The heroes needed a being powerful enough to fight a Black Lantern Spectre. Sinestro was more than willing to accept Parallax, but Hal wouldn't allow it so he pushed him aside and welcomed Parallax back in. Parallax was exorcised out of Hal by Sinestro and Carol Ferris once the Black Lantern Spectre was defeated.

Read the issue. It's been out for a month.

Or spend a few minutes searching the forum to find the thread about Green Lantern 50 and Green Lantern 51, which is the mini-arc about Hal becoming Parallax again.

(Apologies for being snarky, but it's not that hard to do your own research.)

I'm reading that series right now, it's pretty neat so far.
I'm just starting back into comics, sorry for interrupting.
Where can I find Hal & Parallax as one for the 1st time?

Tricky question.

Emerald Twilight/Zero Hour are about Hal going crazy and deciding to unravel the universe to create a more pleasant one.

Green Lantern Rebirth is the first story to have Parallax in it, and it tells you that the earlier stories were merged Hal and Parallax.

Thing is, this retcon isn't particularly coherent with crazy Hal's behavior. The earlyiest appearance timeline-wise of Parallax-Hal is actually an issue of Booster Gold, where the time travelling heroes meet a version of Hal-during-Zero-Hour who rants about wanting everyone to feel fear.

just read green lantern rebirth. its about hal jordans return and how he was possed by parallax. the actual older comic with him calling himself parallax(which was retconned) is not very good.

Rebirth is pretty well written for what it is and has decent scripting and character moments, but it still suffers greatly from being an attempt to forcefully squash continuity into a better shape rather than a particularly coherent storyline.

agreed 100%. johns might be the best retconn writer around. but he still has to retcon stuff to make his ideas work. so he is lowering the credibility of past writers hard work to make it easier for his own to stories to slide by

Thanks Daveageallen & Omegalith, I suspect I should read that 1st before I continue reading anymore of this series.

agreed 100%. johns might be the best retconn writer around. but he still has to retcon stuff to make his ideas work.I don't think he feels he HAS to squash continuity. Continuity gets rewritten every 5-10-15 years because it's necessary. Johns is just the guy DC trusts to do it.

so he is lowering the credibility of past writers hard work to make it easier for his own to stories to slide byMan you must have REALLY hated the post-Crisis DCU then. Since for a large part it was rewriting old DC continuity to make the new stuff "slide by".

Actually Rebirth is probably the most well written and well executed Retcon i've ever read, it made sense of a horrible written story that was ET. And put together alot of different threads and tied them up very nicely with one bow, to this day it amazes me how Johns was able to pull it off so well considering the cluster that was done to Hal for the past few years.

The key problem is it reads like a writers checklist. Off the top of my head (in no particular order) it did the following:

1: Get Hal back alive
2: Resolve "Hal is the Spectre" plotline
3: Get Guy and John back in the game
4: Get rid of silly "Guy is half shapeshifting gun-alien" plotline
5: Get corps back in place
6: Give Kyle enough screen time so as not to undermine him
7: Raise Sinestro from dead
8: Absolve Hal of "Successfully destroyed the universe" karma
9: Establish Sinestro as having actual villain cred rather than being a purple Dick Dastardly
10: Foreshadow planned events for years to come
11: Explain how all but one of the Guardians of the Universe being only five years old isn't going to effect anything... no wait, he forgot that one.

Again, it's well written, but it has to cover a lot of ground and resolve a gargantuan knot of tangled continuity in a limited space.

An equally valid (note: I'm not necessarily saying superior) tactic to take would be to take the big continuity stick out of their bum and realise that this is new Green Lantern stories starting from a new issue 1.

Combine this storyline with the later six-issue Secret Origins storyline and write a twelve issue story that covers an abridged history of the corps and their place in the universe, The careers of the earth lanterns, and the place the new series has in current DC continuity. It would still cover the whole Parralax and reborn Hal thing, but without bothering to even address stuff like Guy's Vuldarian DNA, 'cause the clutter and chaff could be jettisoned by a soft reboot.

Geoff Johns' method worked just fine, but there's really no need to make continuity beyond the current run of comics some kind of holy grail.

Checking out some of the preview art of the upcoming JLA/JSA teamup, it looks like we're going to be seeing *more* of the Hal version of Parallax in the near future...but in what capacity, we don't know. Undoubtedly, however, DC is not planning to return Hal to full-time, long-term villain status, so I guess we'll see just what sort of weird circumstances set Hal up for another brush with being Parallax.

I'm...befuddled as well. It's either Hal as Parallax, Alan in his Kingdom Come armor, or...something.

The chest emblem indicates Parallax, from what I've seen. The sword implies Scott, though.

I expect that it's going to be Hal, though, and that it was supposed to be a twist.
