At first it looked like Cecelia Reyes and Sage had returned! But then, no, not quite yet. Is anyone else looking forward to the story of how Charlotte Jones saved Nathan Summers? Polaris' dialogue seems really organic and natural - it's just like how real people speak. The art is cool.

Look! Hepzibah is back! Chris Claremont knows what the people want. I can't wait to thank him in the next X-Position.

Is Nathan Summers channelling Carol Ann from "Poltergeist" there, or is it just me?

That's awful. "Most excellent - An X-Men reunion!"

And whats with the art? This book is a tragic mess.

Look it's Sikorsky. Jean's always been in true love with him but has never had the chance to express it.

I should be excited by that panel. If it was any other book but this one...

Did you panic when you first saw Nathan run out, because you thought it was Rachel? I certainly did.

I wonder whose "love will find a way" in this issue? Iceman seems very reckless, considering the fact that using his mutant powers regularly will kill him.

Seriously, though. Iceman is very rude and disgusting to walk into Gramma Summers' house without a shirt, showing off his third nipple. Can you imagine behaving that way around your friend's family?

I notice that CC has made Iceman hook up with a Sage look-alike. Very reminiscent of "X Men: The End"

And what's with Charlotte wearing an X-Men outfit. She has regular clothes. No one wants to see you wearing your twat hugging spandex gurl!!!!

This reeks on 1982 X-Men nostalgia for me...the style seems reminiscent of Dave Cockrum Part Deux, and CC's writing style is slipping into his old-school mode (but not quite).

I know, I know. But Marvel didn't realise a preview for Darkstar/Winter Guard, so I had to make a post about Hepzibah's return instead. I'm sorry!

Ahah that would've been great, but it's set in 2010.

The GS artist, Mike Grell, and Dave Cockrum both drew Legion of Super Heroes in the 70s and that's how they drew. Both kind of trying to imitate Neal Adams who was trying to imitate others. Hence the similarities. I think it looks great.[/DDM]

Art's great. Grell should replace Grummet on the regular issues.

Man, I dropped this book last year, but from what I've seen of volume 2, and now this (Mike Grell is awesome, and I love X-Men/Shi'ar stories), I may have to consider picking it up again.

It is. It's also superior to the Photoshop jockeys.

Raw, unrestrained PENCILWORK, I love it. Hep is looking GREAT!

Claremont is giving us some seriously hard FAN SERVICE.

I said it in the other thread and I'll say it here -- the old man isn't even trying anymore. The dialogue here is lifeless and dull, reading more like someone's snide parody of Claremont's outdated writing than something we're supposed to take seriously. If Claremont is so hungry to work, he could at least put a little more effort into not writing like an amateur.

And purely as a pet peeve of mine, "Grandsons -- I need some help with dinner"?? Really. What American woman has ever actually addressed her grandsons by saying "Grandsons"? Have you ever heard anyone speak this way?

"How are the potatoes, Grandson?"
"Oh they're fine. Would you like some, Nephew?"

There are more subtle and natural-sounding ways to inform the reader of a relationship between characters than this.

Is your uncle a Klingon or a character out of a fantasy novel?

I've been one of the biggest critics of X-men Forever for a long list of reasons and I haven't seen many reasons to go back on those criticisms. But since I enjoyed the annual somewhat, I think I'll give this a try. If nothing else, it will be nice to have that extra printing of Uncanny 108 at the end. Call me naive, but given the legend Chris Claremont has build for himself he's more than capable of redeeming this title from the faults it's been accused of. Granted, he's dug a pretty serious hole, but stories like the annual and the hint about how Nathan was saved in the preview shows he's not leaving those plots dangling. Hopefully, that continues with this and sets things up for the volume.

Although has anybody else noticed that the Marvel Subscription page is no longer offering subscriptions to X-men Forever? Could that be a bad sign? I remember when they dropped the Ultimate X-men from the subscription page. That was a bad sign that it was going to get canceled and it did. It may be nothing, but it may be something as well.

Maybe Forever Vol.2 is just mini series format. Just read the last two issues, and I wonder if I got sick from the flu or reading this book. Maybe Marvel is realizing that this book is past its prime, and needs to be mini series format not an ongoing. I think with the subscription part looking to be done, I don't see this series going forward much further. If not I personally won't sad, but for those that enjoyed thebook I do feel sorry for them if it does end soon

Given that you've been even more critical of this series than me, I wouldn't put it past you. Hope you feel better! I think the best medicine for that may be a few new issues of X-Factor Forever.
