Hey, Tom. I know you usually have a colorist on tap but I was wondering if you had some 300 dpi B&W art you could spare for me to work up a coloring sample. I've been thinking about putting together a small personal website and I'd love to have some coloring samples to put up. I could probably use any of the bajillion B&W art samples out there but I'd love to toss a link back to your book.

I have two provisos:

1) I will make a disclaimer that I'm not the published colorist on your book (unless you're so wowed you WANT to bring me onboard) and that the work is strictly a sample.

2) Anything of yours I post, I'll get your approval first. I don't want to defame your characters or make your book look cheap inadvertantly.

I figure I'd put some extra time and love into this. The art I have from my own ashcan is a bit... inky... and doesn't receive colors beyond flats very well, IMHO. But your artist has a nice, open style that I would enjoy coloring. I have some production art from Ed McGuinness but it's reduced to 8 1/2" x 11" and marked up with editor's notes. And I'd rather give you a throwback link than be one of those guys with a dozen Al Rio or Rio-like undressing super-heroines or not-ready-for-primetime sequentials. I've tinkered around with the B&W art I've found online but very little of it is at the resolution I want to work in.

The offer extends to any artists on YABS, naturally.

Gotta be honest Tom, I hate the art.

The little red X's aren't doing it for me man.

I can see the art. Am I the only one?

Hmmmm. Not sure why you guys can't see the pics. Unless Photobucket was down for a bit. Here are the direct links.

Are you guys using Explorer as your browser?

I can view the pictures using Safari, Firefox and Chrome but not IE.

Pffft.

If this is the way digital comics are going, being able to see stuff in one browser, but not another, you can count me out.

It's kinda of weird that IE doesn't let you view one of the most popular image sharing sites in the world.

Oh, when I said these are pencils I misspoke. These are finished inks. Got my files mixed up.

Yeah, I've got IE too -- both at home and at work.

Not working for you?

I'm at school now, so I'm gonna see if I can view it on Firefox.

Maybe Tom will put the images up on his Toy Boy website and I *should* be able to see them there.

Ditto.

Actually at work, I have an older version of IE.... which causes even more trouble than it's worth.

You guys might want to consider installing Firefox. It's a much better browser than IE and it's free.

Chrome is a good one too. Also free.

Both are easy to install and use.

Hey TOM!

I just got your snail-mail letter about Toy Boy: What Happens in Vegas.

Thanks! This is what absolutely gets a retailers attention. The fact you included the order code is good also. I've put it up on my "Are You Interested?" section to try and drum up some more orders.

Thanks!

Sweet! Thanks man!

It's good to see that the extra work is paying off. I mailed off about sixty of those all over the country. Let's hope other retailers take notice too.
