Just for fun/fyi;
I got a book called Superheroes and Philosophy, and in the chapter "Barbara Gordon and Moral Perfectionism", Gail Simones Birds of Prey stuff is cited.

The question that comes to mind is if Gail Simone is a just and loving God or Old Testament style vindictive.

They also name checked Gail in an issue of Cable and Deadpool a while back.

What'd the book say?


It tracks Babs through Batgirl Year 1, Killing Joke, Suicide Squad and into Birds of Prey. It came out in 2005, so a lot of your run hadn't been written yet, but I believe it touched on the loss of the clocktower in War Games. Sorry I don't have more info; I post mostly at work and don't have the book handy to refresh my memory.

The Supergirls: Fashion, Feminism and the History of Comic Book Heroines book really heaps a lot of praise on Gail for her work on Birds of Prey and Wonder Woman. In fact, while the chapter on WW is largely critical of how she was presented at various times, it ends with saying how amazing Gail's WW's sense of humor is and saying "As Diana's been trying to say for years, sometimes all that's required is a woman's touch".

And the section on motherhood really goes into Babs and Dinah's realtionship under Chuck and Gail, and even goes into Dinah's relationship with Sin! Also, generally good things to say about BoP.

We had a full team of 8 (including a couple of YABSers) on City of Heroes the other night, and the battle cry for leaping in, attracting all aggro and faceplanting was

"GAAAAIIIIIILLLLL SIMONE!!!"

Several times.
