View Full Version : Dick Grayson & Kara Zor-El: World's Finest?

I think not. This is from the master of getting things wrong about Superman, James Robinson. He's going to make them "closer" in his JLA run, a new World's Finest, though actually shouldn't that be him and Mon-El? Yes, Kara has a crush on Dick, but that's about it. If this isn't mentor/student given her previously relationship with Batman and Dick's own past with wanting to develop wannabes (Tad, Tarantula, Damien), I'm going to be seriously annoyed by more Robinson nonsense.
I suppose they'll wind up in a threesome with Hal...

I think a more appropriate World's Finest would be Dick and Mon El, or Dick and Kon El. But we'll see, if it's written well it could be interesting.

I can kinda see it. Even though I'm no aficionado at Supergirl continuity, isn't Supergirl the first Superman legacy character? So, it makes sense to me. It's like three generations of World's Finest: Bruce and Clark, Dick and Kara, Tim and Conner.

I didn't think of it as their "World's Finest" but more a possible romantic relationship, which...I dunno, could be interesting, could be shit. I'll wait until it happens to judge.
And they won't have a threesome with Hal--we all know his heart belongs to Ollie.

I'm with you guys. The biggest problem I could see people having with it is the possible age problem - is Kara 18 in Earth years yet?
Otherwise, I don't see a big deal here. Plus it will probably just end up with them becoming closer friends or something.

I don't think any real "relationship" between them will form. A Close friendship, and a One-sided Crush at the Worst/Best.

This great news I see nothing wrong with it. I would want to see them together then having them stick him with Starfire again.

Mon'El is going back to Legion.
To elaborate a bit, he's leaving the present day and going to the future. So that pretty much rules him out as a partner for Batman.

I prefer the idea of Batman (Dick Grayson) and Power Girl (Karen Starr) working together.
That, and Kara and Tim had a really nice issue of Superman/Batman together. I see them functioning as the next, next generation of the World's Finest. Hell, throw Conner in there for fun.

Ah, and here I was thinking they were going to kill him or re-sentence him to the Phantom Zone. Glad I was wrong.
Sending him to the future is a much better option.
Oh, and the Dick/Kara friendship? Like it. Sounds like fun.

Exactly. That's the World's Finest 2.0 team up that should be. Or Supergirl/Batgirl which was great in the World's Finest mini.
And honestly, if it were anyone but Robinson, I wouldn't be worried.

I prefer Power Girl with Huntress, to be honest. I want her to develop a proper relationship with H. Bertenelli.
Dick and Kara should be fun.
And then the obvious 3rd generation of World's Finest would be Kon and Tim.
Then there's Damian. I say they de-age Chris Kent back to being around the same age.
Here's the quote, originates from this prolly:
James Robinson: "I have two years worth of 'Justice League' worked out now. Like, I know the relationship Supergirl and Batman are gonna have, and I know the relationship of Starman and Jade and ... oooh. SHIT!"

Eh, I'd rather it be with Karen. That'd be way too fun to see. Though I agree with the post a few above. It'd be fun to see Karen and this Huntress become friends.
Though, notice this may hint neither Bruce and Clark in the league for the upcoming years.

Maybe Kara is older now, closer to the Titan's ages now. i don't know. This is why I hate they got rid of Linda. That would have made fare more sense. I used to look at it as
Dick/Donna/Linda
Tim/Cassie/Kon
Huntress/Artemis/Power Girl or Steel
etc.
I always thought Dick, Donna and Linda could play off each other well...oh well.

So yes to Helena and Karen.

As for Dick and Kara: correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't she used to have a crush on him?
She did basically when she first (re) showed up on Earth and was still searching around trying to find her place and was all messed up from crystal poisoning or whatever was going on that they used for the excuse of her being "off" for that first couple years. Then again, it's Dick Grayson...not exactly too outlandish for women to be lusting after him. Still, it was presented a lot like the "high school girl crushing on college guy that's oblivious" kind of situation.
Not much has been made of it since. It basically popped up in one issue, got a passing mention in another, and I don't know that there was anything else. Not a plot thread I expected to see revived, but I'm not really opposed to the idea. Of course, if it turns out to simply be a platonic friendship that's fine, too. Still, I wouldn't expect too much to come of it since well...it's the team book and not the solo title. (Remember Batman/Wonder Woman?)
Kara's age is definitely wonky. Some stories she's presented as fitting better with the Teen Titans than the JLA and others she's presented as a little bit older. Though I suppose with her recent "Caste Joining"/coming-of-age story she's at least considered an adult by Kryptonian standards.

I really like the pairing between Kara and Dick. While I agree that a sexual relationship between them would sort of be disgusting since they won't age Kara to 19 or even 20. Isn't Grayson only 26 or 27 at this point? I could see a small crush on an older man type deal going on?
And isn't Clark her older brother? Why would Dick be?
It's like Dick and Diana. Very little interaction between him and Kara thus far.
I love any interaction between these two. The best and most well-known legacy characters in my opinion.
Still waiting for Donna and Dick to give it a try but I think they'll forever be in each other's friend zone for whatever reason. There's no way that two attractive people would not be attracted to each other in real life...particularly since Dick is single! I know this isn't reality but come on!
Anyone read issue 46 yet? Very cool. I like the relationship between Kara and Dick. While it does seem brother-sister like, I don't know any sister who would say the mask covers too much of your face. That seems more flirty to me. A real sister would say the cowl is an improvement.

Dick and Power Gil need to hook up
From the JLA/JSA team panel:
So now he's (Robinson) looking forward to building a brother/sister relationship with Dick and Supergirl.
Well that puts an end to all the romantic relationship talk.

I know what interview your talking about, but I also recall him addressing around the same time that it was going to be an older brother/sister type relationship. I've never been given the indication that it was romantic. And it works, since Dick has a history of mentoring younger heroes, from Ravager to Damien, wherein both cases it proved successful enough to steer them in a more heroic direction, even against their own familial ties.
Plus, Kara can use that type of real connection outside of Supes and his network. Tbh, I never cared for Kara's introduction to the DCU and always thought she was running off the fumes of the Supergirl name for the first few years of her jumping in and out of other books. Her ties to the rest of the JLA, Titans, the Amazons seemed forced and superficial at best. Right now, I think she is the only Superman character who benefitted from WoS with more characterization than she had before and is in a position to continue progressing following her tragic losses.

It makes sense Dick's almost certainly more fun to be around than Clark or Bruce. Why wouldn't she want to partner up with him.
Dick's about 26 or 27. Kara's 18 at least. She's legal both here and on Krypton. So technically they COULD go that route if they had a mind to. It'd be intresting to see her crush played out (since I don't see Dick reciprocating).
I think it'd be be fun to do since it'd be a fun reversal of the Batgirl/Robin stories of the 70's. Only this time it'd be a younger Kara crushing futilely on Dick as opposed to Dick crushing futilely on the older Babs.
Free-Man
07-26-2010, 07:20 AM
Brother and sister? The way they were written in the last JLA issue made it seem a little more like Supergirl was flirting.
When Dick congratulates her on saving Gotham, she basically ignores him and looks at him with a smile while saying something like "You should get a new mask. This one covers too much of your face."

Yeah, Tim and Kon are the right match. They're the right age and have that bromance chemistry going. I could easily see them as a pair teaming up regularly.
But unlike Tim and Bruce, Dick's more of an outgoing person. Where Bruce started his team experiences (and still continues them for the most part) as demanding obedience, Dick had to earn his respect from the Titans and other teams he worked with. Tim isn't as "my way or else" as Bruce, but he is introverted and is much more reliant on fewer friendships as Bruce is.
Bruce gets along with few people, it's difficult to get him to respect you enough for anything approaching a friendship. Dick, on the other hand, has loads of buds. People respect Bruce and Tim, they like Dick.
As to what this has to do with anything, I can see Dick and Power Girl dating. He's grown up enough for her, after his time with Starfire, he could certainly keep his eyes off her chest. Both of them are confident people with a sense of humor and could get along, but...
The weird thing about Dick and Power Girl is how much she remembers about the greying Dick Grayson of Earth 2. Could Kara date a younger version of a guy she knew as an older Ambassador? More of a PG question than a Batman one though.
I'd also want to add that in the current DC universe, PG is the senior female Kryptonian and Supergirl the junior partner so I could see:
Bruce & Clark the first team, the parents together more out of circumstances and relating more out of respect than friendship
Dick & Kara Zor-L the first to leave the nests, now adults, sexual tension but possibly the weakest actual friendship
Tim & Kon-el the closest to the World's Finest team and easily the best friendship of the bunch
Damian and Kara Zor-el the leftovers, wise-@$$ kid and super$!u+

I would arguably say that while the majority respect Bruce, few additionally know him enough to like him. Whereas the majority respect and like Dick and Tim, with people having known Dick longer.
But I'm not sure what the larger point is since dynamics don't have to be matchy-matchy to their predecessors.

Again I would say that Karen being practically near-sisters with Helena Wayne, who was Dick's wife in that universe, would be the larger issue in wanting to date him--but apparantly that isn't a problem given the latest run in Powergirl.
As for 'World's finest', I definitely think Dick and Karen are a better match. Kara Zor-El is powerful and her dynamic with Dick is nicely written in JLA, but its obvious he takes a mentorship role with her as she is still emotionally growing and maturing.
If anything the future oneshots allow us to see the the World's Finest label goes through many interpretations.

Well, they don't have to be perfect, but Bruce and Tim are much more likely to be buddies with a smaller number of people. Dick is going to be buddies with a lot of people. I believe that his more extroverted nature makes a World's Finest style close friendship less likely for Dick. He could talk with Wally one arc, Roy another, even Bruce or Clark.
Bruce is still respected a lot more than he's actually liked. He's like the boss at work. You may like him, but there's a lot more professional distance there. Tim is a lot more Bruce than Dick is and would fit into a single WF relationship more than Dick would.
