View Full Version : Should Spider-Man have a love interest in the super hero community?

I ask this because Spiderman-man to me in recent years has a pretty weak love interest. So I was thinking why not have him date already existing heroines like Ms. Marvel, Spider-woman, or others. Just as a game changer I mean worked for Ultimate Spiderman when he dated Shadow cat. Give your thoughts or another realionship Spidey could go for.

Why not? After all the agita gone through to get him single again, I would hate the only result simply to be for Spidey to have a "girlfriend" again similar to what we have seen before. Let him date Carlie and, when that goes south, it would be nice to see him do more than just flirt or go out on one date with Ms Marvel. Or one of the other super-powered hotties in the MU.

I think Brian Reed writes good Spider-Man/Ms. Marvel relationship stories.
I'd rather not see Spider-Woman as a love interest, though.

Word, Spider-man needs some one that can press at least 10 tons like MJ said.

The Silver Sable! or revive Jean DeWolf whatever.

I'd like them to go somewhere with the whole Ms. Marvel thing they kinda built up.

Yes, because after ASM 642, he really shouldn't feel comfortable going out with anyone not a superhuman.

A cool love interest to Spider-Man not exactly from the super hero community but with super powers is Black Cat.

Respectfully, what was the point of going through the whole rigamorole of breaking up his marriage just to give him a love interest? I thought that the whole point of erasing 20 years of continuity was to make Peter have fun! I saw until they restore continuity again. Keep Peter, and let him be a lothario who can't keep his fly zipped. Personally I wouldn't wish the current rendition of Peter Parker on my worst enemy.

Well that's a fair bit of an exageration isn't it? He's had a one night stand and he's been sleeping with his ex-girlfriend, not exactly going crazy on the man-whore front :-P

Same here. Jessica Drew was born in the 1920's. I don't see her and Peter Parker having much in common.

Count me in the "I'd like to see him date Ms. Marvel" crowd. I think they have good chemistry, although I don't think they'd ultimately work as a long-term couple.

I find that a lame and done-to-death-and-revived love interest.
Ms Marvel would be cooler and is already half-way established. Mayswell make use of the new status.

There was a letter in the letter column a few issues back where some guy mentioned he liked it, as well as a few other things and Wacker replied that everything the guy mensaid he liked will be visited again in the coming issues so it could happen.

The Jean DeWolf isn't going to work I think a character like her doesn't necessarily need to be resurrected. Besides we have that Detective who is friends with Spidey in the current book. As for who I think Spidey would be great with it would be Ms.Marvel as well.

To address the Spiderman and Spider-woman relationship, I placed that in the thread because I enjoy the interactions they had with each other in Bendis's New Avengers and Avengers books. I'm not saying they should be a couple just to see them on a one time night date and yes I'm aware of the age difference but that didn't stop Sharon dating Steve. Plus it would be interesting to see Spider-woman outside an Avengers book and appear in a Spiderman once in a while.

He only unzipped it a few times (I'm pretty sure Quesada wanted this as a book accessible for children, why does he allow that thing to slip by?)

I've been pushing for a Spidey/Ms Marvel relationship since Reed started them on that road. At the very least I think they should address Carol's 'complicated' feelings towards Peter that were revealed to him after Venom took possession of her for a short time.

Yes, because after ASM 642, he really shouldn't feel comfortable going out with anyone not a superhuman.
Precisely, if his woman is as or more powerful than him, all of those concerns MJ had about him being Spider-Man being a danger to the family pretty much go out the window, as long as they both maintain enough of a secret identity in public for extended family not to be at risk. If they eventually wanted to marry and have kids, they could easily go to Reed and Sue and Luke and Jessica for advice on getting a nanny, etc., but Marvel's not going to go there so it's a moot point anyway.
Plenty of potential for humor, too... "No, it's your turn to stick around in your civilian identity and cover for me tonight... what, can you catch a plane? Didn't think so."
You know, as cool as I think it would be to see Spidey date Ms. Marvel, I'm king of leaning towards a general "no" to this question. I've noted in the last three years - actually, in the last twenty-five - when Spider-Man has been brought to interact with the rest of the Marvel Universe, it's been rather disappointing. Like Spider-Man's books suddenly go down in quality. I really didn't like American Son (or even New Ways to Die) much, but thought that the surrounding books were pretty strong. Same thing in the past whenever Peter was all of a sudden in the middle of the big event.
So if Peter's going to date anyone from the superhero community, for the sake of in-story quality, I'd like to go with someone who doesn't have a book of their own. Maybe a new character, or just someone who hasn't been used much in a long time.
Having said that, the obvious answer is Wanda Maximoff.

Now thats both intriguing and random of an answer but tell me out of all the other heroines that are rarely used in comics why Wanda. I don't think her and Wanda have much in common well except Mephisto but Spidey doesn't even remember him. That and I don't think their personalities would work well.

Put me in for Ms. Marvel too--if they're going to keep this shenanigans going with Peter and MJ, let's at least do something interesting with it.

Remember in the New Avengers tie-in to Siege, they kinda had a date already.

She Hulk and I'm dead serious. If he needs a brick and a brick family that no one is going to beat on he'd get an brick family and between the brick family and his special super power of pure love nothing would happen to Aunt May.
Plus I get a fatherly figure like Banner to get some cameo time with Pete which helps both of them out currently. Skaar gets a buddy to really joke, grow with and have fun with, like a big brother and I personally have a 4 issue mini that is awesome.

As friends it can work but as a couple eh I don't see it there too similar in terms of personality. But I would love to see She Hulk as a supporting cast member in Spidey's life.

Paperdoll.
Her new obsession will be Spidey. Why am I the only one who sees the story potential in this? Just tell me that wouldn't be interesting to see. Like a train wreck or a hurricane.

Good call. I think the relationship would be extremely interesting - Spider-Man with Shulkie and Peter with Jen Walters. All the extras you've thrown in there are just more grist for the plot.

That could create some interesting tension, if it happens I hope Slott eleaborates more on her origin.

Haha. She-Hulk is just about as invulnerable as you can get, and the Slott Machine does have experience with her. And frankly I'd rather see Peter with another hero for awhile just to shake things up. Jen could help him patent all the tech he's gonna whip up in Big Time and She-Hulk can go be in the Hulk books so as not to make Spider-Man's battles lopsided.

Kitty Pryde - I liked what Bendis did with her and Peter in USM, though I'm not sure which other writers could make it work.
Runners-up Jessica Drew or Felicia Hardy.

Misty Knight would be pretty awesome. And set up a much needed rivalry with Iron Fist.
