Alright, I need some help MWers! Could you guys give me suggestions for defining moments for the following characters/teams?
- I'm looking for cool/memorable moments, not arcs/stories
- titles and issue numbers would be nice-- scans of the moments would be the bestest!
1.X-Men
2.Avengers
3.Fantastic4
4.Spider-Man
5.Hulk
6.Thor
7.Iron Man
8.Cap
9.Daredevil
10Wolverine
11.Namor
12.Silver Surfer
13.Dr. Strange
14.Nick Fury
15.Punisher
16.Ghost Rider
17.Magneto
18.Dr. Doom
19.Green Goblin
20.Kingpin
21.Thanos
22.Galactus
Examples would be Spidey's lifting the wreckage sequence from ASM # 33, Thor's "Ultron... we would have words with thee." line from Ultron Unlimited, Doom grabbing the Beyonder's powers in Secret Wars I, stuff like that.

Captain America's defining moment: Winter Soldier arc, Civil War
Daredevil's defining moment: Born Again story arc
Iron Man's defining moment: Demon in a Bottle story arc, Armor Wars, Civil War
Thanos' defining moment: Thanos defined the proverb from Sun Tzu's Art of War: "Opportunity to defeat an enemy is provided by the enemy". He provided Captain Marvel an opportunity to defeat him. He allowed Nebula to snatch the Infinity Gauntlet from him.
Galactus' defining moment: summoning Eternity to defend Reed Richards against the Shi'ar accusations.
Kingpin's defining moment: destroying Matt Murdock's life and reputation

4. Spider Man. The death of Gwen Stacy. I'd love to add ASM #500 (death of Aunt May) but they retconned that great story out of existance :frown:
18. Dr Doom. Freeing his mother from Mephisto. Defeating the Beyonder and claiming his power.
5. Hulk. Revelation of the Hulk(s) being just Banner's personalities. Discovering who the Maestro was. Death of planet Hulk. Defeating Sentry.
17. Magneto. Discovery of mags being an holocaust survivor.
10. Wolverine. The story "Wolverine 24 hours".

for me, the X-mens' defining moment came with the death of Phoenix: been downhill, often steeply, ever since then.

Haguim - I definitely need to read Future Imperfect one of these days.
Matt - any particular moment from that arc? I've always liked that classic shot of Cyke and Phoenix coming out of the cave knowing that they had no shot against the Imperial Guard.
Please keep em coming, guys, thanks!

Cyclops-The end of Astonishing X-Men #24
Namor at the end of Revolution (okay granted I don't know much about the dude but that was pretty monumental)
Bishop-End of Messiah CompleX (not a good definition but pretty darn defining)
Magneto- UXM #274-275 (not a big aha moment but the internal narrative was an excellent summary of how he was)
I'd also go with his stand of with Exodus while he was de-powered.
Edit: Oh, you want X-Men as a team...........The move to Utopia was pretty defining as far as the change of direction.

For Sub-Mariner and Daredevil, I'd have to say the Silver Age story in DD#7 where they fought. Daredevil lost but it was an early memorable moment for him to go up against a much stronger opponent. Namor was doing what he felt he had to do and so did Daredevil.
For the Fantastic Four, if you split out Ben separately, I think the Thing's defining moment was when he went against Doom one on one in FF#40. Far more than the ludcrious Squirrel Girl debacle, this one was a big blow to Doom's ego. It's worth a topic in itself but I think in recent years the Thing has become too cuddly, for lack of a better word, and used more almost as comic relief. The Ben in FF#40 was a lot more angry and he was working out his bitterness in that fight. I'd like to see Ben get a little bit more of that in Ben's fights again.
For Doom, I'd have to go along with the GN: Triumph and Torment in addition to Secret Wars. It shows us Doctor Doom at his most human but still refusing to compromise who he is.
For Silver Surfer, it would be his rebellion against Galactus in the FF arc "The Coming of Galactus" and he finding his soul. I think this is why Stan created Mephisto as his first main adversary.

I don't think the Death of Gwen Stacy is a Spidey defining moment, it always seemed like more of a Goblin moment to me. I just thought "What a bastard..."
And May didn't die in ASM #500, but that issue does work as one of his defining moments... Like having to go through all the bad he ever went through to save the heroes. And being able to see Uncle Ben at the end. ASM #33 will always be a deining moment for me, as Peter struggles through panels and panels to remove a giant heap of rubble off him in order to save May.
For Wolverine, Uncanny X-men #133.

Daredevil: Daredevil #181, the death of Elektra, because it showed that often times Matt's personal feelings get in the way of his principles, for good or ill. Particularly, this scene continues to stand out in my mind as a defining moment, and certainly one I'll never forget:

Kingpin: Daredevil #233, the conclusion to "Born Again." Kingpin knows he's lost, and even acted foolishly, letting his ego get the better of him, but he still refuses to admit his errs. His self-confidence, will to intimidate, and literal size keep his underlings in line at all times, even when such submission is at the peril of their own livelihoods:

6.Thor
Walt Simonson's "For Asgard, For Midgard, For Myself" panel in Thor 353 (number might be off)
8.Cap
Cap 250 where he decides not to run for president because he represents the dream and not the reality.
14.Nick Fury
I always loved the scene in Electra: Assassin where Fury's on the phone with a US Senator and was doing two other things at the same time. Seems like the type of multi-tasking a Director of SHIELD should be doing.
18.Dr. Doom
Not stealing the Beyonder's power, but earlier in Secret Wars when he first discovers what's going on and when he crashes, he then looks for Reed Richards. "Only Richards might understand" That describes Doom perfectly to me. He thinks he's better than Richards but no one else is in their league

When we learn that Proffessor X has the hots for Jean back in UXM #4 or something?
That was awesome.
McFarlane's Green Hulk

CAPTAIN AMERICA #350 -- vs. the John Walker Cap (aka US Agent)...
HULK #377 -- the merging of Banner and the green & gray Hulks...
I can't choose between THOR #367, 378 or 380 -- the first appearance of the beard; then the armor; and his battle against the Midgard Serpent.
I'll go with THOR #400. Nostalgic rip on the Lee/Kirby era stories by DeFalco & Frenz...
FANTASTIC FOUR #307 -- Reed & Sue leave, giving Ben the leadership role in the FF...
Spider-Man, torn between "Kraven's Last Hunt" or "Death of Jean DeWolff".

Spider-man: I need to track down the issue number this happened but i would ahve to say the defining moment would be when he frees himself from the rubble of Dr Ock's HQ.
Wolverine: rising out of the sewers itching for a rematch with the Hellfire Club during the Dark Phoenix Saga.

For Hulk, one of those moments was when he lifted that entire mountain in Secret War, preventing it from crushing the rest of the heroes. Not sure on the details, and I only really remember the cover, but that deserves some mentioning.

It's mentioned in the OP. ASM #33 ... it was one of last year's Cool comic book panels (http://goodcomics.comicbookresources.com/2009/08/17/amazing-spider-man-33-panel-showdown/http://) here at CBR

For Kingpin there were a lot of wonderful moments in Born Again, but he became a big favorite of mine when I got into the early Frank Miller stuff. When DD broke into his place for the first time. Matt uses all the strength in his body to open Fisk's vault, then while he's sneaking around Fisk whips the door right open, punches him out, and calls him a minor annoyance.
For Daredevil, I would actually say that old O'Neil issue where he fought the Vulture.

Iron Man (I'm thinking when the Extremis virus infected him?)
Namor (I'm totally blanking-- how about that giant wave from Marvels # 1? Did that really happen?)
Magneto
Ghost Rider (I'll take any cool moment!)
Nick Fury (I'll take any cool moment!)
Dr Strange (I'm thinking when he first met Eternity)
