So I read batman only and have just recently decided to read green lantern TBP's.
So how can I start reading Green Lantern and understand it fully. What order should I read them?
I only have one TBP and that is Green lantern: Rebirth.
Any help would be great thanks

Welcome to the forums! The 2010 join date threw me off for a second, haha!
For GL I found this nice Amazon list:
http://www.amazon.com/Green-Lantern-Part-2/lm/RJHI6JHC3HCUW/ref=cm_lmt_DYNA_f_1_rui0i00?pf_rd_p=496997231&pf_rd_s=listmania-center&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=1401213561&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=0DNYNPPZE0ENQJ01GZSW
You can skip the Rann-Thangar War, and IC Companian because as I remember they did not directly tie-in Johns GL.
After that it leads right into Blackest Night, which are going to be collected later this year.

Here is a response I gave someone else not too long ago:
To get Blackest Night, you probably don't need to read everything. You could just pick up Rebirth and Sinestro Corps, and be up to speed for the most part. But a good list of the books that build up to where we are now:
GL: Rebirth (http://www.dccomics.com/dcu/graphic_novels/?gn=6802)
GL: No Fear (http://www.dccomics.com/dcu/graphic_novels/?gn=9170)
GL: Revenge of the Green Lanterns (http://www.dccomics.com/dcu/graphic_novels/?gn=9972)
GL: Wanted: Hal Jordan (http://www.dccomics.com/dcu/graphic_novels/?gn=10738)
Sinestro Corps Vol. 1 (http://www.dccomics.com/dcu/graphic_novels/?gn=11322)
Sinestro Corps Vol. 2 (http://www.dccomics.com/dcu/graphic_novels/?gn=11743)
GL: Secret Origin (http://www.dccomics.com/dcu/graphic_novels/?gn=10386) - new GL origin, can be read first
GL: Rage of the Red Lanterns (http://www.dccomics.com/dcu/graphic_novels/?gn=11742)
GL: Agent Orange (http://www.dccomics.com/dcu/graphic_novels/?gn=12907)
GLC: Recharge (http://www.dccomics.com/dcu/graphic_novels/?gn=5221) - takes place after Rebirth
GLC: Ring Quest (http://www.dccomics.com/dcu/graphic_novels/?gn=10461) - takes place after Sinestro Corps
GLC: Sins of the Star Sapphire (http://www.dccomics.com/dcu/graphic_novels/?gn=11744)
Related books from pre-Johns:
In Brightest Day (http://www.dccomics.com/dcu/graphic_novels/?gn=10192): the stories that inspired Johns' take on GL and has his thoughts on them, including the Alan Moore prophecy story
Tales of the GLC Vol. 1 (http://www.dccomics.com/dcu/graphic_novels/?gn=10923): First appearance of the villain in Blackest Night, and one of the very best GL stories.
You could also read the Showcase books and trades from the 80s and 90s. Some of those are really good. But not essential.

I'm fairly new too.
Rebirth seems to be what leads into everything thats happening now.
I got all of the trades of the most recent Green lantern series.
I think its volume 4.
You cant go wrong buying everything thats available and if you can try to get all the Blackest Night stuff.
We've got Green Lantern 43-49 out so far and Blackest Night 1-6.

thanks for the help guys :)
Are there any TBP's that cover the very origin of Green Lanter etc?
Green Lantern: Secret Origin is about Hal's origin and some Blackest Night related stuff.

Would people say that green lantern is at its strongest now more than ever?
Definitely. Green Lantern has never been this big.

Thanks for the reply, would you say that this is because of the quality of the story being told?
Oh yes, Geoff Johns has never done better stuff than in his GL run so far. Rebirth was quite a success and the following issues of GL and GLC have been consistently good month after month, writing and art-wise.... Sinestro Corps War was a hit, like a very self-contained event, with action, drama and shocking moments. It made GL even more popular than it was before. SCW also hinted at BN so the hype for it started long ago. BN itself is a very GL centric event, which has also been very solid and popular.

Green Lantern: Rebirth
No Fear
Revenge of the Green Lanterns
Wanted Hal Jordan
Sinestro Corps War (Sinestro Corps War Vol 1, Sinestro Corps War Vol 2, and Tales of the Sinestro Corps)
Green Lantern: Secret Origin (maybe read first if you want, because it is Hal's current origin)
Rage of the Red Lanterns
Agent Orange
More:
-Tales of Green Lantern Corps Vol 1 (very influential early 80's story for the GL mythos, great story, and particularly relevant to read before Blackest Night)
-JLA Year One (some good Hal in there and you get the current JLoA origin)
-Emerald Twilight (good to read before Rebirth if you haven't)
If you read all of these, you'll not only get all the best Hal trades (aside from the expensive collections of Silver Age Hal stories, that I would get someday)(and aside from great Hal stories that aren't yet in trades), you'll get a crash course in the modern GL mythos.

I want to read Green Lantern Issue No. 9 because it is a batman cross over but I have missed all previous issues leading up to issue 9 so is there a TBP that contains them all? Thanks

Green Lantern: Rebirth collects the miniseries that started the current era of Green Lantern comics.
Green Lantern: No Fear collects issues 1-6 of the current ongoing series. Green Lantern: Revenge of the Green Lanterns collects issues 7-13.
So you'd probably be best served by just buying those collections.

Freakin' Kids.
Green Lantern is big now, but you're all forgetting the O'Neil / Adams run.
This was huge and is an amazing read. It's been split into two trades and should be read by everyone.
It was before my time too.

I've read the Adams/ O'Neil run.

I've read the O'Neil/Adams run and imho, apart from having awesome art and being socially relevant for their times, the stories are terrible especially the characterization.

Plus, none are really relevant to the GL mythos as it is now so far.

So there is nothing that should be read that takes place before the current GL era?

Nothing that's necessary. I'd probably pick up "Tales of the Green Lantern Corps volume 1" because a major character in a current storyline was first introduced there, and "Green Lantern: In Brightest Day" as it collects a bunch of stories that current writer Geoff Johns picked as being the most influential to his run.
But don't feel like you're forced to read a ton of old comics. If you start at Rebirth you'll be fine.
