I'm heading to the library tomorrow to check out some DCU trades, and I was wondering what you'd recommend in terms of GL stories? I would prefer ones that are *fairly* easy to get into, as well as being quality.

Also, I may check out All-Star Superman. I like Grant Morrison, but I am typically not a big Supes fan. I definitely respect him though. Would you still recommend it to me anyway?

I welcome other DCU suggestions, by the way. Thanks!

If you see any Showcase volumes, you ought to pick them up. I'd also recommend the crossover volumes of Green Lantern and Green Arrow, featuring Denny O'Neill's legendary run on the title. In terms of new stuff, you'll probably want to check out Green Lantern: Rebirth, The Sinestro Corps War, and some of the more recent arcs from Green Lantern (i.e. Rage of the Red Lanterns, Agent Orange, etc.).

One of my personal favorites, though it catches a lot of flack from readers and critics alike, is the Brother's Keeper arc written by Judd Winick.

Awesome!

Yes. No doubt.

I would prefer ones that are *fairly* easy to get into, as well as being quality.First, DC has a Green Lantern checklist (http://www.dccomics.com/sites/greenlantern/?action=books), which is worth checking out. It has all the important books to read of the Geoff Johns run, up through Rage of the Red Lanterns. Of these, Secret Origin (http://www.dccomics.com/dcu/graphic_novels/?gn=13833) is a really great starting point; it retells Hal's origin, and introduces the Corps, Carol Ferris, Sinestro and some villains that are all over the current books. The latest books not yet on the checklist:

Agent Orange HC (http://www.dccomics.com/dcu/graphic_novels/?gn=12907)
Blackest Night HC (http://www.dccomics.com/dcu/graphic_novels/?gn=14771)
Blackest Night: Green Lantern HC (http://www.dccomics.com/dcu/graphic_novels/?gn=14592)

Older stories worth checking out:

Green Lantern Chronicles vol. 1 (http://www.dccomics.com/dcu/graphic_novels/?gn=11323), vol. 2 (http://www.dccomics.com/dcu/graphic_novels/?gn=13415), vol. 3 (http://www.dccomics.com/dcu/graphic_novels/?gn=15588) - the original, old-school stories that inspired the last 50 years of GL
Green Lantern/Green Arrow Vol. 1 (http://www.dccomics.com/dcu/graphic_novels/?gn=3754) + Vol. 2 (http://www.dccomics.com/dcu/graphic_novels/?gn=2366) - classic stories from the early 70s examining social issues
In Brightest Day (http://www.dccomics.com/dcu/graphic_novels/?gn=10192) - the stories that inspired Johns' GL run, including the Alan Moore prophecy
Tales of the GLC Vol. 1 (http://www.dccomics.com/dcu/graphic_novels/?gn=10923) - first appearance of Blackest Night's villain, plus some great alien GL short stories from the 80s
Tales of the GLC Vol. 2 (http://www.dccomics.com/dcu/graphic_novels/?gn=13644) - more great 80s alien GL tales
The Road Back (http://www.dccomics.com/dcu/graphic_novels/?gn=3758) - a great team-up with Hal, Guy and John vs. a mad Guardian
Emerald Twilight/New Dawn (http://www.dccomics.com/dcu/graphic_novels/?gn=1356) - the fall of Hal Jordan and the introduction of Kyle Rayner
Emerald Knights (http://www.dccomics.com/dcu/graphic_novels/?gn=1355) - a young Hal time-travels to the present and meets Kyle

All Star Supers would be highly recommended.

Morrison's JLA run was quality too. And his Bat run of course and his Animal Man and his Doom Patrol and certainly Flex Mentallo (though we are stretching the DCU criteria there.)

Johns' Green Lantern and Wally/Flash is quite good.

Bat classics such as Year One and Dark Knight Returns are must reads if you never have.

Justice League International trades/HCs from JMD, Giffen and Maguire. Just classic!

And SECRET SIX dernit! Any thing that says Secret Six, pick it up immediately. That includes Villains United. Do it. Do it.

Morrison's JSA run was quality too.

You mean, JLA, right? I've not read JSA, well, pretty much ever, so I could be wrong here! In fact, as a big Morrison fan, I hope I am because it'll give me something to read.

He meant JLA run. I generally enjoy Morrison's work, but one of the disappointing parts of his JLA run was the team-up with the JSA. It wasn't terrible, it just fell short of the overall quality of Morrison's JLA run.

Typo. JLA with Porter on art for most of run. Yes, that is what I meant. Big 7 stuff. Then add to it. Well done Mr Morrison.

Well, I just got back. Their GL assortment was pretty limited, so they didn't have really any of the stuff you all said. I did, however, manage to pick up both volumes of All-Star Superman, and I checked out JLA Tower of Babel.

My ventures into the DCU are baby steps, but steps, no less.
