Has it ever been shown how the Green Lantern Corps reacted to an entire planet being destoryed, or was this before their time and more the Manhunter period?

Just a question that popped into my head, it would of been an interesting scene or story to see.

Don't know if it is in current continuity but there was a story explaining why the GLC couldn't stop it from going boom and/or there was a great plan to produce the Greatest hero of the age - Kal.

Giving all the crises and retcons - who know. Someone probably has more detail.

I believe Tomar Re was suppose to stop their sun from going nova/supernova, but something got into his eyes (I'm serious), and he was delayed.

I also remember Kal-El was suppose to be the greatest lantern, until the whole Krypton exploded thing. Don't remember where it was brought up, but it's been hinted on repeatedly.

Haha, that's pretty hilarious.

-"Well, alright, ok, i confess, i was maybe a wee bit late on this one but come on, do you know how painful dust in the eyes can be ?"

What had happened was that Tomar was going to try and save Krypton by mining an ore called stellarium, which would absorb the tetonic shockwaves and thus stop Krypton's destruction. He was on his way back to Krypton when a yellow solar flare occured, thus blinding him temporarily. Flying blind, he gathered up what stellarium he could and was almost to Krypton when it exploded, just as his vision returned.

As much as I love Silver Age silliness, that's one story I can to without. Given Krypton now has a history of galactic conquest that the Guardians were clearly unable to stop, they simply didn't have a GL or the Guardians watching over them because as Tomar himself points out in the story, it makes zero sense that the Guardians wouldn't try to evacuate the planet, but instead just send a lone lantern to do the job.

Well, post-crisis Kryptons explosion was a natural diaster (though fueled by an old war). It'd be understandable if they didn't know until it was too late. In World of Smallville we saw the GLC fighting Manhunters who were trying to intercept Kal els rocket because they knew how powerful a Kryptonian could be, and that fight was why Clark had already landed by the time the Manhunters got to Earth. Action Comics Weekly also showed that the ringg contacted Clark before Hal, but Clark was disqualified because he wasn't a native of this sector.
