What are the Coolest and worst team names?

Coolest team names:
Avengers
Mighty Avengers
Winter Guard
Young Avengers
Guardians of the Galaxy
Power Pack
Thunderbolts

Worst team names:
X-Men
People's Protectorate
Big Hero 6
Schutz Heiligruppe
New Warriors
Warlock's Infinity Watch
Supreme Soviets
Wrecking Crew
Brotherhood of the Evil Mutants

X-Men had become too generic a title. Is the X the name of the mutant gene?

People's Protectorate sounds kind of too socialist, too formal, too uninspiring and didn't sound right for a Post-Soviet team. Maybe "People's Guard" sounds better. But I liked Winter Guard much better.

What kind of Big Hero 6 is it? What if the team will have more than 6 members? Besides I didn't like the name much.

Schutz Heiligruppe-- I don't know what the hell it means in German but it sounds like an awful and dull name.

New Warriors-- the label sounds so 90's. It is what that a rock n roll music band would probably use. The New Warriors were new but they are hardly warriors.

Brotherhood of the Evil Mutants sounds sexist, despite that some of the members were women, including Scarlet Witch and Mystique. Well, wasn't there recently a Sisterhood of Evil Mutants already?

Brotherhood of evil is a pretty bad name. I liked Wrecking Crew though! Young Avengers-not so good.

The Defenders was the best name, imo

I think X-Men is a good team name. I have been hearing the name since I was like, 5, though.

Thunderbolts is one of my favorite team names. I like how Runaways sounds too, even if the team hardly ever uses that name.

I never liked how Alpha Flight or West Coast Avengers sounded. Fantastic Four is kind of... cheesy, but it gets the job done.

Worst :

-X-men : what is it ? A porn actors union ? (it is ? damn you Emma Frost !!)

-Fantastic four : i like to read it when i can, ok, but what a lame name really.

-X-Statix : statix ?

-New/Mighty/Dark/Young/InsertRandomName Avengers : a bit a creativity never hurts

Anyway, Winter Guard, that's a cool name alright.

I never liked Doom Patrol as a team name but I think The Legion of Doom was a great team name.

Guardians of the Galaxy for the win. I mean, I find the title mid-level okayish to read, but that name is pure comic book. I could absolutely see someone in a movie showing their geek credentials by dropping that name into a conversation, and newbies must surely know on some level - by the name alone - that this is a book that stars a walking tree, a talking communist space-dog with psychic powers who speaks in broken English, and a raccoon who loves guns and high explosives.

Worst has to be Loners. Apart from being an oxymoronic title, every member has come from other superhero teams. What it mean?

I'm on the fence about the name New Warriors - before reading it, I'd always assumed the title was about a super-powered streetgang of juvenile delinquents having ham-fisted rumbles on the streets of NYC and it made sense in that regard. As a name for space/time-hopping superheroes not so much.

Cool:
Alpha Flight
Winter Guard

Hate:
(fill in the blank) Avengers
X-Terminators

I've always thought the Avengers sounded really cool. It may not be what they actually do, per se, but I mean...if you were part of something called The Avengers, that would be badass. It got kinda wonky when adjectives started being thrown in there, but I suppose if you could just pass it off as a cool band name. That would get the girls.

As for worst, what the hell is up with New Mutants? I've always hated that name for an X-team. I prefer my mutants to have X in the title, and New Mutants isn't a team name, its what they are. Its so bland and boring.

The comic was Warlock and the Infinity Watch, the team name was just Infinity Watch.

I've always loved the name Avengers. It's not too "cartoony."

As far as least favorite... I don't like Masters of Evil or Brotherhood of evil. Anything with evil in it just sounds kind of silly. I don't think villains in general go around labelling themselves evil, even if they obviously are.

Worst
Avengers (especially "Mighty" and "Young")
Winter Guard
Guardians of the Galaxy
Power Pack
People's Proctectorate
Big Hero 6
"Brotherhood of Evil Mutants" sounds horrible - without the "Evil" part, it sounds cool to me

Best
X-Men
Runaways
MI: 13
Loners
a few others that don't come to mind

I know all opinions are subjective, but the way you've mixed-up 'best' and 'worst' borders on hilarious. God bless you and all who sail upon you.

Magneto included the word 'Evil' as part of the team name out of ideological petulance because mutants would be seen as evil in any coming war between humans and mutantkind.

Is 'Runaways' the name of the actual team? I know they were referred to as such in SWORD and one of the YA crossovers, but I can't recall if it was ever confirmed in their own title - though I suppose if it's confirmed elsewhere it counts as canon.

The Wrecking Crew is an awesome name.

The worst that I can think of? Force Works. Ugh.

How anyone can think X-Men or Avengers are bad names is beyond me.

Force Works and X-Statix are my votes.

Nico referred to the group as "The Runaways" during Whedon's Run, and in the Secret Invasion Mini Wiccan(or Speed) refers to the group as "The Runaways".

Coolest:
X-Men

Avengers
Power Pack

I know all opinions are subjective.

Your right about that, at least. It was my opinion, and I still stick to it. The names I listed as "worst" sound cheesy in. my. opinion.

They themselves have never said the name is their title ('cept for this one bit where Nico said "Runaways. Run, away!" during Whedon's run). And like Personamanx mentioned, Wiccan once referred to them as "Runaways." Although most of the MU still calls them "the Pride's kids." I like it, anyways. Although thanks for reminding me about SWORD ...

Don't like
Avengers (especially "Mighty" and "Young")
Winter Guard
Guardians of the Galaxy
Power Pack
People's Proctectorate
Big Hero 6
Brotherhood of Evil Mutants (don't like the "evil" part, no matter what reason given)

Like
X-Men
X-Force
Runaways
MI: 13
Loners
SWORD (if that counts as a team)
SHIELD (if that counts as a team)
a few others that don't come to mind

Hmmm, I can't really say that there are any team names that I hate. By themselves, all of them have a ring to them that I like. Furthermore, when I say the name in a particular tone and manner, the name sounds more appealing. For instance, in my mind, I don't say "Guardians of the Galaxy" in a very epic and space opera-esque tone. Rather, for me, I say it in a very laid back, almost surfer tone. Coming from the NY/NJ area, I don't say The Wrecking Crew. Rather, I always say "Da Wrecking Crew," since the team seems very blue collar and street.

Good:
Guardians of the Galaxy
Thunderbolts
X-men
Runaways
Avengers
The Wrecking Crew
X-factor
X-force

Bad:
Mighty Avengers
Young Avengers
Power Pack (seriously, how come people can like it? Sounds as stupid as it gets)
New Mutants
Anything with Evil on it
Force Works
Big Hero 6
Winter Guard
Loners (probably the dumbest of them all)
X-Statix

Just as - in my opinion - I found it funny you think Loners - an oxymoron in and of itself - is a good name for a superhero team composed of superheroes drawn from other teams, yet Avengers is 'cheesey'.

'Ultimates' I could understand...

The X-Men is probably the best name. Especially the way the logo is drawn on the cover. I first saw the name on an old cover with the original team and Xavier in the background controling them. And it was so awesome, they were like a tv show from the 60s, it sounds like "These are Xavier's Men" in a way. Or since X is unknown, it comes off as they were mysterious special people.

Avengers is great too(even if they don't Avenge anything).

I can't get used to "Winter Guard". I prefer the three Ss: Soviet Super Soldiers.

Frank

I will say this Runaways is a good book but the title doesn't make you want to buy the book.

It doesn't sound much kickass.

Best: Avengers, X-Men, Fantastic Four, Defenders, Alpha Flight, Invaders

Good (well, and bad...), FORCE WORKS got mentioned a few times.   :evilangry:

But that's also why I remember it so well. It even just sounds ugly. So ugly in fact I kinda like it because it stands out like a sore thumb. Even some of it's roster were gaudy folk.

Yeah, I'll admit I want an all-new one-shot.

Agreed. The Warriors need something else besides New in front of their name...or just a name change period.

New Mutants is/was/will always be a stupid and lazy name. (Prof. X you are a lazy sonofa@#$$, heh heh)

Some more bad names: Legion of Substitute heroes, Blood Pack.

Best:

HYDRA
Advanced Idea Mechanics
Avengers
Defenders
Agents of Atlas
Invaders
Exiles

Worst:

Power Pack
Squadron Supreme
Champions
Inhumans
Lady Liberators
Skrull Kill Crew
Ultimates
All "branch" organizations such as West Coast, Great Lakes, etc.

This doesn't reflect whether or not I actually like the team. For example, I really enjoy the Ultimates but could care less about Exiles. Some of the organizations aren't really teams but still great names.

One of the Young Avengers says "Avengers Assemble!"

And then one of the Runaways yells "Runaways... Run Away!"

I think I remember reading something like this and soda coming out of my knows all over the comic book...

Best:

Skrull Kill Crew (just sounds incredibly baddass)
Hydra (the whole concept of killing one head and two more regrowing is awesome for a terrorist organization)
X-Factor (Just fits the offbeat nature of the book perfectly and looks good on a cover with the X and F)
Guardians of the Galaxy(Grandiose sci-fi goodness)
Avengers (the book should be more about justified vengeance than whatever the hell its supposed to be now)

Worst:

X-Men (What is this... a transvestite comic book?)

I love how the mutie lovers are complaining about all of the avenger titles(mighty, dark, west coast, great lakes) but dont say crap about all of the x-men knockoffs(uncanny, new, dark, astonishing)...

I'd just like to point out, since no one has, that there is a difference between team names and book titles. The X-Men are the X-Men. Period. All of those variants (Astonishing, Uncanny, New, etc.) are just for the sake of distinguishing the books in publication. Likewise the "New" in all teams other than the New Mutants and New Warriors, and all of the "Dark" titles as well. If you haven't figured this out by this point, you have serious reading comprehension issues.
