on Wednesday my lcs is having a huge sale on back issues so I am eager to pick up some great but lesser known series that aren't collected in trades.
For example, Hitman is great, yet not very known by The mainstream. I'm also on the lookout for good miniseries or single issues or whatever is good. Thanks a ton!

The original Moon Knight and Fist of Khonshu were both pretty cool. Omega the Unknown was only like two years ago, but that also gets a big vote from me.

Slingers is the first thing that springs to mind. It's a shame Marvel has abused them so much in recent years.

I guess the same could be said for Generation X but that book was really only great for the first couple years anyway.

Only about half of PAD's Captain Marvel has been traded (the first arc of the first volume and all of the second).

I also really loved Thunderbolts until CW ruined it for me.

Ka-Zar the Savage. At least the Jones stuff through issue 25 or so and the back-up in issue 34.

Not so cultish perhaps, but less than mainstream...I dig Guardians of the Galaxy(though they definitely have their cult probs), Agents of Atlas, Iron Fist, Capt. Britain/MI13/Excalibur, X-Factor and the Defenders.

Here is a cool article about cult Marvel titles at Marvel.com:

http://marvel.com/news/comicstories.4076.tgif~colon~_cult_classics

My list would include:

Tomb of Dracula
Nova (original series)
Rom
Livewires by Adam Warren

Sighphi

Marvel Team-up Vol 3

Taiso

Some others I thought of:

She-Hulk (John Byrne's 'broken fourth wall' run)
Namor The Submariner (The Byrne title...he did such great work for Marvel)
Nova (first run)
Shang-Chi, Master Of Kung Fu
Nick Fury, Agent Of S.H.I.E.L.D. (Steranko)
Nick Fury And His Howling Commandos
Kilraven
Howard The Duck (Gerber-Colan, first run)

And lastly, I don't know if this qualifies as 'cult' but given how few people have actually exposed themselves to the original comics of this series, I'd consider it's exposure to modern audiences as 'cult' level:

THE INVADERS

Greg Anderson

Guggenheim and Chaykin's Blade.

Skywolf

Man-Thing
Tomb Of Dracula
Shogun Warriors
Godzilla
Ka-Zar The Savage
2001: A Space Odyssey (seriously...first appearance of Machine Man!)

and add
the original Omega (not so hot art, but really excellent Gerber story)
Howard the Duck 1-maybe 25 or so
definitely Master of Kung Fu, back when Moench wrote and Zeck drew
Alias (for grown-ups) 1-28
Black Panther by Don McGregor and Billy Graham
Red Sonja by Roy Thomas, Claire Noto and art by Frank Thorne!
Deathlok (the way-back old Astonishing Tales series) by Rich Buckler, art(?)
Groo the Wanderer
Devil Dinosaur
Defenders, way back when Steve Gerber wrote'm

whew.
hope you find some great stuff!

obviously Nova volume 1 but also Moon Knight and Cloak and Dagger (volume 1 for both) are quite entertaining and both rather unheralded (as well as Rom which is a personal favorite of mine).

I also enjoyed Super Villian Team-Up and the Human Fly.

Captain Marvel Vol. 1, issues #50-62, along with Marvel Soptlights #1-2, 4 and Miller's #8.

Also the Reed/Weeks mini, that was awesome, does that count as "cult" status or is that mainstream? It did very well despite low expectation from editorial. Well, just wondering what you're definining as "cult" status.

Thanks, cool thread idea, BTW

peace

For me, my favorite cult series certainly has to be "Marvel Knights" written by Chuck Dixon for the Marvel Knights brand, which came out about a decade ago. For years, there was always talk about Marvel putting out a title featuring a team composed of "street" level characters and it was interesting to see Daredevil, Black Widow, Dagger, the Punisher, Moon Knight, Luke Cage, and (the main reason I read the title) Shang-Chi together. Indeed, I became a big fan of Moon Knight b/c of Marvel Knights. However, I'll be the first to admit that while it started off strong, the series started to peter out towards the middle and end of its run.

Still, I'm glad to see that the majority of those characters (if not all of them) are currently enjoying exposure in some high level titles.

I really like the Toxin Mini put out several years ago. I think the Toxin character never really got a fair shake because everyone heard symbiote and just tuned out.

Sleepwalker from the 90's had it's moments.

Werewolf by Night is great too, if that counts as a cult series.
