I'm so exited about the Superman/Batman annual.

I knew Guggenheim was taking over Action Comics, but seeing Pete Woods name surprised me. Was this already announced and I just missed it?
Either way, can't say I'm thrilled with the new team. I'm hoping the Super-books stay self-contained, at least for awhile, so I can enjoy Superman and Supergirl without having to pick up Action...

LOL. I think this forum should be merged with DC Universe. With not even solicits can get people talking...

Yes it's been announced and Action is the title I'm most excited about. I really liked Guggenheim's run on Flash: Fastest Man Alive (despite Bart's editorially directed death). And Woods is a consistently good artist.
I'm still on the fence as far as Supergirl is concerned. As far as JMS's Superman title, you guys can have it; I'll pass.

I am all over that Batman/Superman issue. That cover is gorgeous.

Very excited for Lex's return to Metropolis. (Though I don't know when he really left, he was just hanging with Brainiac a little)
I'm hoping the books stay separate. I hope we can get some decent Superman stories. I am also hoping Superboy will be a back up in Action by Gates....

It's a bit too early yet. All DC has got for the Superman books is yet more HYPE, and Lord knows that everyone's seen enough of that old song.
That SUPERGIRL cover is so unoriginal and derivative in conception, I'm surprised anyone even bothered making it. And frankly, another static Lex Luthor pose also says, "No new ideas" to me. Or maybe instead it's, "Hey, Marvel gets away with all these generic covers; maybe we should rip them off some more." :frown:
Oh, I'm sorry...I suppose that was the kind of 'talk' you were looking for?

I'm all over that Superman/Batman Annual. Batman Beyond? Hell yes, I'm checking that out.
Nothing else grabs me about the Super-books though. Supergirl has gone from being a terribly written but potentially interesting character to a dreadfully boring character since New Krypton started, and I see no change in course from that here. With the Legion of Super-Heroes fully taking over Adventure Comics, I'm fully no longer interested in that book. Nothing wrong with Action Comics, but I just don't care about it. I've only been reading that title because of the awesome work Greg Rucka has been doing with the new Nightwing and Flamebird. If Action Comics is going back to being your standard Superman stuff, I'm not going to be drawn in as a reader. A cover image of Lex Luthor standing around with Metropolis as a backdrop and a solicitation saying Lex is back in his usual role pretty much tells me this is your usual Superman stuff. And as for Superman/Batman, nothing really agains tit either. I just haven't been a reader of that for a long time.
I don't know. It's looking like I won't be a regular reader of any Superman titles once all this New Krypton stuff wraps up.

I'm the exact opposite. I can't wait for the New Krypton stuff to be over so I can try the Superman books again.

Well, I wasn't the biggest Superman fan to start with. I don't dislike the character or anything. But you have to do some pretty interesting stuff to get me to read a Superman book. The New Krypton stuff worked for me. Not all of it, of course. I'm not sure Robinson ever got around to telling a real story over in Superman, even if I did find a lot of the ideas with Guardian, the Science Police and Mon-El interesting. But I've really liked Action Comics with all the Kryptonian mythology and cool sleeper agents. I even enjoyed World of New Krypton for the most part, even if it did go off on too many guest star tangents.
Superman's status quo just doesn't interest me. Nothing I've ever read of Guggenheim was ever much better than okay, so I don't expect him to do anything special with that status quo. JMS... might. I may at least give JMS a shot, but I don't expect much.

I'm still on the fence as far as Supergirl is concerned.
While Supergirl has had some good issues in the past few years it should be a BIG blinking Danger Sign that the next arc is called "Who is Supergirl?"
That's a sure formula for a CRAP storyarc. The constant "who am I and why am I a hero (and I have to prove it to you, my readers) bullsh@t", a kind of story which lazy writers seem to pull out of their asses every few years, whenever they don't have any REAL ideas left.

I really, really, like that cover for Adventure Comics #12.
The Superman/Batman Annual #4 cover looks really good, also. I'm not sure if they've mentioned this in the solicitations, but is this annual going to be the set-up for the Batman Beyond series? Or is it just an issue with the same characters?
It seems Action Comics #889 will be the last issue for Nightwing and Flamebird, including the Captain Atom second feature. I hope they still keep Nightwing and Flamebird around. I'm not very surprised about Captain Atom, since he'll be joining Justice League: Generation Lost, I believe. (Hopefully Greg Rucka is starting on the Batwoman series since he'll be leaving both Action Comics and Detective Comics.)
It seems like Supergirl will be back to it's core with the Who is Supergirl? story arc

It's a seperate series from the other one. Their was an interview over at comicvine where the author of the BB series explains that their not really connected. I guess it's just they use the same characters in the annual, and the mini-series. I'm definitely looking forward to both, especially the annual with the future Superman from the Batman Beyond show!

So, is Superman not returning to Action Comics this year after the War of Supermen is over?

I believe he is, the first issue after War of the Supermen has Lex Luthor in it. At least I would expect Superman to be in it.

Really worried about the interior artwork, though. Kevin Sharpe?
No offense to the guy but I really hope he's just filling in for an issue or two. I can't see him as the ongoing artist for a book like this that's trying to build its readership base.

Agreed. I cannot adequately express how happy I am that the regressive "Lex Luthor: Fugitive Madman" era that started back in 'Up, Up, & Away' appears to be finally coming to an end.
