Which issues would you consider the best team-up for Marvel and DC characters in these series runs...
Marvel Team-Up
Marvel Two-In-One
The Brave & The Bold
DC Comics Presents
I don't have 100% full runs of the above 4 series but do want to know I have the best ones. I also can't stand that Aunt May / Franklin issue of MTU...but need its ugly ass to complete a latter issue run.
I also consider the Giant-Size Spider-Man issues 1-5 to be just like Marvel Team-Ups...with #2 (Master of Kung Fu) being my favourite and #4 being a close second.
Jezebel, who's off to do some last minute shopping in the mall...whoosh....

MTU #67 - Team up with Tigra. MTU #79 - Team up with Red Sonja. Great cheescake art and Byrne at the top of his popularity, IMO. I loved these stories in that they fed the eye but also were interesting pairings with peripheral characters. Also, Kraven petting his"Kitty" while fireside chatting with Spidey was pretty cool.

Marvel Team-Up #79 (stop stealing my ideas before I have them, schwamp!)
Marvel Team-Up #119 Spider-Man and Gargoyle. And in general the work of Claremont/Byrne and of Dematteis on the title.

These 4 team books are series I want to work on in 2010...some I only need a few, some I need plenty.
I started by spotting another copy of MTU #1, then picked it up because I got it at a great price. Looks like a minimum VF to me, some might go a notch higher...either way, picked it up at 20%-25% of guide which is a good deal for a good book.

I've got some holes to fill in the first 30 issues...want to work on the teen issues next because some of them had great looking covers - Captain America, Ghost Rider, Hulk....

My run is complete up to the low 100's, which I figure can be picked up for practically nothing. Are you mostly shopping one place for your back issues? Where do you find the best values to be for back issues?

eBay remains my prime shopping place for back-issues. 'Best-value' is mostly determined by being in the right auction at the right time. If I didn't bid and win on that book I posted above, in the final 4 seconds, the other person would have won it for $15.99...which is practically a giveaway at that price. There are other times when bidding is very competitive and the same book in the same grade can go up considerably higher. I also won a NM/M DCCP #1 for under $3.00...that book guides for closer to $25 but again, it was being in the right auction at the right time - when everyone else is somewhere else
I've seen high-grade copies of MTU from about #51 up going for new issue prices - $3 average, sometimes less if you get a run of say 10-15 issues. But I still prefer these type of vintage books to new issues anyday...

In other instances, I sometimes attend local comic-book/anime conventions (made some good $ on the days I was selling) and fished this one out of someone else's longbox.

Set me back a whopping $2.50 for a NM copy...just my luck his stock was basically unsorted and had a flat rate per book. This issue is significant for featuring the first appearance of Wolfman and Perez's 'The New Teen Titans' in a preview feature.
I also got 2 runs of high-grade issues up to #25 for less than $1.50 each on average on eBay.

I've not made a habit of E-bay. Maybe because I'm stuck on an old school mentality that I feel I need to physically check the book myself to really trust that the condition is what it says it is. Also, the shipping can represent a significant percentage of the overall cost. Still, I have bought on E-bay, but usually lots where I tend to get the bunch for a buck per book or less.
...and so as not to derail the thread too much......MTU #53 was always a fave of mine, not for the Byrne 1st X-men, but for the fact that I actually like Woodgod as a tragic, Lenny from Mice and Men, kind of character. This series is chock full of good ones.

Definitely...my favourite John Byrne books are #65 and 66, the double-whammy with Captain Britain. Chris Claremont did the honours with the writing.

Yeah, I much prefer shops - I like having what I'm gonna pay for in my hands and bein' able to look it over before I buy it.
And I'm a tactile guy, and I like digging and rooting and finding surprises.
Plus, as a guy who actively collects team-up books and doesn't care much about condition, I've found probably a quarter of my collection in the fifty cent bins. So THAT's nice. :)

For sure. In the late 70's and early 80's ( Sigh..............the 80's....), my thing was to go to the L.A Sci Fi and Comic Book Convention that Bruce Shwartz was starting up. I felt like Trump if I went in there with 20 bucks, and spent most of my time with my head under the tables picking gems out of the quarter bins. There was huge quality reading value under there, and I even scored my X-men #94 for $2.00 that way. I'll always be a forager at heart. That was one of the best parts of the collecting experience for me.

I enjoy the 'seek and find' experience too...on one occasion I visited an old book store on impulse and while looking through its unsorted 'everything in a big mess' stack of comics, pulled out two VF copies of X-Men 69 and 85. The owner of the store didn't have anything priced and sold them for what new issue comics go for.
But I like the ebay experience too, since I mostly buy high-grade books and have access to over 50 dealers that I've previously dealt with and left positive feedback for...their incredible back-issue stashes open up many more opportunities.
It works out well, there are people who buy from me too and never know where the books came from

At some point, I will explore E-bay a bit more. There are advantages, I'm sure. Mostly, I'm just a stuck bastard that is a creature of habit as much as anything else.
...............maybe I'll start buying from you...........

Just got a pair of these in NM or so at a fraction of guide, love the colours and cover artwork of the 20c covers. Would have picked up a #12 with Captain America as well but it was sprayed with distributors ink in the corner which was rather distracting :frown:
#15. First Spider-Man and Ghost Rider meeting plus the origin and 1st appearance of The Orb

#16 First appearance of The Basilisk.

Marvel Two-In-One:

Favorite MTIO issue of all time, a double sized adventure that opens with the Thing hosting one of his famous poker games in the Baxter Building with the Avengers. An alert interupts the game letting our heroes know that there's trouble in the Negative Zone. What follows is a great story featuring the double threat of Blastaar and Annihilus.
Marvel Team Up:

Jam packed annual with more heroes than you can shake a stick at.
Spidey joins forces with Power Man, Iron Fist, Daredevil and Moon Knight to tackle the Purple Man, the villain with the coolest power ever, the ability to control anyone with the sound of his voice.
Sort of the Jesse Custer before Jesse Custer (with a grapish complexion, lol)
