Mike had so few of these available at Heroes that by the time I saw one sitting there desperately calling my name, I was out of cash! Luckily the wonderful artofmikemignola site exists so that I can purchase at my leisure. Thanks Mike and Christine! - ...BOUGHT...

Awesome! I'm going to wait till SDCC to pick mine up, though, because getting the new Mignola sketchbook is always a highlight of the con, and a great goal for the floor. But it's fantastic that people who can't attend can get it easily--and early--now! The site is so wonderful.

Hi CDM, order placed a minute ago, plus, couldn't resist the 10th anniversay book as well!
Thanks for putting this stuff on the site, it saves me having to beg the other boarders (well Marisa Smith!!!) to collect the stuff and pop in the post.

Looking forward to the new range of prints you are hinting at, my spare room has a bit of space left!

Got mine today too! It was so well-packed, I think it could have survived an explosion.

And is it just me, or are these sketchbooks getting larger and larger each year? (not that I'm complaining!) Really beautiful stuff, and another great addition to the collection.

Thanks Mignolas!

Oh this book looks great, i love the cover ... we are really starting to see Hellboy as the king of England in more and more stuff.

Like the secret headquarters print has Hellboy with Excalibur and king Arther coat of arms behind him.

I find it interesting that the secret headquarters print plays up the Arthurian legend because its signed 2001 (at least i think it is) so that would mean that mike knew he was going to be making Hellboy related to king Arthur for a long long time already.

Am i right on this? or am i reading too much into it....

On CAF I've seen a sweet Mignola sketch of Hellboy with Excalibur resting in the floating stone, dated 2001. I'd think it safe to say mr Mike has lots of stuff figured out astutely both as well in advance presumably.
Amazing huh .

Wow Kees that was fast!!!

That IS fast, seeing as though I'm one state over and still have yet to receive mine. Of course not sure who ordered first or when, but I ordered the day they went on sale and still nada. Here's hoping it pops up in the next few days.

I once awaited a ferry to be taking me to an island for attending a bit of official business, arranged on a very strict schedule ('t was a wedding). I was waiting together with a group of three others: people frowning deeply from within thick raincoats. It was a beautiful day out pretty much.
One of the people kept eyeing up into the sky where birds were flocking on and off, for suddenly going: "You can't trust them friggin' sea gulls!..." After which he started jutting and jerking himself out from his coat. Not until he came to being sort of halfway into this process, I noticed two things:
1) the person was working up a sweat;
2) the ferry was about to come in.
One of the other raincoat-people held open the door toward the boarding area for me, while coat #3 whistled a tune as she grabbed onto her nifty suitcase-on-twos to be following me in.
Then it happened: the grumpy sweatty guy appeared before the doorway exclamating a bad word encapsulated in a drizzle of spittle sprinkles. Something like "whooo rats! rats! rats!"
He had bird poo all over his damp and gleaming forehead.

They all went out within a day or 2 of each other but doesn't it make sense that it would make it to the Netherlands first...crazy!

My sketchbook and shirt arrived yesterday. Both are excellent.

My five year old said, "I know what is in the package. It's Hellboy art." He has linked the name Mignola and skulls with Hellboy. I guess he just knows me that well too. My two year old wanted to see the whole sketchbook and kept saying, "There's Hellboy. There he is again. That's cool."

My wife wants a shirt too. Off to place another order.

Christine I'm curious about something with the sketchbooks. When Mike does a new sketchbook what influences whether it will be all new material, some lesser seen stuff mixed in with new stuff, or all reprint works? Is it simply a time constraint issue, where it comes down to it and he *needs* to get a sketchbook put together, or is he planning potentially a year in advance what kinds of artwork to include?

The reason I ask is that in years past the sketchbooks were all new material; however, the last three or so have been mostly reprint. And please understand I'm not complaining, just acting as sort of a devil's advocate. In other words, is Mike perhaps planning a sketchbook in the near future with a larger amount of new work?

I realize that for the last handful of years Mike has been acting more in a writing capacity, but I'm wondering if his renewed connection with all things artistic 'chore's will also rekindle a desire for newer works in his sketchbooks.

Time is a factor and also the fact that a lot of his work is not seen by all so he feels the need to share...a lot of thought goes into The Vault's even though it is already published stuff. He just said the other day that he looks forward to doing a new original sketchbook...he also has fun putting these together...so hopefully that will be the next one but don't quote me...

Not only are the Vaults just very dandy treats, I also feel warmed by the more scarcely published art pieces to be made available. Gives me the feeling the creator having a hand in it all, instead of just publishers. (I guess I am a bit of an old sock emotionally).

However the rather fun or more 'uncommissioned' pieces seeming as if the maker was largely having a ball are very enjoyable too.

Thanks, Christine. I appreciate the reply.

On a side note, I thumbed through the latest sketchbook again last night and you're right, Christine, it is really nice seeing the b/w images of Mike's work that have shown up before (perhaps as prints, exclusive posters, etc.), but are put together all in one place. Also, there *is* plenty of new stuff in there as well. My favorite being the WWI era soldier w/skull. Not sure why exactly, but this one is a stand out.

I agree, that is a very nice touch of class. And just goes to show how personalized the wrapping and sending of each of these items is, by the fine folks at 'artofmikemignola'.

Heh...the image I have in my mind of Mike potentially personally wrapping up my sketchbook in fine paper and applying a small sticker to the envelope before sending is...well, heartwarming.
