View Full Version : Is Emma Frost partly to blame for the demise of Iceman's reputation?

A vaguely serious thread for a change (not), the thought occured to me in the Iceman appreciation thread by a newly appreciating fan of the character - that it was his lasting impression that Emma Frost's intervention in taking over Iceman's body is in part responsible for the lack of self-confidence stigma he's had in regards to the broad usage of his powers in the x-books.

They are both strong characters, equally with unique powersets on their own. However, I wondered whether or not the writer or Marvel had any indication on the long-lasting effect it would have on the history of the character, and how it would forever remain as one of the most concrete and identifiable events associated with the character.

Of course being a fan myself I do find it disturbing. And sure, you can say this comes off a bit as a rant and I should leave well enough alone, since its in history books now. But who cares... I was bored, and thought I'd get your opinion on whether or not you thought it was an event that should or should not have taken place in Uncanny #311 - #314. And whether or not you think it's had any lasting effect or changed your view of either character...

It'd be awesome if his member chipped off whilst in ice mode. And he lost it forever.

Personally, I blame ProfeZZor X for ruining Iceman's reputation, I thought he was OK until I discovered CBR

He was my favourite until all I could think about was his omega potential and how no writers every write him using his powers to the maximum potential.

NO it would not be awesome if iceman to lose his member.
if a man or woman were to lose there sexualality they would not care about anything.
iceman would not be a xmen,he would not want to use his power, he would care he or anyone died, h would not try t get out of bed in the morning.

I think we're advanced enough to have an asexual superhero. Besides x-23.

Iceman lost his reputation long before Emma Frost, let's be real.

What reputation?

Iceman should be grateful he was briefly associated with the beautiful mind of Ms Frost.

No Emma didnt do anything to him. Blame it on the writers. Outside of Lobdell and Carey, no writer seems to really care about Bobby. He was alot more competent under them but under the rest, he's relegated to simply being the immature jokester who didnt grow up. Cant blame that on Emma, especially since he's had little to do with her since she was back in Gen X

Well, I think there's only so much a writer can do with a character whose only power is freezing things. Besides, he very clueless, too.

Uncanny X-Men #305 (I am pretty sure that was the issue) where Bobby, Rogue, and Bishop attacked some biological constructs. However, Bobby's plan involved using his (at the time) Girlfriend as bait.

So not terribly smart.

His only power isnt simply freezing things and thats the misconception you and other writers seem to have. He's capable of some cool stuff which we have seen in the past. Besides the powers dont make the character bc there are alot of characters with boring powers and alot more generic abilties and they are great characters who get a decent amount of attention

Nobody wants to draw Iceman anymore because of Emma's fugly diamond form. It's too much blank space on the page.

Yet another Iceman thread turns into a discussion about his powers. This is what has ruined his character. He is always discussed like some top-trump trading card.
