View Full Version : Aerosmith Looking for a New Lead Singer?
From the Associated Press:
New York, NY -- Joe Perry has posted a tweet looking for a new lead singer for Aerosmith. Perry writes that the band isn't splitting up, but they just don't know if Steven Tyler is still their lead singer. Perry told a radio station in Concord, New Hampsire (WKXL) that he hasn't heard from Tyler since he hurt himself falling off a stage last August. Tyler's been quoted as saying he's thinking of going solo.
I'm not the biggest Aerosmith fan, but I can't see them being a success without Steven Tyler. The two are just too intertwined.
And, way to go, AP, on spelling "Hampshire" wrong.

Aerosmith with either Perry or Tyler is not Aerosmith.
They're all old and rich. If Tyler's done, I say the band should be too.

They should have been done twenty years ago, after the Pump album and tour. They haven't released anything worth a damn since then.
They're well past their use-by date. Time to pull the plug.

Agreed. I'm not particularly eager to see Aerosmith to go down the path of Van Halen.

I don't really like Aerosmith but they really can't replace Tyler.

I wonder how many of the whippersnappers these days are more familiar with Liv Tyler than her father? I was surprised to hear they're still around, but this has been corrected.

Looks like Tyler and Perry kissed and made up. Tyler joined Perry's solo act, The Joe Perry Project, on stage last night to tell fans he wasn't leaving the band.
I smell a set up.

Ahhh I think its likely bad nerves and frustration over the last tour. I read in the newspaper , Tyler wasn't the only one hurt during it. And that he felt like it was some kinda battle to get thru it.
Good to hear Tyler and Perry are being good to each other again.

Me, too.
Apparently Perry wants to get back to the 70s sound Aerosmith had, and Steve wants to stay pop rock, like Jaded.
For what it's worth, I side with Joe on this one, though I absolutely wouldn't mind it if they had albums with both kinds of songs.

Where do you draw the line on "poppy"?

Where do you draw the line on "poppy"?Almost anything that came after Pump. And anything with a cheesy sexual pun in the title.
...So do you or do you not like "Love in an Elevator?"
I liked Permanent Vacation quite a bit, "Angel" notwithstanding. Hence my username.

Sorta like the vinyl days where a band sometimes had one good side to the album and junk on the B side.
It's amazing how many albums I have that are trashed on one side and pristine on the other.

Totally agree here.
Pump was indeed their last decent album.
For me, it's all about their stuff from the 70s, tho.

They pretty much lost their bluesiness and funkiness after Draw The Line. I could almost say fuck everything after that, but Pump is entertaining.

I'm firmly in the camp of loving the first five albums and pretty much blowing everything else off. Although if nothing else, I respect "Pump" for the video of "Janie's Got A Gun". Whoever the woman is that played Janie in that video made this 12 year old guy realize that girls were pretty nice after all.

to me there's not one AEROSMITH record that's really bad; i love the band and have been a fan for years.
the pop stuff is ok but i really like some nuggets that you can find in some of the later cds that were never released as a single.
i saw them live twice and both times they were great!
i go for more of their live records because it really brings out the power and soul of the band, but then again i'm a sucker for live stuff anyways!
anyone saying that AEROSMITH should give up and call it a day just has to look at KISS and see that any band from that time can still go out and play and AEROSMITH still has the same members! imo AEROSMITH trumps KISS when it comes to the newer cds that i like of the two bands.

But...Gene Simmons doesn't have enough money yet!
Apparently.
KISS's new CD is actually really good.
And there's more to the story. Apparently Tyler is now officially "taking time off" from Aerosmith, but will return.
Joe Perry: “As it stands, Steven wants to take a couple years off and do some of whatever he wants to do and the rest of the band wants to keep working… The band is a really well-oiled machine and we’re going to work one way or another and I don’t know what form that’s going to take.”

I hope he doesn't take too long off, or they'll all be in retirement homes.

This kind of sucks, how you gonna have Aerosmith without Tyler? he's what made the band.

Maybe we won't have Aerosmith at all?
Which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Who says every band has to go on forever?

To me, Aerosmith stopped release songs I enjoy a long time ago; however, they're still a rock music institution and shouldn't be doing anything with their line-up. They should take a break, do all their side projects for a bit, take the time to release what they love about Aerosmith, and launch a successful comeback tour.
It's easy for me to say, but like it's been said: they're not Aerosmith without the Aerosmith line-up.
