View Full Version : Storm and Gambit: Partners in Crime (or the return of Chris Bachalo)

From Marvel's website (http://marvel.com/news/all.13472.storm~and~gambit~colon~_partners_in_crim e).
Vampires seem to be moments away from decimating the X-Men and possibly the whole of San Francisco. Hope for victory remains, but lies a caper unlike any other. On August 25, the plan comes together as writer Chuck Kim and artist Chris Bachalo merge the heist and the supernatural in the one-shot X-MEN: CURSE OF THE MUTANTS - STORM & GAMBIT.

It's good to see Bachalo back on the X-titles- the preview pages have made me kind of excited about a one shot that will probably be of absolutely no lasting consequence and will definitely have crappy vampires in it.

No retitle necessary - Bachalo is a bigger draw for me than Storm.

This has me SUPER excited.
Thank you Marvel for providing me with a suitable artist to draw me for this storyline.
I realize C.B. isn't everyone's cup of tea, but I'm a big fan and I needed something to bring me into this whole Vamp business.
Great to see Dazzler making her routine Cameo Queen appearance as well!

True enough, but to see a well-written Storm not lording over a group of people and eating up panel space with her dialog is, at this point, rarer than Dazzler.

I like Bachalo but always thought his pencils were better suited for Generation X and other young-hero titles. During his run on Uncanny, I didn't think his style fit very well for the X-Men.

Yeah because Storm is just getting so much panel space these days and is always barking out orders to underlings who follow like mindless sheep. I think your confusing Storm with Cyclops.

I don't even like Gambit or Storm--but I will buy the crap out of this book. No questions asked.
I haven't read a spider man comic in eighteen years, but I just picke up all of SHED because Bachalo knows what he's doing.

Astonishing x-men is out of continuity and has no bearing.
No, it's not out of continuity. It's just a separate story that doesn't take place concurrently with the other stories. It's entirely canon, like it or not.
Storm is not taking lots of panel time, she gets just as much as anyone else.
I never claimed she gets lots of panel time. I said that the panel time she does get is utterly useless. She spends her time making grand claims about her own self-importance to the team and long-winded speeches about leadership and teamwork and yadda yadda yadda. The last time she did something worthwhile on-panel was in 'Messiah Complex' when she actually did something about The Marauders.
Uncanny, please, cyclops gets most of panel time in that book.
Not every discussion about Storm needs to turn into a Cyclops v. Storm discussion. What I said isn't about that at all.
Storm didn't even appear in this issue so I see no evidence to support your claim that Storm is getting lots of dialogue, panel time, and is barking orders.
I'm speaking about her appearances in Uncanny as a whole, not just in this month's issue. When ever she is featured in Uncanny, all she does is stand about and pontificate. Nothing else ever happens.

I have never heard of this guy who is writing it, but I am shocked that over the years Marvel has ignored the hilariousness of the Gambit/Storm relationship so that they can drown us in torrents of Gambit/Rogue and Storm/T'Challa suckitude.

Well, that's not true. She's been doing a nice job of posing in the background and doing counterproductive things like saving Surge from Nimrods. Before that, she saved Cyclops from a Predator X, while complaining about her commute. Before that, she broke the window of the nifty Sisterhood hideout, a very instrumental role to be sure. There wasn't a whole lot of pontificating there, but she's certainly done some of that too--usually with bad dialogue. Of course, I do agree that Fraction doesn't use her well.
Anyway, I'm not a huge Bachalo fan, but this might be fun.

Most likley this comic won't have any result on the "X-men" storyline, but a feeble way to get a great Gambit/Storm story out of it. I'm a fan of both characters (mostly Gambit) so i'm in!

No, the vampire's have light bending tech that protects them from the light. Dazzler is holding one in the preview page.
Bachalo is awesome, picking this up for the art alone.

Bachalo really likes drawing hay/straw/pencils in people's mouths.
I liked Storm and Gambit's relationship the most in the Gambit ongoing, where Storm treated him with amused disapproval and Gambit sucked up/flirted with her.

Oh and by the way I don't think those are pant's on Storm but just his stylized thigh-high boots.

I liked their sneaky kiss in x-treme x-men, just before the arena arc. Does rogue even know about it? I doubt she'd care now, her and remy aren't even together anymore.

I've never really understood the hooplah surrounding Bachalo. He's a talented artist, of course, but the massive hype he gets on here has always puzzled me. Action scenes can be a bit confusing under him
I'm more excited for the "interesting" Storm to appear again instead of the "regal, boring, sit back & do nothing" Storm we've had the last few years. Plus she & Gambit have always had an interesting dynamic
