View Full Version : Question Regarding the Thalarions and Amazons

One thing that hasn't quite sat well with me since WAY back in Amazons Attack is that the Amazons have attacked Washington D.C, and now the Thalarions have attacked the United Nations, the Middle East, Russia and possibly several other nations and yet neither the Themyscirians nor the Thalarions have had any repurcussions for their actions. They are allowed to continue with their lives as if none of that ever happened. Then in issue 41 we will see Achilles even being allowed on U.S. soil and able to purchase property there. That part never really made any sense to me.
There was, of course, the situation in Secret Six where a small group of Bana-Mighdallian Amazons were taken captive and sent to a prison/torture island for their actions. Still, the island nations of Themyscira and Thalarion remain untouched outside of a nazi faction wanting to use Themyscira as a base of operations. Are there mystical defenses to each island that we don't know about? Wasn't Diana able to disable the barrier to Themyscira?

Shhhhhhhhh! Don't bring it up man, it's the last thing I want to see, but America's retaliation is probably inevitable. Also it appears like anybody with a boat can invade Themycira anytime they want to. They're not hardly safe.

I hope the Wonder Woman Encyclopedia can help here.

Gail's response via the DC Boards:
I think you're absolutely right, Artemisboy. I think there is still some question about how the UN and US would feel about the Thalarions and Amazons both.
However, as we've seen a lot in real life, recently, it's relatively easy to sweep even very serious matters under the carpet if the public simply doesn't want to deal with it. I hear all the time that people don't want to, just as an example, not meant to spark any partisan arguments, charge any previous administration officials with crimes even when there is extensive evidence. There is always a tendency to want to move on.
I think the high regard people have for WW might make a PR rehab of the Amazons relatively easy--as long as there is a scapegoat. It kind of sucks, it's not very Amazonian, but I can see it happening.
As for Achilles, he could be buying that estate under some confidentiality...celebrities do it all the time.
But, I do now side with the folks who think there would still be lingering anger about the Amazon Attacks thing.
Thanks Gail for responding. It's more of a head scratching scenerio at best for me. Granted, I do have an issue with the majority of writers coming on the title and eventually bring about an Amazon invasion and/or slaughter. That said, I'm all for no serious repercussions to the Amazons/Thalarions. I just thought it was strange that no one really gave them any reaction what so ever. A panel showing some overly patriotic person yelling "go home" or "murderer" would seem a more likely scenerio at one of Diana's or Achilles' appearances.
