Word is out that Marvel Studios has cast the lead female role in the upcoming "The First Avenger: Captain America" as actress Hayley Atwell has landed the part of Peggy Carter - Cap's WW2 love and aunt to Agent 13.

She was only in Millar's Ultimates. Peggy is a far more significant character in the mythos.

Last-minute swerve, then - it seemed like Alice Eve was going to get the part.

Atwell's a good actress. I saw her in both Brideshead Revisited and The Duchess a few years ago (and she's got the role of Aliena in the upcoming miniseries version of The Pillars of the Earth, one of my favourite books).

looks ok, but must admit i hoped for another actress for the role.

I'm going to have to check out the films. I said on another thread that she reminds me of Olivia Williams. In the shot on the link she does remind me a bit of Jennifer Garner. I am happy that the part went to a British actress though.
