X-Sidekicks !

So I was thinking the other day, why there are no sidekicks in the X-Men? All we have are the “young girl” thing (Kitty, Jubilee, Armor, Pixie), but not real sidekicks to specifics adults X-Men. So I was thinking, who would be whose sidekick? I’m not talking about mentoring the young with their powers, we have done that before(http://forums.comicbookresources.com/showthread.php?t=289679), I’m talking about affinity within the characters the older ones and the young ones… here are my ideas:


-Hellion & Magneto: Emma would have been a nice choice but Julian and the Hellions seems to hate her now, so I choose Magneto. Hellion always has similar ideas to Magneto thinking that mutants were superior than humans (remember his speech in Academy X) and he was the one he turn to when the X-Men disbanded. I think Magneto could teach Julian lots of things and they would be great together.

-Dust & Emma: Emma, I think, is the closer thing Dust has as a mentor (not counting Pierce). I know she distance herself from her like the rest of the Hellions, but I love to see them together to defeat Exodus and Sooraya worrying about her in Necrosha. I like this pair.

-Surge & Forge: Well, he create her present gauntlets for her and told her that all of his creations has a connection. Also, they had some moments.

-X-23 & Agent Morales: I though Wolverine at first, but let’s face it: he suck at the job, so I choose Morales. Love Morales as a mother figure for Laura, and love them team up together to escape the Facility.

-Elixir & Vanisher: I love this two together. They seem to have some kind of connection, and they obviously care for eachother.

-Mercury & Psylocke: I thought Xavier at first for Cessily (because of the WWH moment), but then I remember her little moment with Psylocke at the end of her mini and I love it. They should share more.

-Prodigy & Karma: They have known eachother for years now, they were good friends even before David get to the school, so I think Shan is a good option for him.

-Rockslide & Colossus: I couldn’t think of anyone who would tolerate Santo, so I pick Piotr, when the student were having meetings with the X-Men we could see them together and there’s this other panel in DWS were we can see them training together too, so I choose him. Plus, their powers are similar.

-Anole & Northstar: Obvious choice.

-Pixie & Nightcrawler: We already see Kurt mentoring her, so also, obvious choice.

-Indra & Rogue: Read the last Legacy issue.

-Gentle & Storm: Read the Storm mini.

-Match & Angel, Sunspot, Avanlanche?: I don’t know I picked someone from the random Brotherhood Fraction created. Also, he was fighting alongside Angel in the riot.

-Greymalkin & Magma: Well, they have not share THAT much, but I love how Greymalkin sees everything as new and magical while Amara did that too when she meet the modern world.

-Ink & Dani: Obviously Dani is the only one who care for him, so it figures.

-Loa & Deadpool: Perfect combo. Love them fighting the TO zombies together.

-Trance & Wolverine: I was going to pick Rogue for Trance, but I think she fits better with Indra, and then I remember the Wolverine one-shot were Hope and Logan team up and I love their interactions.

-Armor & Kitty/Danger?: I dunno, all of the others are taken (Wolverine, Cyclops, etc) so I guess Kitty or Danger would do. They were on a team together and she has talked her issues with Danger lately.

-Blindfold & Beast: Love her handling Beast that ball to play with.

-The Cuckoos & Cyclops: Simple choice, they are loyal to Scott.

-Ernst + Martha & Xavier: Considering that they go everywhere together and that Martha as psychic powers and Ernst was meant to be the future Nova, I guess Xavier would be a great mentor for them.

-Bling! & Gambit: I would have pick Rogue, but Roxy would be horny all day long, so I picked Gambit, she was in his squad after all.

-Kid Omega & Jean: In the White Hot Room, obviously.

-Crosta & Namor: Obvious choice.

i would have to say

storm and gentle he needs to toughen up who better than storm to teach him

or gambit and marrow he owes her the life of being a superhero.

X-Men treats its teen characters as the "Next Generation" as opposed to "Sidekicks," which Avengers has more success in.

The only sidekicks in X-Men are the kids with Wolverine. Shadowcat, Jubilee, Cannonball, Armor, and sort of Pixie.

I have always wanted to see Cyclops own a dog. Not a superpowered one, just an average Golden Retriever or something. I'm not sure if a dog can be classified as a sidekick but this looks like the best place to post that :biggrin:

This was touched upon during Yost's Hellion's DWS story. Though Mags kind shut him down, though now that he has his powers back who knows, maybe he'll decide to give Hellion a lesson or two.

Me personally i think X-Man would be a good mentor in ideology. Both want to help mutants, both are some what naieve, and both a bit of cocky streak

I am ALL for:

Psylocke & Mercury - Mercury is quite fond of Psylocke. Betsy obviously see something good within Cessily, so I would love if they pursue this. Also, she can teach Mercury how to be a ninja and beauty queen (although Cess is already pretty).

Psylocke & X3 - Yes, I do love the pairing in ReLoad and it needs to be rehashed.

Storm & Gentle - I loved thir relationship in World's Apart. And she can give him a codename that isn't so gay.

Shadowcat & Cipher - I think that would be golden.

Rogue (in conjunction with) Indra, Trance, Blindfold, and (since she isn't dying anytime soon :( ) Hope. Being the marvelous woman that she is, Anna has close connection with all of these young pupils.

Colossus & Indra - Both could take out anybody with their Armored forms.

Moonstar & Elixir - If they can rekindle their surrogate mother/son relationship, that would be great.

For the most part, sidekicking is rare among the X-franchise because:

Sidekicks are mostly the province of solo heroes. When the adult doesn't have other adults to hang with and the child doesn't have other children to hang with, then they are forced to gravitate towards each other even though it doesn't feel intuitive or natural at first.

In a team, adults have other adults to hang with and children have other children to hang with. The X-family has always tended to be stratified to "classes". The class of 1963. The class of 1975. The class of 1982. The class of 1994. These groups of individuals have been (mostly) of similar ages (though there are exceptions of course) and have had each other to connect with. Because the age strata have had other people of similar age to connect with, there hasn't been much need to connect with older or younger people.
