View Full Version : Ronin or Hawkeye?

When its all over and Clint picks a costume which one should it be?
I myself like the ronin outfit and the weapons master portion, but I also like the archery of the original outfit......Would you guys be opposed to the Hawkeye outfit rocking the Ronin Black and yellow colors?
I think it would give the character the perfect blend of sneaking into places and keeping that ninja like style, but give him that flair of bow and arrow specialist as he retains the bow and arrow and a sword. Like Blackknight meets Hawkeye. I wish I could photoshop.
What do ya'll think?

Hawkeye, Clint was likable as Hawkeye.

So nothing against Ronin, but I want to see Clint back in the purple where he belongs.

Clint became Ronin when his lord was lost and his clan declared outlaw. Now, his master has returned and their clan will retake its rightful place from the honorless usurpers. He will be Ronin no more.

I think he should be Hawkeye IF Kate had been Mockingbird. But now Mock is back and Clint gave up the name. I do think that he needs to use the bow, but not as Hawkeye. Maybe return of the Golden Archer?

If he stays as Ronin there is no reason he should not have a bow. Also, if he retuns to the Purple no reason he should not have an extra weapon or two. Seems just silly to have your arsenal limited by a theme.

The purple archer costume is ten times better than the ugly Ronin costume.
I also like Kate Bishop a lot, which is why I want her to get a new name, because every time they call her Hawkeye it annoys me.

So... U.S.Agent was called Captain America once. War Machine was Iron Man... There are lots of examples of the mantles being passed on then taken back by the original. That is what is going to happen here.
Also... Purple costume = Fantastic. Ronin Costume = Bland and boring.

Couple of comments...
Given the Heroic Age promo art we've all pretty much seen, and the fact that things will be lightening up at Marvel, does anyone reasonably expect that Clint won't be Hawkeye again post-Siege? Hell, it'll probably happen *during* Siege.
Also, what the hell has Kate Bishop done lately that Clint can't have the Hawkeye name back and tell her to find her own damned codename? Kate's a decent character and all, but I'd rather have MY generation's Hawkeye back.

I think he should be Hawkeye since I always thought Ronin was a temporary thing anyway. Also as was mentioned somewhere there are plenty of ninja and martial arts type characters around. The archer persona that Clint had made him stand out.

If you are going to do a "Heroic Age", then let the status quo return:
Clint as Hawkeye, Steve as Cap. Period.
Kate Bishop and Bucky Barnes can still have their roles and develop as characters, but let the heavy hitters return to the roles they are known for.

Like Marvel needs anymore gloomy anti-heroes with itchy trigger fingers. And a ninja to boot. It's like Bendis wanted to give all the 11 year old boys that don't read comics something to get a nerd-boner over, trampling over long-time Avengers and Hawkeye fans in the process. angst? check. swords? check. kill-frenzy plus guns? check. Paying attention to any of the character's extensive back story?... hmmm. How about presenting the character in a way that even vaguely resembles the character he killed years back? nope...

I personally like for the guy to fight up close and hasn't he always been kinda an angry person (or is this just his recent personality)? I can't see him just shooting arrows and thats that. I mean really? If that happens then Green Arrow can easily beat him in the next Marvel DC vs.
I always though he had Havok's (from the X-men) personality.

I would like him as Hawkeye, but I would like for him to have a close combat weapon as well. I liked the Ronin thing but it's time for Clint Barton as Hawkeye to return. Especially since he made such a big stink about it that someone else stole his former identity. If only to make up for the fact that a sociopath dared to wear his uniform. That alone would piss me off if I were him.

Because it happens in comics all the time.
1. Thunderball forgot that he was a genuis.
2. Beast forgot he was trained by Captain America (no finnesse when he fights anymore)
3. Hulk forgot what he learned throughout World war Hulk.
4. Norman Osborn forgot to improve upon stolen Armor (which normally he would do).

Clint has always been a hothead, but not in the way that Bendis portrays him. He's mostly just arrogant and rash. Not stupid and violent. Marvel already has plenty of ninja and martial arts characters. Why bother having two night thrashers? It's pointless, and Clint has always been an EXPERT marksman, where as he may be proficient in martial arts, but he is still not Iron Fist or Shang Chi. You get what I mean? Why have a mediocre ninja when you can have an expert marksman with a sharp tongue and plenty of sarcastic humor?
And for the record... Hawkeye schooled Green Arrow during the last Marvel DC crossover, and even macked on Canary. I'd say that equates to Olly getting utterly embarrassed by Marvel's resident archer. :D

I liked Ronin. It served a point and showed us Clint in a different light. He was directionless, at one of his lowest points and I thought it was pretty damn effective of doing something new with the character...
It also makes me really excited for the possibility of him being Hawkeye again. The times he's picked up a bow since he's become Ronin has always led me to me pumping my fist in joy, and him becoming Hawkeye again would really excite me.
Ronin's been fun, but I think at heart Clint is Hawkeye.

Dry humor is not a personal attack on anyone's character. Furthermore, you're the only one that's read it and felt a need to lash out at me.
Your comments are, on the other hand, an attack.
And I'm done talking about this. You want to talk comics, I'm game. You want to critique or control the method in which I opine and this is a pointless conversation to take any further.

I personally think that the purple and blue color scheme is the way to go. It really makes him stand out, which is perfect for him since he is most definitely the loudest Avenger, lol. The loudmouthed archer needs an outfit that screams "Pay attention to me, dammit!" Rather than "I'm grim and angsty, leave me alone because you don't understand me" haha.
However a darker/navy blue scheme with purple highlights would fit best with a modern, yet classic look for Clint. Just keep the mask. (and for the love of god... no Midriffs, panchos or skirts, ala Avengers Forever)
Keep it simple, and classic, yet functional (but not overly so). He needs to have just a pinch of flair to his costume, imo.

Don't get me wrong, I think Clint can definitely hold his own if the fight gets up close and personal, but he has always been able to do some serious damage, simply by using his arrows like throwing knives or stabbing tools. Check out the fight with Iron Man, he smashed an acid arrow into ole shellhead's mask, or when he fought a savage she-hulk with a makeshift bow after his other one became obliterated. I always thought it was way more cool and efficient for him to just get creative with what he's got (he's always been a great improviser) rather than carry a sword or nunchaku simply in the event that someone gets up close to him, when he could easily just use the arrows that are already in his hand to stab, slash, explode, blind, knockout, confuse, or otherwise deter his enemies. Carrying around extra would just slow him down.
However, if they do give him a rapier ala Swordsman, I wouldn't revolt or anything, as long as the bow is the weapon of choice. I just wouldn't see any point in it

Except Clint's a tad "psychotic" or is at least very prone to "heated reactions."
Especially matters with Wanda. Also, his little "Cowboy Bebop" sortie was ill-advised. Yes, let's do storm Osborn's Dark Avengers club house, and not even heed the notion that place would be heavily guarded.
This tactic worked for Spike Speigle, but he still died from bleeding out.
Clint, well, not so much. He didn't even get to Osborn. Next time bring grenades...lots of grenades, OOooh and plastic explosive mines.

Just give Clint the House of M Hawkeye costume. Its been by far the best redesign of his costume, and the best costume he's ever had period. He still had it when he came back from the HoM reality too, and it matches up perfectly with Mockingbird's new costume (assuming she survives Siege).
I like the Ronin costume, I have to say, but Clint should be Hawkeye. Its the true representation of who he is.

you can thank Bendis and his blatant disregard of the character's rich, established history and personality. Clint going on an angry kill-spree at all is about as out of left field as Spider-Man becoming a mime. Clint is anti-kill... period. And Bendis took Clint's rash nature and kicked it up to 13, making him seem like a complete tool. When in fact, Bendis is the tool. whew... sorry, I'm just a bit bitter

Clint should be Hawkeye. Purple costume, big H on forehead, master with the bow. Ditch all of the other ninja weapons and go back to what he does best.
The Ronin outfit should be passed around to any character thats just returned from the dead and is feeling a bit down. That way we could have the "excitement" of a "who is Ronin" mystery every 12 months. All of the former Ronins could make their own angsty super-ninja team called Ronin Force.
Alternatively, the Ronin outfit could be given to any character that Bendis wants to write out of character, or any character that he wants to ignore 20 years of continuity and character development when writing.
