View Full Version : This Week's DC Nation - Giffen on Legion?

This Week's DC Nation mostly consists of Dan Didio talking about how hectic the week before Thanksgiving was, and giving some hints about what they were talking about.
Most of it is stuff that has already been announced, but one thing that struck me was this line....
"Listening to Keith Giffen make time for the FUTURE by revisiting THE PAST"
Sounds like a way of saying that Giffen is returning to his past to perhaps co-write the Legion with Levitz?

When Paul Levitz did his DC nation column he mentioned Giffin as well, albeit in a 'still cursing me for something I did way back when!' kind of way, so I could see it.

And Giffen has gone on record saying he wants another crack at the team, specifically with Paul Levitz, at least a couple of times now.
This would basically be my dream combination. Any atrophy of Levitz's skills with dialog or pacing would be offset by Giffen's obvious command of both, both of them are serious forward thinkers in terms of sci-fi, both are unafraid of change and growth, and Levitz keenly understands the need for a 'heart' in his books, something that Giffen often lacks.

I thought I was excited about the Legion before I heard this.
I was wrong.

Giffen and Levitz back on the Legion.
Sold !
The only better news from DC would be to put Wolfman and Perez back on Titans.

Have they announced who's going to illustrate this yet?
Maybe they have but for whatever reason I don't recall them doing so.

I wouldn't mind seeing Clayton Henry stick around, but if it's true that Giffen is rejoining Levitz I could see them going with a higher profile artist...

Well...Giffen, presumably.

I don't think Giffen will be doing the actual art for the series, no. Perhaps layouts, since he's so good at them, but his style can be a little polarizing. Perhaps he'll be the permanent artist on the backup, though?
Anyway, I'm hoping for a full on partnership. Giffen doesn't really need help with dialog anymore...it's one of his greatest strengths, actually.

If Giffen wasn't doing the art, then I wouldn't really see the point of announcing Levitz & Giffen back together as that was a major part of their original run.

Oh man...the raw joy. I couldn't be more filled with late teen happiness if I were to suddenly lose 25 pounds, regain all my acne, get my first car back (a '69 Chevy Impala that was always broke down) and regain my virginity.
OK, I'll pass on that latter three. But gimme my Levitz/Giffen Legion! (And the 25 pound loss would be nice too....).

Well...Giffen, presumably.
I hope not.
I really like Giffen as a writer but his current art style is really not my bag. I think if he did layouts/co-wrote the book then that would be much more desirable.

Giffen will co-plot and do breakdowns is my guess.
Giffen pencils and a Kirby-ish inker could really look great.

Giffen? Yes please!
I might even break my vow and buy a monthly book.
Nah.
But I'll be a bit more eager as I wait for the trade.

I would love to see both back on Legion in some form. And hopefully we do actually get Games this year so that takes care of Wolfman and Perez.

I think both are good on their own but put them together and it's magic.

Giffen, prime perpetrator of the endless carnage of "Five Years Later," diluting the pleasure of seeing Levitz return? Ye gads, that's not any kind of a Christmas present for this Legion fan.
Nor for many others who are trying to forget that era, now mercifully excised from continuity. (Or at least from its being among the top three Legions still existing.)
Anyway, if Giffen is co-plotter and co-dialoguer, Levitz could probably keep his excesses in check. But if Giffen's pudgy faces are used for the art ... I think I'd give up hope for ever enjoying this. {sigh}
