Marvel has announced through IGN a new Iron Man ongoing called Iron Man: Legacy, by Fred Van Lente and Steve Kurth, which will feature standalone story arcs that are set at varying points in Iron Man's career.

Here's a link: http://comics.ign.com/articles/105/1053103p1.html

and the cover:

As for my two cents:

I'm not all that interested in another Iron Man ongoing or it's premise(especially when I'm not even reading the first ongoing, and one of my favorites, War Machine, just got cancelled). However, I really enjoy Van Lente's work (both at Marvel and independently) and Steve Kurth's art on Ultimate Armor Wars has been amazing (though since that book has been delayed a lot I don't see how they expect this to ship on time).

This is one of the rare instances where a creative team can get me to buy a book I have no interest in. Can't wait!

Hopefully this is Van Lente in his Marvel Adventures mindset as opposed to something more serious in line with regular MU books.

Pretty cool, but this makes me think we wont have Tony as Iron Man for a while now. This reminds me of Batman Confidential.

Why? Batman Confidential was around before we didn't have Bruce as Batman.

Sounds interesting but I'm not sure if I'd buy it just yet.

i'd only be interested if Scott Lang appears in one of these flashback stories.

They should have called it Iron Man: First Armor....... get it?

Anyway, they did the same thing back when Iron Man 1 came out, they had 2 IM on-goings.

I'd buy that issue in a second.

Oh look, an Iron Man book I can read AND get excited for! Heck yeah!

Please don't be $3.99, please, please, please...

Love the new armor that Steve Kurth designed! It looks like a mix of the movie armor, and his modern extremis one, man Kurth is great at drawing Ironman, and his armors.

I read the article, and it seems pretty good. He said that Crimson Dynamo, Titanium Man, and the Melter are going to be in his first arc, which I'm going to have to check out just for them. I can't wait to see how Kurth designed their armors! I also wonder if this is our first glimpse of the new Iron Man design?

Fred Van Lente is a rising voice at Marvel. A good voice.

I am surprised they are doing a "Legacy" book for Iron Man. I will keep an eye on it.

I don't think Tony is going anywhere. This is purely a book to capitalize off the upcoming movie. I like the creative team, I'll check it out.
We'll see if the market can handle 2 solo books. IIM only sells around 50K. Maybe the first few issues of IML will do OK, but I can see this settling in low 30s/high 20s.

I`ll try it for the art and Iron Man, not holding huge hopes for writing.

I really like Van Lente's writing and Iron Man himself so I'll pick this up for at least the first arc. Seems like Marvel's doing a lot of history exploring between this and Shield.

The creative team is good, but I don't like the premise. This seems like just another attempt at capitalizing from the movie.

I agree.
Marvel is pumping out several Iron Man minis just in time for the 2nd movie.

I'll pick it up. I'm not a huge Iron Man fan, but I'll try anything with FVL's name attached to it.

As I mentioned in the other thread, if you are fans of Russia's superheroes -- you ought to pick this up!

From the article:
"The U.S. can't intervene without ticking off Russia and China, so Iron Man decides to fly in there and put an end to the local Transian Iron Men, who have modeled themselves after the ancient Slavic gods of yore, inadvertently setting off an international firestorm that brings Russia's Titanium Man and Crimson Dynamo into the conflict, as well as China's Radioactive Man."

I hope Radioactive Man gets a kick in the potinsky courtesy of Titanium Man.

I hope someone decides to actually write R-Man in-character, and maybe even reference the fact that he pretty much reformed his ways with the Thunderbolts.

I hope someone decides to actually write R-Man in-character, and maybe even reference the fact that he pretty much reformed his ways with the Thunderbolts.

But the series consists of "epic arcs set across multiple periods of Iron Man's history," so it's possible that this arc takes place prior to R-Man's reformation.

Tony learns his Iron Man technology is being used to lethal effect in a vicious civil war in the Balkan republic of Transia," he reveals. "The U.S. can't intervene without ticking off Russia and China, so Iron Man decides to fly in there and put an end to the local Transian Iron Men, who have modeled themselves after the ancient Slavic gods of yore, inadvertently setting off an international firestorm that brings Russia's Titanium Man and Crimson Dynamo into the conflict, as well as China's Radioactive Man.

Awesome!! Knowing Fred's style, we'll probably see some reference to Perun and Svarog.

"And then there's that mysterious player behind the scenes, a classic villain from Michelinie and Layton's run."

This can only mean one thing . . . the much-anticipated return of Stratosfire!!

Seriously, though, with FVL writing I'd like to see either Hercules, Athena, or Kid Zeus team-up with Iron Man against Mordecai Midas (http://www.marvunapp.com/Appendix/midasm.htm)!

When did Pyro go all Brandon Teena on us?

I thought Iron Man was the worst comic in Marvel's silver age. I read those issues. it wasn't nearly as classic as Fantastic Four or Spider-Man. and although Michelinie and Layton had a good run, it's still not among the very best that Marvel has ever had. Iron Man didn't reach his potential as a character until only a few years ago. and let's not forget that he has the worst villains... ever!! that's part of the reason Iron Man was sorta floundering until Civil War

so I welcome this reimagining of Iron Man's history! maybe now it will be interesting

Because he's infinitely better as a girl.

I love Iron Man, but I'm not incredibly familiar with his silver age stuff. I'm not sure how much I like the "tone" of that era. I'll look into this because it's Iron Man, but I'm not pumped up about it.

I love both of these creators, and couldn't be more happy at the fact that they're working together, but on a book involving Iron Man's past? Not really into that premise. Put them on a new War Machine book or something!

i'm on it for 2 reasons:

1) Iron Man (loving his past, the micheline-layton period)

2) loving van lente style

Just the reverse here for my dollar. To the OP's point of bringing in a Marvel Adventures feel I really am not looking forward to it. It also concerns me as this is pushing itself into continuity or rather pseudo-continuity. The recent blah Iron Man: Iron Protocols, not by Van Lente btw, gives me an idea of what is up with this series.

It is a pass.
