But rather than dwelling (more than I have already) on what’s NOT exciting me, I tried this past week, in order to get out of my funk, to think of things that I do find exciting right now in mainstream comics and the first thing that sprang to mind was Ben Caldwell’s (http://purgetheory.blogspot.com/2010/07/ww-manga-blah-blah.html) YA (young adult) Wonder Woman Pitch (http://forums.comicbookresources.com/showpost.php?p=11646885&postcount=1) that’s been making the rounds (http://robot6.comicbookresources.com/2010/07/sugar-spice-and-everything-nice-ben-caldwells-manga-wonder-woman-pitch/)on the internet (http://www.comicsbeat.com/2010/08/06/ben-caldwells-wonder-woman-pitch-features-unlikely-slant/). There’s nothing about Caldwell’s fresh take on Wonder Woman that feels seen before or dull to me, it seems exciting and shiny and new and full of potential. The kind of book that could jumpstart me out of my malaise.

I would give my right arm to get this published. A sentiment only slightly reduced in power by the fact I'm left-handed.
But yeah; I need to see this in print.

I think this would be a great thing to get in bookstores for girls who aren't into comics interested in the character. Marvel had a few manga versions of their characters out, and I think Spider-man Loves Mary Jane did well. I'm not sure about the X-men Misfits or the Wolverine mangas, but it can be done.

Misfits didn't do too well, if I remember. In fact, I'm pretty sure Marvel said it did so poorly that they cancelled their manga programs.
Now Mary Jane and the Runaways apparently did well in the manga-sized digest market. Both books had very poor sales in the floppy market, but the lost income was apparently more than made up for on the trade market.
I'd actually buy copies of Ben's Wonder Woman, unlike any run since Simonson's second issue. I've been reading Kevenn's copies for years, which makes sense since we live in the same place and all. For the most part, I'm glad I haven't paid for an issue since then myself.
But I'd like to give my money to Ben Caldwell's fun, inspired work.

I think I'll keep all my appendages, but otherwise I'm on board.
In general, WW is my gateway to the greater DCU. Me happy as a Wonder-fan = me spending much more money.

This looks like such a good idea that I cannot understand why it wouldn't have been immediately seized up by DC.

I don't know, the story pitch is quite vague and would have preferred it "tighter". No Indiana Jones world traveling stuff, keep it simple. Also I'd prefer it aimed for its target audience more directly.

This has had so much Buzz in the past few weeks and I can not BELIEVE DC has not picked up on this and seen how popular it would be! I have only read good things about it and everyone that has seen the preview wants to read it! What is going on with you DC???:mad:

I've come to the conclusion that DC doesn't know what the hell they're doing. They gave the greenlight to that travesty Amazons Attack, but turned their noses up at Ben Caldwell? They must have a lot of liquid lunches at the home office.

Heck, DC is screwing up across the board these days, aside from the Bat books.
Also, I agreed with the article.

It's a good article and I enjoyed reading the discussion below it too :)
An added thing it touches upon is the need to regain some ground in bookshops/non specialist stores. Speaking from my own experience, I think I needed that step before I could "graduate" to the specialist stores. If it weren't for the graphic novel section I'd never have had the opportunity to see what was going on in comics these days. I've happily leafed through them in the comfortable environment bookshops provide, but even in a large and successful comic store like Forbidden Planet I pretty much just want to get in and out. It is not a cosy/relaxing space, though it does a very good job at appearing clean and not smelling, which is better than some comic shops I've visited.
