I wanna get in on the whole "Shadowland" event and I wanna know where to start before hand so I can get some back story and know what's going on. So should I start at Daredevil #500 and go from there?

#500 would probably be fine for Shadowland. Although if you can, I think #111 of Vol. 2 (nine issues prior to #500) is a perfect place to start, both for new Daredevil readers and establishing a good precedent for how he reached his predicament in Shadowland. #111-115 are collected in the "Lady Bullseye" trade, if that makes it easier for you.

Glad I could help. And arp's recommendation is sound, too, if you don't feel like going back quite as far. If you start with #500, you'll likely be lost with a lot of subplots going on in that issue, although it will more or less explain to you why Daredevil is in charge of The Hand. However, if you start with #111, you'll see when he was first targeted by The Hand, a look into their reasons for approaching him, and the introduction of a lot of characters who will likely play a key role in Shadowland.
#111 onward is probably your most efficient, cost effective place to start, really. Also, there was a "The List" Daredevil one-shot written by Andy Diggle that debuted before his official start on Daredevil with #501, so be sure to try and hunt that one down as well.

plus the stuff before 500 is realy really well done. it shouldnt be passed up

Yeah, I began getting DD at 500 and I've been totally fine. Although, the trades before then are great reading too. Pick those up.
