View Full Version : Why doesn't DC do two JLA books?

One that's continuity lite (but not a flashback like Classified) in the vein of SUPERMAN/BATMAN with a big seven roster and one that's up-to-the-minute continuity informed?
It just seems to me like the Flashback schtick sunk the Classified books but that a LITERAL adherence to monthly continuity keeps a big seven book from being viable.
Basically just a JLA book that uses new characters and developments but doesn't shift to reflect anything less than a year in length.
Y'Know, so Batman would be in the Dick Grayson costume and Superman would beam in from New Krypton but the regular details would be fuzzy about when it takes place and they wouldn't worry precisely when it takes place relative to other books unless there's a story to mine out of it.
Kinda halfway between Morrison's JLA and Marvel Adventures: Avengers. Up to date visuals. New characters available for use. But anything that gets in the way of a Big Seven roster gets shifted aside and the book doesn't do crossovers, really.

Because they can't get one League book right, so why let them run two books into the ground? How about they just focus on writing one good book about their flagship supergroup? And an easy way to do that is to ignore dumbass continuity and tie-ins and just write a good book, with good artists and good stories.

Because if it isn't trapped within the continuity of the DCU it won't encourage readers to pick up every other DC book in Previews.

I thought they were planning to do two JLA series this year, weren't they? One written by Geoff Johns?
Or was that just a rumour?

Because the book doesn't sell well enough.

It was a rumor that johns and jim lee would do one. I would buy it on the spot if it turns out to be true.

A continuity bog that only came out every three or four months?
I'll wait for the trade.

Think again.
It sells nearly 25,000 more than Justice Society. A title that just got a spin-off.
So you're wrong.

You can't sell inane tie-ins will just good comic book. You have to have hype and incentives and variant covers and THINGS WILL NEVER BE THE SAME EVER.

I'd give it a go for sure. Johns is VERY hit and miss for me but when he's on top of his game he does some great stuff

Well they did have two league books for the past half year. Cry for Justice and JLA. JLA was suffering from transition and was just mediocre and CFJ was, IMHO, a piece of crap.
Before they go and do two books, I agree with other posters that they need to do one good book. And even then I would need a good creative team and a good set of characters to want another book. I think making the JSA into two books, despite a terrific set of writers, has only managed to create two mediocre books.

I've been enjoying All Stars but the art is really distracting me...WHY can't the artist draw the characters eyes right? Are eyes that difficult? They all look like the Children of the Damned, with bright white staring eyes and no pupils!
