nice album cover. A lot of my friends are not impressed by The Catalyst. I hope this album is good because I have a long time for it.

I'm not going to form an instant opinion this time. Last time after hearing a few songs off of Minutes to Midnight I posted something on here about how much I thought the new sound sucked. Now a few years later I absolutely love that album and think it was their best.

They should go back to their Bubble-gum metal formula, this pseudo- electronica droning shit they've been doing since Minutes To Midnight just isn't that good.

I can't stand the techno beats. The vocals are good though. Great lyrics. But that techno ruins it.

The new song that was released was Wretches and Kings. It's sort of like Nine Inch Nails meets Public Enemy. I like it much more.

The Catalyst is really growing on me and I really like it now.

However I just listened to Wretches and Kings and could not stand it.

I hope the album is more like the former and not the latter.

Yeah Catalyst is growing on me. Earlier tonight I saw them perform this at the VMAs.

I love Wretches and Kings. It's Public Enemy meets Nine Inch Nails.

If anything, it's closer to the former, but really it's all over the place, musically.

Not being a Linkin Park fan in the past, I thought the new album is probably their best yet.

It definitely lacks the same energy of their first 2 albums and dials down the angst, but its more immediate. its the sound of a band who desperately doesn't want to make the same album 4 times in a row, and doesn't seem to care what their fanbase might think. Nearly every song is a departure, and its more ambitious than they've ever been. They wear their influences (Nine Inch Nails and the Bomb Squad production) on their sleeves but it really works for the subject matter that ties the entire album together. The Mario Savio sample is a little on the nose, but finding a Martin Luther King speech sample where he protests against the Vietnam war was a really cool touch. The last song especially shows how they've developed as a band, and displays either supreme confidence or complete foolishness to close in such a stripped down and barely produced way.

Its telling that the people who hate it can barely articulate why they do, only that it doesn't sound like the others.

My iTunes Pre-Order arrived, and I have to say I'm impressed. I would have liked more guitars, but it's well-crafted. The first track with the Catalyst line "God save us everyone will we burn inside the fire..." was very very chilling.

Overall I like it but the album is very hit or miss for me with some songs I really like and some that I'm already skipping over when they come on.
