Did Michael Turner think Supergirl came from middle earth? And I'm sorry, but I never get tired of Gary Frank doing the Christopher Reeve thing. I just don't.

I don't like the look on his face in that cover though. He looks like a mouse or a rodent of some kind with the way he's smiling. That said, generally I love Frank as well.

So it's as bad as he does torsos? Turner remains overrated, even beyond the grave. I'm surprised that DC decided to stoop to nostalgia for him again, considering that they have a superior regular penciller on the series now with Igle.

Same here. Ever since Superman left for New Krypton I haven't bought a single issue of the Superman title. I got the first 2 issues of Adventure and even though I enjoyed it, I dropped it because of a money saver. Supergirl doesn't do it for me.

As for the SO issue, is that an alternate coverwith Lois? Gary Frank is heavily turning into my favorite artist. His work is simply beautiful and just gets Superman and company through and through.

They're using Turner since he designed this version of Kara way back in Superman/Batman.

Superman #697 looks amazing. I thought I could not enjoy Robinson's work on this title more these last few issues, but this is going to take the cake.

I'm also loving the Secret Origin #5 cover. Metallo looks awesome in that picture.

Also, even though Gary Frank is easily my favorite artist, I am going to have to echo the sentiment about Clark having serious chipmunk face on that cover to #3.

I hated Coming of Atlas, but Robinson on WONK and Supeman w/ Mon-El have been spectacular, and I'll take it over Geoff's Donnerman any day. Love Geoff, but it's true..lol.

Wrong; they're evoking Turner's ghost because his name has more marquee value than Igle or Middleton. Don't kid yourself, since the costume has already been tweaked a few times since, and Turner didn't write her character one bit.

Yes, Turner sells. But it's also a tribute to his involvement in the genesis of the character. And yes, he didn't write the character. But he did take part in her re-introduction to the DCU.

Yikes, Metallo's costume is awful. Not everything from the 70s needs to be brought back.

And Parasite looks completely unmenacing.

Agreed. That's the current costume, not the old costume. He really didn't had much of a costume in the old times, he was kinda like a Terminator with a human brain and kryptonite heart.

Parasite is also purple. Its a minor detail, but his first post-crisis appearance had his skin green. He looks like some fat guy in a bad costume. I hope they don't retcon his origin and status of being originaly a Firestorm foe.

Talking about Parasite... where the hell is Alexandra? I would like to see Rudy and Alexandra meeting eachother. I wonder, what would happen? Mutual understand, compreheension and friendship? Rudy's first real relationship? Rivalry? Alliance?

Having Supergirl be an elf would not be far removed from a lot of the stuff that has happened to her continuity.
And I also never tore of the Reeve thing. Great cover.

It looks to be an updated version of this old costume:

Agreed. That's the current costume, not the old costume. He really didn't had much of a costume in the old times, he was kinda like a Terminator with a human brain and kryptonite heart.

They're combining Roger and John Corben together. That's why he's wearing the green and orange armor again. We're seeing why he wore it in the first place, before abandoning it for several years and then putting it on again. Take note that he wasn't wearing it in "Last Son", "Up, Up & Away", "The Search For Kryptonite" and "Salvation Run". So those stories, along with the others during the 90's and this last decade are still there. John's reintroduction was based on the Terminator, including his skin. So Johns has combined the two different interpetations.

Parasite is also purple. Its a minor detail, but his first post-crisis appearance had his skin green. He looks like some fat guy in a bad costume. I hope they don't retcon his origin and status of being originaly a Firestorm foe.

Was Firestorm's series going in the late 80's? I know that Rudy was in Starman, when he was green and then he was changed to purple when he moved over to the Superman books. I think they're just sticking with purple since that's how he's been seen for the most part.

Talking about Parasite... where the hell is Alexandra? I would like to see Rudy and Alexandra meeting eachother. I wonder, what would happen? Mutual understand, compreheension and friendship? Rudy's first real relationship? Rivalry? Alliance?

Probably dead or retconned out.

Yeah, I understand the reasoning behind the homage, but Superman just looks kind of creepy there. I really don't like it actually, it's the one jarring element of all of his Superman work, and it's the only criticism I have of Secret Origin. Chris Reeve was a good looking guy, but it just doesn't translate well onto paper, at least the way Gary's doing it. I miss Superman having an upper lip.

Yeah I agree with his teeth it looks a bit...weird.

As for Metallo, it actually looks good in the other Superman books.

They'd have to retcon the Firestorm stuff; not take it out, it just can't be his 1st appearance. The colour thing doesn't really matter much though, he already went back to green once in a JLA special; the 1st time we saw him after his supposed death in an issue of Superman. Now instead of showing up in Firestorm green and going green-purple-green-purple, he showed up here 1st and went purple-green-purple-green-purple.

Jesus Christ, that old Metallo costume is god-effing-awful.

Who the hell looks at that and thinks, "THAT'S what the character's been missing!"
