How far did you have to walk to school?
Walk!
Luxury.
Our dad would come home everynight, break our legs and then force us to crawl to school the next morning across a field of broken bottles and sewage.

Not any more, but I only stopped about 3 1/2 years ago primarily for financial reasons. I was starting to turn away from the Big Two, though, and from all reports, I'm not missing much I'd enjoy.
Plus whats it like having been a comic fan for so long?
Ummmm, it's like being old.
Do you feel like youve seen it all by this point?
Yes and no. Being around that long did lead me to a certain disinterest in certain characters' books like Spider-Man, Superman, Batman, etc. After reading their books for 40+ years, there really wasn't a whole lot they had to say to me that hadn't already been said a million times. On the other hand, I did enjoy stuff like Ultimate Spider-Man, and I've been told All-Star Superman was very "roots" oriented, and I still liked the "BIG" characters in other characters' books...mostly for how they interacted with others, rather than being the whole show, as it were.

You had a shop as a kid ("LUXURY!")? I had to hang out at the grocery store.

No, I meant specialty store. New Orleans has had them since the 70s.
I bought my first books from a drug store, but that quickly proved to be a lousy way to get comics. Books would often stay on the rack for months before they were sold or replaced with new books. So, within about two months, I found one of the shops that existed in my area.
New Orleans has seemed to have more than its share of shops. Despite the depressed market, before Katrina, we were up to about 12. Now, we're at 7. They don't sell only comics, of course.

You were lucky to have a grocery store, I got my comics from a bum who lived on the sidewalk by my house. And they weren't Marvel or DC either. They were Bum Comics, about Bum-Man and they were drawn on the back of old grocery bags and burlap sacks.

Well, "raised" is overstating the case. I was more grazed than raised. Kept as a farm animal; fed, housed and left pretty much on my own. My friends and I raised each other in the absence of a lot of parental involvement.
