View Full Version : JMS's Samaritan X
Assuming you already read first page:

So it happens JMS will be involved with this verse too.
This look a fairly interesting concept, to get a point of view from the commom people what sometimes feels like a missing aspect, this idea at least for me seems attractive to have a look, it's a book that apparents to have quite a nice potential.
So here's hoping for some Gregory House treating the mofos. ;-)

I'm interested.
Even more so that it is a OGN, that way the story will be done.
Even though I am soooooo psyched for his Supes/Wondy stories JMS has a bit of a history with not finishing works...
Hopefully DC just leaves him alone and let him does his thing.

This sounds annoying. I'm glad no one ever wrote the scene where young Dick Grayson scraped his knee on a landing and cursed himself for not wearing pants. Or when Batman commando rolled and his ears dug into the ground and he sprained his neck.
If it was a Gotham Hero Hospital in the style of Alan Moores Top 10 superpolice precinct it could be fun, but it sounds more like he'll be playing Watchmen with the DCU, exposing the realistic complications of the injured superhero. The concept feels like it should naturally be a comedy

I really don't get why this is in Gotham. I don't see Batman, even Dick, wanting it in his city. There just aren't -that- many superhumans in Gotham and in Batman's rouges and allies. Why Gotham? That point is really bugging the heck out of me. Otherwise the idea sounds pretty good.

You bring up a good point.
But who would have the money to fund such a hospital, could it be Wayne enterprises inc?(Batman fans)
Would Luther fund a hospital that would potentially help aliens?
Gotham would give it that gritty feel.
Bruce wouldn't mind keeping a brotherly eye on it.
Dick I'm not so sure if he would care one way or another, he never seemed like a big picture kinda guy.
Plus even though I like Smallville, I'm ready for something on TV with Batman family.
The closest thing I know of is when they tried Birds of Prey.
I wish Human Target would have more DC stuff in it.

I agree. This makes zero sense in Gotham City. Metropolis? Absolutely perfect, but not Gotham. It's even more confusing given he'll be writing Superman.

For Luthor such a place would be a candy store where he could easily obtain DNA of aliens and metahumans to play with.

Sounds like a cool idea, but I'm also stuck asking: "Why Gotham?"
My hope is that once the book is out, there will be an "ah ha" moment and there will be a good explanation as to why this super-hospital is in Batman's backyard.

Depending on how the lawsuits work out, Metropolis is one of the Superman elements that could potentially be co-owned by the Siegel estate. As Samaritan X is a creator-owned title, it could very well be that integrating it into an established DC city that is wholly owned by DC/Warner is more easy to do that mixing a creator-owned property with a location whose legal status could change in the near future.
That being said, I completely agree that in-story logic would have that place in Metropolis before it'd be in Gotham.

Heck, forget even Metropolis, it would have been more interesting if JMS did it in his own DCU city.

Can't say I'm particularly impressed by the concept of this project so far. And I think it's odd to put it in Gotham too.
And since JMS specifically says it's not a bat-title, I'm moving this to the DCU forum.

I'm interested to see where this goes, and who JMS' patients are. I also hope that other DC doctors, like Dr. Midnite and Dr. Light show up.
And for those who think this is a original concept, 52's St. Camillus hospital predates this idea.
As I posted in the other thread covering this exact same topic.
This was already done in 52 Week Five (http://52-pickup.blogspot.com/2006/06/week-5-all-harnessed-in-gold.html), Saint Camillus Hospital in Metropolis became the first hospital dedicated to Metahuman Care, and Pieter Cross is a member of the staff.
There was also an indie comic back in the 90's called MetroMed (http://www.metromedcomic.com/), and I think there was another actually called "Superhero Hospital".

Very interested in this project. Gotham has plenty of Metas.

Fewer Metas than anywhere else, less chance of harm from collateral damage (this isn't a trauma, ER service, far as I can tell; it's mostly diagnosis and outpatient stuff).
Wayne money would be a major seed in this (but not the only one). This would be done under Bruce's watch, since these things take time.
And the possible unspoken fact is that this was a political favor pulled in after the way Gotham City was left high and dry after No Man's Land--a bone thrown to it to help stimulate the economy.

Not crazy about the concept but I think JMS (when not being jerked around) is one of the top in the industry, so I'm a little on the fence. I'll wait for the reviews.
