Hopefully the mystery/whereabouts of Samantha Parrington gets at least one line in this issue...

I agree completely!
When was the last time Marvel published a black and white book anyway? I hope these are just advanced uncolored pages.

They did one about a month or two back featuring Ares.

I think they did one OR are doing one for Dr. Strange too.........They look decent enough BUT for my personal liking this is 2010 and if I'm gonna shell out cash for these books I want em in color.

Ah, yes! I forgot about the B&W Ares comic. Good call. And they did do one for Doctor Strange, and one for Shang Chi, too. But they were all big B&W books with multiple stories in them, to mimic the Marvel magazines of the 1970's and 80's. This Valkyrie one-shot doesn't seem to be in that kind of format.

Where does it say it's gonna be in B&W?

This doesn't come out till Sept, so I'm assuming the pages just haven't been coloured yet

And considering they're not lettered yet either.

September?!!!!
Yow, talk about a preview. I was expecting this to show up within a few weeks. Ah well, I got time. I loved Val in the old Gerber/Buscema/Janson issues of the Defenders. I'm still waiting for a proper reunion of that team.
This one-shot looks interesting. Will definitely pick it up.

I would honestly be surprised if they even mentioned it.
It seems like some of the confusion between both Valkyrie's is likely to remain that way because some writers don't seem to be interested in explaining it. But them again that's a continuity thing that would probably be best dealt with in a book like this rather than say Secret Avengers but I don't think it would be too out of place there either depending on the approach.

Good to see Val get a book to herself.
I'll be getting this, though I do wish it was in color. I really don't see the purpose of B & W in this case.

Guys, I'm pretty sure the book's going to be colored when it comes out.

Could go either way. One line is all it needs. Just a one line reminder to customers that the editors can properly manage their own product. Sometimes we get it, sometimes we don't.
For example, Franken-Castle Punisher's use of Morbius and other monsters in a way that seemed to completely contradict and ignore anything that happened (and was currently happening) with A.R.M.O.R. in Marvel Zombies and Amazing Spider-Man. In the latest issue, Franken-Castle #17, Living Mummy said something like "Morbius went to talk to his A.R.M.O.R. buddies." One line. Done. Thank you. All we need. We can figure out the rest. It'd be nice if they could spare the space of one line for Valkyrie too.

I'm hoping this title will have Brunnhilde merge with Samantha Parrington upon her "rebirth". That would certainly simplify things.
I have a lot of respect for Phil Winslade for the role I understand he played in helping Steve Gerber get a chance to write a Howard the Duck miniseries for Marvel a few years back. But I'm sorry to say I've never really learned to appreciate his style as an artist, and from what I see in this preview that isn't about to change. Not too interested in stories based on obscure continuity problems either. Too bad, I like the character, but I'd be more attracted to something with more of an epic, mythic atmosphere, with artwork to match.

what's wrong with the art?
what's wrong with the art?I wouldn't say there's anything wrong with it. He's a good artist whose style happens not to appeal to me. Alan Davis and J. G. Jones are a couple others that come to mind. They're styles don't work for me, although I think they're both good at what they do. It's just that I don't like what they do.
Getting back to this particular case, there's the additional factor that I think Winslade's realistic style doesn't fit the way I see the Valkyrie character - larger than life, mythic, however you want to put it. But having said that, I've never really liked the look of his stuff, even on the HtD miniseries, where a realistic style was often appropriate, apart from Howard himself, of course.

I'm intrigued and now with Valkyrie in the "Secret Avengers", think I'll give this one-shot a whirl.

Val's an old fav of mine. I started reading comics with old Defenders issues.
Marvel has severely neglected this character, limiting her to basically brief cameos since the original Defenders ended with #152 back in '86.
Then she got replaced by a look-alike for no apparent reason by Larsen and Busiek's relaunch, before being killed as canon fodder in the Ragnarok arc in Thor.
Glad to see her back. So far, she's been portrayed spot-on in Secret Avengers and her personality from those old Gerber and Englehart issues is captured perfectly.

Let's hope so. It would be a big disappointment if it stays uncoloured

I get a vibe of the standard "Woman wronged" plot of this. I hope Im wrong. I enjoyed the valkyrie of "Heralds" and She-Hulk.
But that may just be the swill talking.

She could be Marvel's WW, but with a nastier edge.

I think it will end up being a Black and White series as the preview states Valkyrie (B&W) #1 hope that's wrong though.

she could be marvel's Xena Warrior Princess if she had a sidekick.
