Isn't it about time to bring out a Spectre comic again?
And I mean one featuring the real Spectre aka Jim Corrigan. :)

They should kill Hal Jordan again.

No, but it is about time to get one with Crispus Allen.

Yes, but it should be set in the 1930s and 1940s and interact with wagner's sandman and xanadu. Mostly (80%) corrigan and 20% spectre.
I've just been reading the golden age spectre archives (http://www.tradereadingorder.com/dc-comics-universe/the-golden-age-spectre-archives-vol-1/) and this has been on my mind a bit, haha.

I liked the mid-'70s Spectre run in Adventure Comics. Extremely vengeful Spectre with a twisted sense of poetic justice.

Depends, if it's a flashback to the past, then I say use Jim Corrigan, but if it's set in modern times, we should try for the new guy, which I don't like, but it's mostly because of the writing than the character. Jim Corrigan had such a nice send-off that I rather he stayed dead. Bringing him back would also run countered to the character.
In fact, if it's the past, why not do story previous to Corrigan. Ostrander hinted that there were a lot of Spectre before Corrigan including a Banshee lady of sorts. There's a lot of room for stories.

yeah, past past would be cool.
I'd love a mix of 1930s/1940s spectre finding his way (in the original issues he was pretty confused a lot - by the time he showed up again after years of dicking around in the JSA, he seemed very confident and used to his all powerful abilities)
I'd like to see how he GOT used to those abilities, and I bet that could include some finding out about his past, etc. Sort of how Xanadu is being done, except with more direct interaction (he doesn't seem bound by the time stream, which is interesting - if there have been many, why does it matter who is the spectre when?)

Allen is ok but an Ostrander like series would be great. Keep him away from the great crises where he has to be defeated by a plot device to avoid his abilities.
You can't match examples as like the one where he appears on CourtTV to cremate a mother with the flaming ghosts of her own children, that she burned alive. Then he gets interviewed for the giant Tequilla worm bottle fate of that drunk.
That works.
Use him sparingly in the normal superhero battles. Don't use him if you are just going to discard him with some magic ooga-booga.

I like Jim, but I'd be much more interested if there's at least one mantle that isn't passed back around, but I would be interested in the current Spectre showing up in a title or co-feature. The latter more than the former, since a lot of writers tend to make idiots of their more powerful characters to stretch their stories to proper length.

make it VERTIGO...i like the idea of having it interact with Wagner's Sandman from the mystery theatre series...

All the DCU Vertigo characters are being folded back in anyway, so it doesn't matter if it says vertigo or not on the cover.
I'm all in favor of these magic and dark books sharing the vertigo logo and the dc bullet, but either way they're all DC books now (see swamp thing thread.)

I would love to see a Spectre series similar to Sandman Mystery Theatre.

it's a genius idea, right? Can't believe someone didn't come up with it sooner. I thought that madame xanadu might be like that a bit, but then it started jumping ahead more.

Both DC & Marvel mixed horror & super heroes in the 70's. This version of the Spectre in Adventure Comics was written by Michael Fleisher. However it was Jim Aparo's amazing art that made the book. Fleisher's inventive & disturbing punishments of the villians were done well. It also helped that some of the backups featured Aquaman with art by Mike Grell.

They could even take a page from the recent Spectre short film that accompanied Justice League: A Crisis on Two Earths. I wouldn't mind seeing more stories like that one.
