I've been watching some great movies lately, Mean Girls, Clueless, and Heathers, and I was wondering if you guys knew anymore teen comedies like them.

You might like 10 Things I Hate About You. It's Taming of the Shrew in the way that clueless is Sense and Sensibility.

That is an awesome movie actually.

It's one of my all time favorite teen movies, along with the ones ScottyQuick already mentioned.

There are also the classic John Hughes 80s teen movies, Pretty in Pink, Breakfast Club and Sixteen Candles. I'm just sort of assuming that what you're after is teen movies that really deal with social status in high school, since that's the only connective tissue I can see between the 3 you mentioned. I'd say most teen movies with female protagonists are about that. the ones with male protagonists are about sex.

Have you ever watched Strangers With Candy? Not exactly like those, but it's hilarious, and deals heavily with high school social hierarchies.

I think the best, smartest, and funniest depiction of high school I've ever seen is the '90s cartoon series "Daria" -- the complete series just came out on DVD and it's FANTASTIC.

EMMA, actually. What kind of nerd mixes up her Austen? Sheesh. And I LOVE 10 Things I Hate About You.

St. Trinians?

Oooh, looks cool. I'll check it out.

I'm trying to think of what they have in common ... Heathers and Mean Girls have that sort of dark/black humor, and they all deal with relationships in high school, parental and romantic and familiar. They're all about that time where you sort of stop giving a fuck and decide to just go forward with your life, I guess.

I never got the big fuss over John Hughes. I mean, I know without him we wouldn't have Mean Girls, but they were never the beloved nerd grails to me that they are to others.

No, but Amy Sedaris and Stephen Colbert wut!

Have you ever watched "Clone High"?

As you can see it's an animated series, but it's hilarious.

My best friend/prom date just bought that and we are going to watch it together! And I love Clone High too.

I will forever wonder if they escaped the Meat Locker......:frown:

IS Daria any good? I've seen it before, but as I'm a high school student I was just a kid when I saw it so I don't remember much. I am a fan of 90's stuff though.

OMG! I can't believe I did that! A sure sign that I need to go to sleep and/or have taken too much cold medicine.

I'm actually not a huge fan either, but figured I'd mention them anyway.

You don't know you hated it? Do you mean that you're ambivalent about it? Personally I enjoyed it a lot more than I expected to.

You have got to watch the 80s teen movies by John Hughes.

The Breakfast Club
Pretty In Pink (written by, not directed)
Sixteen Candles
Weird Science
Ferris Bueller's Day Off

...as well as other movies like Fast Times At Ridgemont High (a bit more adult), the first three American Pie movies but not the crappy follow up semi sequels and Never Been Kissed.

The Breakfast Club and Ferris Bueller are probably the best of the genre but all those others are popular too.

You know, I saw that movie first on MTV probably at age 3 or 4 (showing my age here) and was in LOVE with the Ramones. While others had songs from Sesame Street, I had the Ramones. Go figure.

Don't tell Mom the Babysitters Dead....

seriously though Adventures in babysitting is proof that the Thor Movie was horribly miscast. The only true Thor is Vincent D'Onofrio

Well, in the 80s... yes.

Now he'd be about as well cast as Russell Crowe as Robin Hood.

The Night Before is my favorite 80s teen. It is awesome and hilarious and features Keanu Reeves, the line "Your ass is grass and my daddy is the lawn mower," and the Parliament Funkadelic. No other movie can make that claim.

I also must concur on Adventures in Babysitting's greatness. As a matter of fact, I might watch it now.

What's really frightening, is when you realize AiB was filmed at roughly the same time as Full Metal Jacket.

... And no one has still listed the greatest teen movie ever?

Better Off Dead - with John Cusack
"Lane, I've been going to this high school for 10 years - I'm no dummy"

Another great one. Also, One Crazy Summer, by the same writer/director and also starring John Cusack.

I just watched St. Trinians this evening and enjoyed it lots. Loses points for Russell Brand, but thankfully he's only in a few painful scenes. The one where he is supposed to be posing as a German art dealer is a great time to go make some coffee.

D.E.B.S. is also fun if you like schoolgirl caper movies.

Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle. Another comedy classic.
Unfortunately, good teen movies are hard to come by, as the majority star Michael Cera.

It was funny in some parts. I forgave it though after the director wrote some killer issues of the Web.

I saw this... it could have been interesting, but iirc they like totally switched the main premise halfway through the film and it became jarring.

P.J. Soles -- the go-to supporting actress for 70s teen films Carrie, Rock and Roll High School and Halloween.

I also recommend "Adventures in Babysitting" and I also like "Say Anything" and "The Sure Thing" with John Cusack.
