I've been avoiding pretty much all Superman titles completely up to now, because I wasn't really interested in jumping in on the New Krypton mega arc. Now that this is finally coming to an end, I'm looking forward to June and the beginning of JMS's run.

I know a lot of other people are excited for this, but I'm wondering what else is in store for Superman-related titles. I've decided not to follow Action Comics for reasons I don't really want to get into here. But what about the other books? If I'm only following JMS's Superman, am I going to be missing out on some great stuff? Is there likely to be a lot of crossover with, say, Supergirl or whatever else?

I kinda hope that Superman will be a standalone title for the next foreseeable future. I don't really like being sucked into buying a lot of other books because they tie-in with the main storyline. Still, I'd like to stay afloat of what's happening.

After WotS, starting with Superman 700, there won't be any more tie-ins to the other titles within major storylines involving Superman. Superman will be within his title (not sure if it will be weekly, or monthly) but it will go back to a Superman story being told within 1-4 issues with mini story and one-shot arcs like it was before this whole plot came forth. Or that's how I took it.

Also, Superman: Earth One written by JMS is due later this year, telling an elseworld tale about Superman's upbringing. Going to be a great year for Supes!

That's pretty much what I was hoping.

On a side, what are people's expectations for Action Comics? Like I said, I don't plan on buying that book, but I'm curious as to whether fans are looking forward to it, or if everyone's pretty much got their eye on Superman instead.

I can't wait for #700 either! I have high hopes for the title once JMS takes over.

On the other hand, Action is going to be on probation, so to speak, as of #890. I'd like to stick with it through #900, but since I'm pretty indifferent towards the creative team, we'll see what happens.

That's great news, I've enjoyed what I read of the New Krypton arc, but I think fans deserve a breather after such a long epic arc. It will make bigger stories mean more, I think comics as a whole could benefit from this kind of thinking... well at lest Superhero books would.

What I would like to see going forward, would be after the blackest night and new krypton arcs are done with for there to be a consistent story line, that sticks to established continuity and doesn't go off into some crazy direction. I wouldn't mind seeing more normal day to day stuff, as normal as sups life gets, rather than some galactic reaching, world changing, dead rising event.

I expect it should be quite good, especially with Pete Woods on art, and I'd buy it myself but I just can't fit it in with all the other ridiculously good books DC's putting out this year.

i'm looking forward to reading Superman 700 and beyond, I'm not sure if I'm going to pick up all the superman titles after War of the Superman is over, just because of financial reasons, but will keep looking in

Personally, I'm far more stoked for Action Comics #890 than for Superman #700. Action's preview hints at the welcome end of the buffoonish, comic-relief "Super-Friends" version of Lex Luthor that Johns has been foisting on DC readers ever since 'Up, Up, & Away' and Lex's return to proper villainy as he reclaims his throne as the LexCorp CEO. I am also quite interested in Superman #700, though. I'm looking forward to both books and to getting back into the Superman titles, as it looks like they have finally gotten the the creative team and direction changes they've needed for quite a while now.

That's welcome news, too. I am looking forward to getting back into the core Superman books, but I have absolutely no interest in having to pick up Supergirl or Adventure in order to follow a sprawling, bloated crossover like New Krypton.

Im fairly new to comics and Morrison was the perfect jump on for Batman as John's was for GL and now Flash. I read some of Robinson's run on Superman..hated it! So for me this could be the perfect time to start Superman and personally i cannot wait...

Lex was comic relief during his fugitive days? Since when?

Really looking forward to JMS's takeover of the superman title. It's a long time coming and let's hope he delivers the goods.

Being knocked out by Lois Lane at the end of Last Son while in the middle of a cliched "super-villain rant," along with his embarrassing Gollum impression in Blackest Night, just to name two.

Is the JMS part of 700 going to be just a preview of the next issue when he starts or is it going to be something original that kicks off his run?

That doesn't make him comic relief.

I've been waiting for a good jumping on point with Superman for quite a while now. I've always disliked the character, but decided I'd give him a chance for at least a few issues. 700 seems the perfect time to do so.

I get the impression that it will be a prologue story to his run, but I could be mistaken though...

No, that's the impression I get too.

I disagree. Johns' use of Luthor since OYL has been to regress him into a mustache-twirling, laughably cartoonish villain who always gets a "humorous" comeuppance before being peddled off to jail, which is essentially comic relief. I'm quite glad to see Johns finally off the Superman titles and some new blood on the books' creative teams. During Lex's whole post-OYL 'fugitive' phase, Grant Morrison's use of him in Final Crisis has been pretty much the only time that he was written well, imo.

So buying 700 wont be essential to JMS's run?

For me 700 will likely be a jump off-point. I actually like the "Shield-numbering" and that all the titles interconnect, but I guess I'm in the minority. The way it is now it's like having a weekly Superman book. Granted not every issue is a hit, but I like the continuity across the titles.

Dont think much of the cover for 701, although im still uncertain whether to pick this up..still more chance of me taking on JMS superman than wonder woman.

One time does not equate humorous comic relief like you make it out to be. In "Up, Up & Away" it ends with Superman and Lex beating on each other which was hardly like the ending of "Last Son". Otherwise, Lex has been the same as he was under Stern, Jurgens, Byrne, Wolfman, Loeb, Kelly, Simonson, Kessel and in the DCAU. And it's Lex in "Blackest Night" that's giving us Cornell's run. Not to mention is not too different from his obsession with Brainiac in the final season of JLU.

I'm pretty excited for Superman #700 as well. I've also been waiting for a good jumping-on point and I usually like Straczynski's stuff. Same with Wonder Woman. July's going to be a good month. :)
