Dark Horse has posted my Horsepower essay or editorial or whatever you wanna call it -- I think it's supposed to appear on the company page in the books in a month or two -- at its site:

The second that I read the title Dragon Prince, I thought of Melaine Rawn's series of the same name. Ever read it?

Never read it, never even heard of it.
Tell me more...

I'll keep it brief, since it is part of a six book series(broken up into two trilogies). It's a story of Prince Rohan and his struggle to bring civilization to his barely civil nation states. Dragons play a large part in his power, not that he gains power from the dragons nor do they help him, but the aura of the dragons gains him respect in the eyes of his peers.
Rohan with help of his wife(whose name I am forgetting for the moment) use political duplicity, grand ideas and out and out war, to establish a more humane society, where strength is that of the mind and soul , not one's strong arm. Magic , in the form of the Sunrunners, plays a part both for it's power psychically and spiritually. Sunrunners(which Rohan's wife is one and a powerful, eventually) are not only powerful spell weavers, but they play advisor, mystic, and basically the hand behind the society. Choosing who'll marry whom for Sunrunner abilities and power for the Sunrunner's Society. This is a very matetnal sect, though it does have its male members, which sees that its job is to mother this brutual society.
I'm sure that you can find a better synopsis goggling Melaine Rawn and trying to find her site. I will say though the books can be very long winded and at times, the heroes come off as being a bit too perfect. It is a fun and engaging read.

Or you could just go to Melanie Rawn.com (http://www.melanierawn.com) from here.
By the way, Rohan's wife is Sioned.

Thanks for the info.
At least they're completely different kinds of stories. By the way, this thread seems like the place to mention the four-page Dragon Prince preview that's in Samurai: Heaven and Earth #1. Please let us know what you think of that as well.

Not yet. And, unfortunately, not for a while.
Jeff Johnson had been sidetracked onto other work, and progress has been very slow. Nobody's happy about the situation; Dark Horse will be canceling the solicit for issue #1 (the ensuing issues weren't solicted, in case deadlines became problematic ... which they have).
Look for more concrete news in my column on The Pulse next week. I'll make sure I post a link. Thanks for asking, Dave. Everyone involved in sorry for the delay. We'll eventually get the book into your hands.

Luke just finished off the last page of #4 and has already started on #5. Jason is coloring away and I'm making a few final dialogue tweaks. I don't have a release date yet, but were hopefully looking at a few weeks away.
As for Dragon Prince, I'll have some info to announce soon. We've got a few odds and ends to put into place before we can talk about it.
Thanks!

So here's the deal with Dragon Prince.
We're on something of an "indefinite hold" for a number of reasons. Chief among them is Jeff Johnson was hired by Warner Bros. animation to work on staff for the Justice League show, designing backgrounds and props (in a weird coincidence, this is the job Dave Johnson used to have; they didn't even have to change the name on the door).
In any event, good for Jeff, but bad for Dragon Prince's schedule. We still intend to get the series done -- in fact, I was talking about it with Jeff this morning -- but it won't be for Dark Horse, as we no longer fit into their schedule. Once we get a better idea of what kind of schedule Jeff can manage on his "off" hours, and get some more pages in the can, we'll start looking for a publisher.
So you'll get Dragon Prince at some point, but it won't be in 2005. More info as I have it. And thanks for everyone's interest.
