lot of time with the team in the DeFalco era. Still has a bit of a contentious relationship with the team but is mostly an ally.
15. Hickman's recent addition of the Future Foundation. You have Dragon Man, whose IQ was boosted by Val and the Powers Children. We may see them used more in Hickman's run.

Daredevil - Foggy, Dakota North, Black Tarantula, White Tiger, Ben Urich. Throw in Kingpin, Cage, Danny Rand, Elektra and lovable rogues like Owlsley and you have pure magic.

Well the WCA in Hawkeye & Mockingbird show potential especially Fortune. I got to give it to Spidey though JJJ alone should be enough.

Deadpool used to have my favourite supporting cast. But new writers don't really use them...
Wade and Blind Al's relationship back in the Joe Kelly days was really interesting. It was sorta like a twisted version of Peter Parker and Aunt May. But it was much more complicated than that. Blind Al was Deadpools prisoner... and mother figure. Really strange, unpredictable relationship. One minute Wade would put her in the "box", which is basically a torture room... the next minute he'd be crying into her lap about how fucked up his life is and she'd be playing the mother figure.
Also gotta love Weasel, Bob Agent of Hydra and Taskmaster.

I have to go with Captain America as well. Another one, if we can throw in an UU book, is Ultimate Spider-Man.
MJ
Iceman
Kitty Pride
Human Torch
Firestar
Gwen Stacy
J Jonah Jameson
Aunt May
Nicky Fury
Kenny "Kong"
Harry Osborn (now deceased)
Spider-Woman
Flash Thompson
Probably has the best supporting cast of any Marvel book at the moment and the only reason why I still pick up some Ultimate titles. Captures a lot of the greatness that is no longer in the 616 Spidey book with its famous characters.

I know this is a Marvel thread, but Id have to say that Batman hands down has the best supporting cast.
I would probably have to pick Commissioner Jim Gordon as the best supporting non-superhero character. Alfred would also be on that list.
For Marvel, I think I'd have to go with Iron Man or Hulk.

Spider-Man. His supporting cast is so much a part of the book and the character that its hard to even think of any other supporting cast that adds more to a character. Mary Jane, Aunt May, JJJ, even Uncle Ben....great characters on their own, no need for Spider-Man to even be there.
